1.
Without wanting to reheat several old topics at once, it definitely depends what the gear is - the driver, the amp, etc. Perhaps to ask as broad a question as 'is 1x12 enough' is probably too wide a question. But hey, it makes for good discussion!
Yeah I couldn't find an exact thread that matched this very broad question. I just wanted to get the opinion of some of you lot to check I wasn't being completely stupid! I'm glad using a single 112 is somthing that others do, and have also considered. I'm leaning towards the modular idea, BUT.... I suppose the question is narrowing a bit now though... Can a 112 be more than enough, and therefor, will I ever use the second 112?
 2. Images linked below. Has that worked? https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rlu42biwdtdkxdq/AABZLzWWgqNm1gZwH0qIS05va?dl=0
 3. Thanks everyone for your input so far! I feel like I'm getting somewhere. YES!!
 4.
These days I favour my Aguilar TH500 and 2 Barefaced Super Compacts. Before that I used the TH500 with a Berg CN212. I prefer the separates because they are lighter (I have a bad back) and I can use 1 if that's all I need.
Ok. Thanks for that. I'll do some more research into these.
For what it's worth, I went back to a 212 because I never used the 112s separately. The 212 is about 25kg, so not awful. There are times where the easier carry would be nice. But I'm not desperate to go back to separates. That depends on your transport and health though I guess! Having one bigger cab is more of a pain at home than out at a gig actually.
These are all things I've been thinking about. Including where can I hide a 212 at home?!? The other thing is that a pair of 112's (especially the ones I've been looking at) are way more expensive than a single 212. I still haven't totally discounted the 210LNT. Damn and blast this is hard!!
 5.
Sounds like you might need a Super Combo: https://www.thomann.de/gb/markbass_cmd_super_combo_k1.htm Comes with a super price. Walbassist loves his. But if 450W is not getting you there, then you probably do need to think about either an extension cab as chris_b has suggested or separate head and cabs. But remember that if want to go twice as loud you will need 10x the increase in wattage. So how about a Carvin 2000W head and a couple of 2x12 Berg cabs and a Dark Glass Alpha Omega Pedal to round it off?
Super combo looks ace. I'll check out some demos. Pretty sure my local PMT can get them in too. Thanks! Ha!.. I don't need to be twice as loud. Would just like a little more oomph when there's a lack of sub woofer in the PA.
 6.
I find I mostly use both 112's because they sound so much better together. On the 5% of gigs where I only need 1 112 then that works too.
What cabs and amp are you using? I'm getting closer to this option. EEEK! Then I start thinking, "why not just get a 212". My TC combo weighs 26kg. Any of the lightweight 212's I've been looking at are no more than that, but that's still quite heavy for a small person like me. So I say to myself, "well just get a the 210LNT!".. but that's not as versatile as having a pair of 112's... THEN I start thinking... you get the idea.
 7. I did it! I multi-quoted!!!
Go modular. A combo with an extension cab or, IMO better still, an amp with 2 112 cabs. I have an 800 watt amp and a 500 watt amp and 2 112 cabs. That gives me a choice of 4 different rigs.

I you are looking at the spartan and sometimes need a little more than a 112 then it is worth looking at the 210LNT. It is an astonishing good cabinet...

Hi Jumanji (good film btw!). I totally agree about the convenience of combos!! The AC 121 delivers 500W by itself with no extension cab (in fact it's not designed to have an extension cab). I've never come close to needing to push it to full volume even with 200+ in the audience. How big a venue are thinking of?
I have an 800 watt amp and a 500 watt amp and 2 112 cabs. That gives me a choice of 4 different rigs.
Thanks for the suggestion, that's a good way to look at it. The problem I have is that if I have 2 x 112 cabs, most of the venues would suit just one of them and so the other would sit disused. If I can find one speaker and amp that covers everything, it would always get used! ... (I'm thinking/typing out loud here). Then again, I also (like everyone else) like lightweight gear. I'm young enough that my back is ok, but I know enough older musicians and their spine pains to avoid heavy cabs. My heart says get a 212... future me says get two lighter cabs and stick them together!
 9.
I you are looking at the spartan and sometimes need a little more than a 112 then it is worth looking at the 210LNT. It is an astonishing good cabinet...
That's pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear! Obviously the Spartan has more beef than my current RH450, so matched with the 210LNT I think is a great idea. But I do like the modular idea... I must learn to multiquote.

