From the Warwick site...

  2. **RE-LISTED**

    Dear all

I was hoping to be able to keep this bass but unfortunately I need some more money for my new web project. So...

Details are below. I've had this bass for a couple of years. I bought it from Alex at the Bass Gallery. Since buying it I have replaced all the black hardware for lovely new gold hardware. I also had it defretted and lines put in by the boys in the workshop at the Gallery.

I paid £1,200 for it and I've spent a few hundred on it so I would be happy getting £1,200. No trade I'm afraid unless it's an early Vigier Arpege ;)

The original custom order can be seen below and it would have cost over £5,500 new.

It has blue front LED's fitted by Martin Sims.

Apologies for the poor pictures but hopefully you get the idea

It's in pretty good nick with a few dings on the body but plays perfectly!

The bass is located in London. You're welcome to try before you buy.

    Many thanks

    moo

  3. Ah of course, that'll teach me to look things up whilst I should be working. I'll see if Patrice Vigier can shed any light on the exact date, then. I've never had a metal laminate model, I bet they have a sound all of their own.

Funnily enough I have seen an Arpege at CrackConverters before, though I think it was snapped up quickly. You struck gold, there - and what an excellent price. Enjoy it and remember, French = best!

    hahaha crapconverters!!!

I've always raved about my old blue one and I think certain people were getting a bit bored of hearing it. However, having played this one now, they are totally hooked!

<qoute> "the sounds are f***ing amazing!"

    Superb pieces of engineering excellence!

    Well done Le French

Whatever info you can find out will be greatly appreciated, thank you Ped!

  4. Woah that's stunning. Where did you find it? It was made on March 15th, 1986. The serial # database is here http://78.41.237.59/...dias/pdf/12.pdf So what can you tell us about the neck on the bass, is it carbon or the earlier brass laminate type? I bet you'll be very happy with that - the second best bass I have ever played is Dr. Bass' blueburst Arpege! On the whole Vigier front I'm working with a kind BC member to have my 'up' and 'down' Vbass patch buttons installed neatly onto the front of my bass, watch this space! Yeah I think Arpege sounds cooler than Passion, I guess it also has a slightly more bass related meaning, too.

Thanks Ped. You'll never guess where I got it!!! I search regularly for early Aprege basses as they're rarer than rocking horse poo and then I found this one on the CashConverters website! :o

I paid <drum roll> £600. It's in amazingly good condition. It was a fretless so I gave it to Alex at the Gallery and they did a stunning job of fretting it and cleaning up the electronics. It sounds and plays amazing!

I think this bass is not 1986 as you've said (and as I also initially thought) because it is a pre graphite Series 1. These basses aren't listed on the Vigier site. Someone said they thought it was 1980. If it's the sixth one made then it would be year one (maybe year 2... '81)! I'm more than happy to be proven wrong though ;)

I'm a very very happy boy! Now I just need to get my old blue one back from Dr. Bass!

Sorry almost forgot, it has the metal laminate in the neck. Can't put it down, it's puuuurdy!

  5. Hello hello (Ped particularly)

I've just managed to get myself an old Arpege. I had one many many years ago and now Dr. Bass won't give it back (grrrrrrrrr)

Anyway, thanks to your info posted on this thread I've discovered that my bass is a Series 1 and very old. It's s/n #006. Any idea when that might have been made. It's an absolute stunner so I'm chuffed to bits.

  6. Bought a Status Series II from him

Pleasure doing business with people like Chris.

We agreed a price, money was transferred, bass was packaged properly and shipped. Arrived shortly afterwards and I'm a very happy man!

    Thank you Chris!

  7.
I've been in several times recently. As mentioned on one of my earlier posts, the layout of the shop is now MUCH better and easier to get around, while also being lighter and somehow friendlier.

The staff are polite and leave you alone until you ask.

In truth, if it wasn't for the ... erm ... history of that shop, no one would think there was anything uusual about The Bass Cellar.
Right now, as far as I'm concerned, the only place to buy a bass is The Bass Gallery! Their basses are top and the guys are a pleasure to deal with!

The Bass Cellar is a dump designed for tourists.

The Bass Centre WAS the best place in the world. Great people and great basses. I found the last few times I went there I was treated like sh*t and even told them to f*** off at one point! I was so sad because when I first fell in love with basses I used to make the trip up to London and to Wapping and spend hours there, trying stuff and chatting to the guys!

Ho hum, we can all thank the Internet for their demise!

I'm sure there are other great dealers out there who actually 'give a poop' but for me, Alex at the Bass Gallery is everything I need!

Someone earlier in the thread said "If the Bass Cellar was on fire I wouldn't take my trousers down...!" I would, but it would be to dump on the place as it burned!!

    :)

  8.
Thanks m8! Oh, she's been polished 3 times so far!! The factory fitted Vigier strings are on there at present - may stick some light gauge Elites on it at some point. I've set it up today to my taste (very low action) and it purrs!

Will try to get some pics done! Where's Moo (fretted Arpege's original owner!)
I'm afraid I have very few pics of the girl from way back in the early 90's when I got her new from The Bass Centre!!

    :)

  9.
You lot are soooooooo secretive...... come on spill spill spill!!!!!
There are a few things but the top 2 are...

1/ The gap between the strings and the body. I much prefer the smaller gap like the old Series II's and my Alembic MK sig!

2/ A chamfered top edge above the bridge area as this digs into my forearm.

We'll see what happens when the cash comes in!!

    :)

  10.
Really stunning!

Moo - did you specify the `striped' pickup covers; the original Starchild has plain ebony covers. I prefer the striped units - sets the colour off really well!

    Nick
Hey Nick

Yes I did. They are an 'iconic' feature on the JayDee's and I really wanted them on this... You're right, it really works!!

  11.
Hey Matt, that is truly stunning! I was dubious when you first started talking about a white JayDee, but it really is one of the nicest ones I've seen. Maybe one day I'll have John make me a GA24 like that other one on here.
Hi Rich

Thank you buddy... I am overwhelmed by how stunning it is!! Can't stop looking at it!!

Really is a piece of art. I'm so glad I ordered it instead of another Status 15 months ago!

    :)

    What next???

    Maybe a nice GB bass??

  12.
Hmmmmmm..... <Ponders>

I know that I need to save a fair bit for my next Status, but it's also not a secret what I want...
The next bass I order from Rob will be a real pain in the arse for him as I have discovered (from having so many different basses to play) EXACTLY what I like and there will be a few tweaks!!

Hopefully CASH will persuade him to play ball!!

  13.
Spoke to Dawn today `about a price'....!

She was busy picking her kids up from school so she called me back but I was teaching so will try and get in touch tomorrow!
Price for what???

    What you interested in??
