Hey Slap1970, It appears that things haven't changed much in 20 years! (JTUK) We're currently gigging the pub circuit and get £200 - £300 for 2 x 1 hr set. Saying that, there's no door charge and you're kind of expected to bring a crowd along to supplement the fee. The way we've found it works is getting a gig with a respected pub and then using that as leverage or actually the Landlord's do talk with each other and recommend. Although I suspect that none of this will be beneficial for your situation of stepping straight in and you may find it a challenge to line up 3 paid gigs straight off the bat. Oh and a lot of pubs require you provide your own backline/PA. Have a crack though mate. Good luck!
