Played my first fretless gig last night with new band All The Queen's Ravens, using my Takamine B10. Loved it

i've always been a fan of using 2 mics. a large diaphragm condenser (i use a rode nt1-a) aimed at the middle of the cone and a dynamic (audix i-5) at the edge but at a slight angle facing away from the centre. the blend of the 2 seems to give me the most accurate sound to what i'm hearing from the cab with minimal tweeking from software.

Yep , might be ineresting , like one for low mid-bass , & the other one for high mid-treble!
Like a Shure Beta 56a for bass & a SM 58 for mid-treble maybe , + DI & mix them as well as you wrote there -
Thanx for the comebach Kiwi , yes mine is a 6-String , I like it unplugged , the feeling I get from it , it s when I m plugged in that it s not up to my taste .
Like you said , true , need more control on mids , anyways , fretless is mids right! lol
Here s the link for Aero Instrument Pickups ; http://www.aeroinstrument.com/
Yep , I ordered it with soapbars , I thought about having Aero Instrument biulding me some crackerhead PUs lol , Larry Pollack (Aero) used to supply Fodera basses for a while , so he must know a thing or 2 about pickups ...lol maibe his N-Series humbucker PUs or the ACG PUs &/or preamps , should be very ineresting also -
Hey Kiwi , can you elaborate on your Pedulla Pentabuzz / Alembic Activaotrs & its East Preamp , if possible please , I do own one Pedulla & it looks interesting with other electronics

It might have been this thread : http://basschat.co.uk/topic/3919-acg-bass-pre-amp/ -

I know that somebody fitted the preamp in a Thumb Bass a few years back and loved it.
I can't recall who it was, but there was a thread on here, or bassworld, or whatever it was back then. It seemed to work nicely though.
I think the flexability of the ACG Preamp would make it a success in any bass, it'll obviously work differently from bass to bass, but I think it'll be effective wherever you put it.

Just found this useful site which will calculate all the suty and VAT for you.
http://www.dutycalculator.com/
Really easy to use as well. Just a shame VAT is now 20%.....

Single coils make noise to start. Add a better and more powerful set and you are bound to get more hum. Last I looked the Squier was not really shielded well. So you probably have to add shielding. Also, check some of the grounds again. Sometimes it may look solid but you might have a cold solder joint.

Might also be sheilding , did you shield the pickups & the cavities of the pickups & the preamp cavity too! What it does when you touch the strings , does the hum stops , also
-
Wow , nice Status with gold hardware you got there
-
Yep , must be lots of work in there , if you want your own sound in it right
-
an amp I meant sorry pal
