1. Acquired this bass, and I have to say, I'm happy with the tone!! Nice balance, and even though it's only the maple neck, the finish is great. A few nicks in the clear coat is about all. Chunky bridge, and although the action is higher than I usually like, I will leave it as is, as it is nice to play! Was a bit apprehensive before testing it, but all was good. Have yet to play it in anger through the EBS, but through the 30w Laney, it sounds sweet as a nut! New strings on the way too :) Now if I could get asses in order, and get the new project started.

You or a Luthier to plug with wood, redrill and re-route the cavity , then you want something similar to the plastic/metal that goes around a pickup selector on a Les Paul type guitar on the upper side.
BTW who's nicked all your scratchplate screws..?
Being a Fleabass, it came with a small orange scratchplate, held on with strong tape, I had a spare MM style guard at home, so planked it on there with equally strong tape! A friend suggested oversized brass or SS washers, may try that as a temp fix as the bass still functions perfectly :)

3. So, ye may call me mad, but I have a major sweet spot for my Fleabass! The sound through my EBS, with mids boosted is sweet, and, it's FUN to play!

Anyhoo, I was playing a gig befpre Christmas, aaaaannnnnd someone stood on the cable, as I was moving around, and there was a 'ca-CHUNK'. The body, surrounding the jack socket, cracked, and basically, is kind of shagged! I didn't realize how thin the wood was around there. Any suggestions/ideas? I do love the bass, for the reasons I mentioned. Maybe perspex to cover the top side of the bass?

4. Howdy! Been away for a bit, but now I'm back!

Hopefully NBD tomorrow. Trading a Spector NS2000b (Defretted and repainted black), for a Warwick Rockbass (Early model).

Question I have, is what are they like, I have researched, but can't find much info on the single PU version? There are a few threads here with mixed reviews. The Spector is spotless, but I'm not giving the fretless the time it deserves.... So trading it is a good option for me!
Here is what I'm trading:

And here is what I was offered:
Good deal or no? i have never played a Rockbass, let alone an early model from what I can tell. Any advice appreciated :)

5. Post your Frankenbass efforts here!!!

Here's one to start the ball rolling. This was the one I posted before with the horrible plywood body...... Wanted a beat up/roadworn look. Got bored the other day and decided to do some work on it. Good/bad or indifferent, it does look beat up! :-p

Great basses. I would love to own one! I have it's bigger brother, the NS2000/4.
You should get some great fretless tones form it with that pickup placement. Is it a fretless model or has it been defretted?
It was defretted. High but forgiving action. Still cursing at myself for not hitting the notes spot on...... All in time!!

7. So, I have aqquired said bass, repainted in black from 'gold' and it's also my first fretless..... Finding the whole experience very different indeed. Will get pics up soon. Also, it's my first Spector, granted, it's the low end, but paint and de fretting jobs are spot on! Anybody have experience with these basses?

8. I'll get one with all my gear some day soon, but for now have 5 of them :) I'll include amp(s) and the rest when they are all together haha.

Yes, before anybody says it, the Fleabass pickguard is a bit off, took this before I stuck it down. Looks nice with black, rather than orange methinks :D

A Bassmaster Funk?!

Any pictures? I've only ever seen one in my entire life and it was definitely on it's last legs!

To avoid a thread derail, maybe start a new one?

Cheers!

There's pics in the Gallery ( Gear Porn ) Thread. Needs a bit of TLC ( Wiring needs replacing ) but WHAT a bass :)

Mine's different from any I have seen too. Recessed bridge, different neck extension, dark stain. Love it!

OK, when I set my large-screen to view @400%, I have a few observations:

1) The neck seems to be a real Fender neck with the "bullet" truss rod that has had the headstock shaved, but I can't tell anything about the model. It could be anything from a '70's P-neck to one of the more recent MIM, MIJ, or Squier necks that use the same truss rod.
2) The body seems to be an inexpensive copy plywood body that has been stripped and refinished. The P-J configuration may actually be original. If not, the woodworking is good quality. I actually like plywood bodies if they are light weight and overall resonant, because laminations tend to cancel resonances that cause dead spots. Remember: even Gibson ES175 and Epiphone Casino guitars are laminate (plywood) tops, so it's not that it is made of plywood, it is the quality of the plywood.
3) The D string slot seems to be there and the string simply dislodged out of the slot. There may be more damage to the nut that it won't stay in the slot, but that's at the limit of resolution and I can't say for sure.
4) The pickups may very well be DiMarzio P and J pickups. A good combination, because the J is an end-to-end coil humbucker that matches the P, and it seems to be wired V-V-T-jack, which is the easiest, most versatile combination for stage use. (less risk of grabbing the wrong knob in the middle of a set or a song).

Comment: as with any project, make sure the overall cost of acquisition and time/labour factored in are reasonable. It's difficult to identify a project that needs just the right balance of time and money to be a good deal, and it is too easy to get a bucket of parts and overspend putting it back together when a reasonable used bass with a couple of personal modifications would actually be less expensive in the long run, be a better playing bass, and have better resale value.

^^^ THIS!!

I'm getting the bass for free off a friend. Nut and bridge replacement will be sorted, and all the paint and finish will be done by me, so not too costly ;)

Apparently the wiring is OK from what he can see. I'll bring a mini amp up to test it. Could be a fun little project :)

Cheers for the help! Here's a closeup.

Trim those strings, makes my eyes water just looking at them ;)
I don't have it yet, so it was definitely NOT me who put the strings etc on.... I'm getting it as a project in a week or two. Just trying to figure out WHAT manufacturers the neck/body/pups may be. Have a paint job in mind, and bridge type. Just need to figure out what it is.
