1. I have decided to pretty much knock the PA hire side of things on the head for several reasons (family, work etc), so am selling off my big stuff to make room and funds for a small bar rig so I can get working as a bass player again.....

In the last 2-3 years things have changed a lot with the venues all going to late bar licenses. That now means the night has shifted on a couple of hours later, and when you have monkeys waking you up at 6.30-7.0 at the very latest at weekend it starts to loose its enjoyment...

I am more than happy for the cabs to be sold separately or as a complete system

    So onto the important stuff:-

    Post 1 - DR280's

What I have decided to do is simply work out the total component cost and sell them at that. to be honest I have not included things like PL glue cost, bolts, screws foam, or my time.

Each DR280 cab works out at £235 per cab

All are identical other than 2 are loaded with the Deltalite 2512 driver, and two are loaded with the Delta Pro 400w ferrite magnet driver.
All 4 are loaded with the maximum 12 1016 cpc piezo's in a straight array.

As the Deltalite driver response is identical to the DeltaPro, all 4 cabs sound the same.

They are fitted with custom made (by Penn fabrications) metal powder coated grills, Painted with 4 coats of Aldcrofts textured speaker paint, 100mm heavy duty wheels and dual NL4 speakon sockets. All cabs actually have been built with two pairs of wires running from the NL4 sockets in case I wanted to either revert back to DR290's or run the piezo's off a separate amp. I never found the need to do either :)

All 4 cabs are fitted with the latest filters and throat filler modifications and built to a high tolerance. Each cab has 'DR280' routered into both sides of each cab (looks very sweet).

    some photos:-

This shot was prior to the routered name:-

The flash shows up the piezo array, but normally this is invisible behind the foam backed grills

Access hatch and countersunk black bolts

All of my cabs are fitted with transit covers to keep the grills in perfect order which simply pull straight off...

All 4 DR280's are fitted with angled skids on the btm so that the cabs can be stacked upright if stacked on subs (gasp) and prevents the cabs tilting back when stacked as a bass rig so your head bass does not fall off.

Two of the DR's have bolts located though the side as part of the stand arrangement, and these can either be left for the user or I will fill them in and re-paint them.

I will let the fabricated stand brackets go as part of the sale, so all you would need is a pair of 35mm wind up stands to get them up in the air.

I am more than happy for anybody to call round and hear them, in fact I would prefer that so that they can hear how good they sound....Shipping is not an option, but I could deliver within reasonable distance or meet half way.

  2.
Hi again Dave

Just noticed the error on OMNI 15 sound bite data.

There are no Piezos, Just the Eminence sealed back MR8 mid range unit, and the Kappalite 3015LF Neo 15" drive, plus crossover units.

    Will.
It must be your age Will, your memory is fading......
I brought along my own 6bank piezo melded array if you remember and plugged it into the cab. It was certainly plugged in during the sound bite recording or wWithout it you would not be hearing that top end sizzle that both cabs have in abundance.

Sorry Mottlefeeder, managed to add noise to this thread :)

    Back on topic

  3. Looking good so far Rob

Bit late now, but I found the best way to get the PL off the ply was not to try and wipe it off (as that makes the ply look a real mess...), but allow it to expand and then just scrape it off with a chisel.

Now you have it all over the ply, just sand the whole shebang down with a power sander and fairly rough grade pad/disc.

I now own a Random orbit sander, belt sander and standard Pad sander, the orbit sander and belt sander can be deadly to your nice timber box with the wrong application......

  4.
So David, when are you coming up to Dundee with the 280s to see Dave (non zero) and I
As soon as he has the new one built with the throat fillers and CPC piezos.......
And looking forward to it..... ;)

Tell him to get his arse in gear :)

  5. I have 4 DR280's, a pair of Titan 48's and a wedgehorn.

The DR280 is an amazing cab both as PA mid/top cab and also as a bass cab.

Any body is more than welcome to call and hear the cabs for themselves. I am in Chorley, Preston M61 Junction 8

    Some photos:-

Old SWR amp shown here, I now use a little Mark Bass LMK

Here is link to a sound bite of the DR280 and Omni 15 recorded at the exact same level/ same bass head, same bass:-
