1. Another non story from the disgusting bbc. Surprised this hasn't been picked up by the victoria derbyshire show and passed off as news or had the tag line "are you black/a bass player/overlooked, if so, please contact us (because it's a cheap way of getting a story)" added. :)

2. A greatly underrated and overlooked band imo. I was lucky enough to see them at the then Hammersmith Odeon after they returned from touring the States. A fantastic concert. They used to rehearse at Ram Studios in Hayes Middlesex and my Mum would often tell me they'd been in the bank where she used to work. Surprisingly, a very hard rocking band.

Thought he was the boss of Playdood magazine.

The thought of our venerable Dood displaying his bits in various poses, thanks for that!

On the wiki page for 10538 Overture it says Weller sampled the riff for 'Changing Man'.

Whether they actually mean sampled or whether Weller just had his band play it I don't know, but I would guess that the royalties were sorted out long ago.

Tax Man and Start seem very similar too.

5. Paul Rodgers
Paul Carrack
Chris Thompson
George Michael
Freddie

Alison Moyet
Julie London
Dusty Springfield
Oleta Adams

All have range, power, tone and breath control. None of whom could hit a wrong note even if you stood on their foot!

I think Join My Band is the problem there, not you! One of my bass students is in his 70's and another lovely chap I taught was in his 60's - No way is there even a scrap heap! Just got to find the people to play with through a different route.

The first proper band I played in, I was about 14 and the rest of the band were all 40+. We had such great fun, so it's not as if you should be confined to playing with just the 50+ers either.

Good luck!

Thanks for the lovely chap reference, but I'm in my 50's! :P (Hi Dan, best wishes to you and yours.)

PS. Nero, of course, didn't actually Fiddle as the violin hadn't been invented at that point, not was he actually in Rome when the fire broke out though one might implicitly think he was. He did perform on the lyre, however. Exactly how well is impossible to say as he is unlikely to have had any critics.

Rumour at the time was Nero didn't like the negative comments about his lyre solo. Next thing anyone knew was Rome was burning.

Explain yourself, boy! :D
What is meant by heavy blues?
Firstly, I suggest you keep all your numbers to under 4 minutes and keep your guitarist on a very short lead.
Your average punter and particularly ladies get pretty pi$$ed off with widdly merchants going on and on (bit like I do when I post on here).
The big boys of this so called blues world - SRV, EC, Bonapratta, Gary Bore, Walter Trout and the like - got / get away with it coz they've a name and can / could fill big venues.
The rest of us haven't and can't.
So be very careful with your choice of set if you intend playing in public and want to make some money.
Just saying, having played in blooze bands for far too long. :D

Thank you for these wise words, made me realise what our guitarist has been leading us towards.

+1 for Walter Trout, Rory Gallagher , SRV, Mountain, Johnny Wynter and John Mayall etc and some of this..

Stan Webb (Chicken Shack) Poor boy. We used to do this years ago and the intro is an attention grabber if it's tight and loud. The crowd would go from background conversation buzz to WTF in 10 seconds.

CHICKEN SHACK!!!!!!!

I'm late to the party, but WT massive F? I should be getting some sleep but not bloody likely, working my way through their youtube entries.
Thank you so much for pointing them out to me. More than a few numbers are going in to our set.
