As some of you know, I'm in a Police tribute. I've done two in the past 8 or so years but my current one has an amazing Copeland. There is one youtube video of us with me dropping an absolute howler but I'll try and find it
I can't paste the link in. I used to be able to.
aha done it now, in a slightly later post

I would love to be in a Police tribute but my singing is appalling! Mind you, some might say so is my bass playing! 😝 -

The covers band I'm in started doing just general covers from different decades but ended up doing just 80s as we were getting asked for more songs from that decade and that's what seemed to go down best with audiences.
We do all the usual suspects (Duran, Spandau, The Police) and throw in a few re-arranged versions of some cheesier songs or synth dominated songs as we don't have a keyboard player.
Strangely though, bearing in mind what's been said earlier in this thread, there doesn't seem to be as many other around here doing mainly 80s, they all seem to be either indie/Brit-pop or rock cover bands. -

Millions of record sales say otherwise.

John Taylor, Bernard Edwards Mick Karn and Sting at the beginning and then Stuart Zender pretty much re-ignited my enthusiasm when I was thinking about giving up.

Downloaded a copy of Japan's Quiet Life album this week ... I hadn't listened to it for years, now i can't stop listening to it ... the bass playing is sublime!
-
He's underrated as a drummer IMHO.
-
1. My Dad was a drummer so I wanted to be one but when he stopped playing he sold his kit. Bass seemed the next best thing rhythmically.
2. Everybody I knew was playing guitar and I wanted to be different.
3. I heard Friends of Mine by Duran and it blew me away - it's not particularly busy or complicated but it has such great rhythm and was different to pretty much anything else I'd heard. Plus John Taylor seemed to be getting all the girls! -
Sting
John Taylor
Mani
Pino
Mark King
Flea
Les Claypool
Aston Barrett
Mick Karn
Bernard Edwards -
I was supposed to be going to the Manchester gig but the tickets were nicked out of my pocket while we're waiting to go in ... To say I was gutted is a massive understatement
