1. Real quality stuff HH.
I bought a VA60 1x12 combo in the early 80s which the dealer told me was made by people who used to work at HH.
Hideous in stippled red or gray finish but I used to gig it in a punk band and for small gigs (200people) with no PA connection and it still cut through the sound, real quality.

2. Any cheap 1x12 in a cab that is maybe 3 times smaller than it should be for the speaker will always sound carp I think.
Did'nt the bass guitar mag review also say it farted at low volume.
You need a Omni 10 if you want a lightweight cab at a lightweight price. There is enough good reviews on these now by happy self builders.
YOU CAN BUILD MUCH BETTER CABS THAN YOU CAN BUY.

3. Yeah, stick with what works for you. I used a 60 watt transistor bass combo when we were teenage punks and it cut through the sound fantastic on stage with a very loud guitarist, just a good combination of speaker and efficient amp.

4. The guide boards, cutting sledge and circular saw are handy but if you are over 40 and was taught woodwork at school instead of design technology you may well be able to manage without.
I did both my BFM cabs with a handsaw and no clamps, there is always a way if you want to save money like I did. A spirit level, a set square and handsaw are enough if you build on a flat and level surface.

Good luck with the cabs and please keep us informed.

There is a good BFM presence over on http://finnbass.com

5. Celestion green bass speaker BL10-100X 8ohm are only about £30. You can get them in various power ratings, unless you are using a huge amp that speaker would spread the load nicely.

Quite right, but you will never persuade the non believers .

Sorry did I say £120 to build something better than those crates with trendy names, I meant £100 ish

BMF T24 plans £10ish
wood 1/2 inch £30
Beta 10 £42.99
Speaker terminals £2.99
Blackboard paint £5.99
Glue £6.98
Corners £3.99
Screws £2.89
2.5mm cable £1.99

7. About 40 pounds all in.
Sorry about the photos, will sort something.

Nice to see you are about to try some BFM cabs, I have 2 for sale due to their weight as I have rhumatoid arthritis, but to a young person, well one in each hand is possible . (see for sale section) I could work you out special price if you want anything else. I am having a clear out and will just keep what I really need.

8. 460w bridged, premium quality. I bought this to use on my telly but a change of speakers sorted the problem instead. I have no use for it now. Bought from a friend who used it for a one man band, very light use. Good condition front and box, couple of chips on handles which have been touched up. Lives in homemade wooden rack which you could have. One of the last quality amps before price became the main quality of a amp.
There is one on Ebay at present for £295 bin :) Yours for £125 to a bass player, more to a guitarist   Pick up only I am afraid from Kettering in Northamptonshire, or you could get your retired dad to fetch it. Or you could arrange a courier.

This link now works.

9. Did anyone else get a free copy of Bass guitar magazine land on their door mat this morning, if you payed for it I would complain too. Their is plenty in the mag, not bad at all apart from the review of 5 very expensive square boxes with 12" speakers in them that you could build yourself for £120.

10.
Your the fella trying to sell this on ebay arnt you?

Why dont you pop on over to the introductions page and let us know who you are and what your about. This is a place for likeminded (and sometimes slightly warped) bassists, Unfortunately its not a free eBay.

Theres also a thread in eBay links to your listing with regards to your price, which you may want to go and have a nosey at!

I do hope you find yourself at home!
11.
I think you'll find there's a bit more to it than putting the numbers in winsd, Alex.
If you put numbers in Winsd you get something big enough to hang your wifes clothes in. Anyone else noticed that. :)

12. DIY Bill Fitzmaurice Tuba 24 bass cab for sale fitted with a new Eminence Beta 10" speaker 250watts at 8ohn. Its made from a mixture of mdf and ply and is finished in matt black paint, ungigged but dusty, it has clamp speaker terminals but could be changed easily no speaker corners fitted yet. size 24" square 45ibs weight. £75. The photo on the left is the internals of this cab minus speaker.

ALSO , empty Bill Fitzmaurice DR 250 bass cab £30 which needs a lot of filling and painting but worked well when I tested the abouve Beta 10 in it. It is voiced for bass guitar only with no tweeters fitted . Size 20" x 22" weight -- a lot.
This is made from a variety of wood/scrap wood and I built this in the easter holidays to pass the time/keep hands busy when my teenagers were out, I never thought I would build it all but I did. If you put a beta 10 in it (£40) and finished the outside with filler/paint and fitted speaker terminals you would have a great set up as the two would compliment each other.

I am selling because I am switching to the smaller Omni 10.5 because my back goes even when I put the milk back in the fridge.

Some people say you cannot build decent bass cabs but this is rubbish spread by makers of expensive MDF/ply boxes with cheap 15" speakers in them.

Photos of both http://www.finnbass.com/showthread.php?t=688 page 2. Bottom photos T24 top ones of DR250.

The BFM DIY speaker site http://www.billfitzmaurice.com

PICK UP FROM KETTERING , NORTHANTS ONLY CHEERS. Or you could send your retired dad to get them.

13. Celestion do a 15" full range bass guitar speaker for £40 ish which even though the specs look bad it sounds very good in both the cabs I have and they are both totally different sizes. Good enough for any pub gig.

If you want something very good though http://www.billfitzmaurice.com 10" is all you need at around £120 completed for a T24 or Omni 10.5.

The best advice is only listen to good advice .

14. Also used to be plans on the Celestion site.
My BFM Tuba 24 sounds like a 15" even though its only a £40 10" eminence Beta.. See my photo on the left, 24" square cab, easy to build. Total cost under a ton.

15. I hope not :) , if I remember rightly the seats were always folded up at the side when we used to watch punk bands there when we were teenagers. The poly and the uni in Leicester were always good venues too which dont seem to get used for gigs anywhere near as much as they used too by well known bands. From what I see on the net small venues seem very active though in the town (the shed and The Charlotte) .Most well known bands seem to avoid Leicester now when touring which is surprising as there is a large population. My favorite memory from De Montford hall, The Ramones in 81 or 82 i think, stuck against the radiators at the front of the stage. The rads were on full as well.

16. Bruce said in a guitar mag interview a few years ago that he put the fender pickup in the Rick because he wanted the Rick looks and the fender sound, "but it doesnt quite work like that" was his quote if I remember. He also said that once the Jam started to get well known he had Ricks coming out of the woodwork from Rickenbacker becaues he had a Aria/Rick copy and they gave him the real thing, so he could afford to mess around with them.
P.S Saw them at Cambridge Junction earlier in the year and the place nearly self combusted. There is a video clip from that gig on their Myspace site and its good quality. Might try to get to De Montford hall in Leicester on 1 dec.