Barns and the dreaded marquees! My current TC combo 450 often sounds feeble anywhere other than on stage. So I'm just wondering if a more powerful 112 could be capable of doing any better.
 11.
I'm in danger of becoming a stuck record (for those of us who can remember life before CDs and streaming), but just wrote this on another thread and seems to also be relevant to your Q: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/306621-affordable-full-range-combo/
A stuck record, maybe. Still a good point you've made in that other thread. I don't really neeeeeed a bigger setup 100% of the time, but it's for the times when I wished I'd gone bigger! I really REALLY like the convenience of a combo amp, but would something as small as the AC do so well in a larger venue?
 12.
A 112 will more than likely be loud enough once you get to the higher wattage amps, but whether or not the sound is full enough for you depends probably on music style and the other instruments/amps in the band.
That's a very good point. I mostly play in popular music function bands with the occasional pub-rock. Usually one guitar and keyboard, so not lots to battle against. I'm considering the Vanderkley Spartan... not cheap I know, but why the heck not hey?!
 13. Obvisously a 112 isn't going to suit all situations, but for most pubs, clubs and smaller wedding venues it will be fine, assuming you can pump a little through the PA. What's the most powerful 112 cab/amp option out there?
 14. Howdy y'all. I currently own a TC RH450/210 Combo. I find that in larger venues I'm cranking it up to be more audible out front and it looses definition. I'm toying with the idea of bigger air movers and an amp, and I've come to these two... I'm struggling to decide between a Vanderkley setup and a Bergantino setup. My heart says Vanderkley and my back says Bergantino. There's a few kg's difference in favour of the Berg gear, which appeals long term. I'm out playing most weekends, sometimes 3 times a weekend, so weight is important. Having said that, I will be using a trolley/folding sack barrow to transport from the car to stage, so I can get by. The reviews of each are very strong. So how do I decide? It's not like it's particularly easy to try this stuff out side by side either... I live in Norwich so there's no bass shops around, nor is there a music shop that stocks this stuff. I've been looking at reasons to go for different size cabs. Is it a pair of 112's for versatility? A single 212? or even the 210LNT appeals because of its physical size to power handling. Obviously the Spartan amp has more headroom, and so maybe the VK 210 is the way to go. Let's assume I'm going to get either a Spartan and 212MNT or B|Amp and HDN212... Any wise words or definitive reasons to pick either? Obviously both are high end setups. The price difference is about £50 (before shipping/postage from wherever I get it from), so only a pinch extra for the VK gear. Is there a pinch of knowledge out there that might help sway my decision? Thanks and PLEASE HELP! My brain hurts.
 15. more pics and a video to follow. Can mail images too. Or I may upload a link to photos.
 16. Fender 2005 USA Jazz. Maple Neck. Factory Fitted S1 Switch. Includes Hiscox Hard Case and some upgrades. £700 posted within the UK. Please PM me. (will also send to mainland Europe, but will check the cost first if anyone is interested) I'm in Norwich if anyone is interested and would like to test it out. Upgrades are... Delano JMVC FE/M2 Pickups Hipshot Ultralite Clover Tuners Babicz 'Fender thrubody' Bridge All original parts are included in the sale. The original chrome strap buttons will go back on it instead of the Straplock ones pictured... I'd like to keep those Weighs 4.25kg (9,5lb) This bass plays nicely and has been setup well. I will add a link to a YouTube clip so you can hear it played and so you can see it works. The S1 switch adds a nice chunkiness to sound. When engaged, the pickups are in series which makes the bass a little louder and boosts some tasty low mids. (Playing this Bass again is making me not want to sell it! DAMN!) The bass has various dings and scrapes that I've tried to show in the pictures. The main chip was on the neck, but has been "drop filled" and professionally finished so it's really smooth. Visible, but you wouldn't know it was there to the touch. The neck plays really nicely and has a nice smooth satin feel. Reason for sale - to fund a new rig! 17. Hello! Did you ever shift this Aurora?
 18.
These combos look great. I've got a Gallien Krueger RB1001-II head that I use with a matching 4x10 cabinet and I get told to turn it down if I push it past number 2! I'm wondering if I should be selling my backline and buying something like this........
So ummmm.... Yeah!! Buy this one ;-)
 19. I'm always trying to downsize! Especially now I have a subwoofer as part of my PA gear. I mostly use a TC Electronic 112 and a GK MB200 for a bit of trouser-flap on stage, along with in-ears for detail. We just don't need massive, heavy gear anymore!
 20.
Do you know what the difference is compared to the mkII MKII models? Thanks
I'm not sure about the sound of a "II" as I've not used one, sorry. Have you tried a YouTube search of the new model?
