:)

    its an esp ltd B-254

They are out of production, I saved about £300 on it by buying it out of the last batch from a french website

    p.s. our new myspace

  2.
Get a Mac

It comes with Garageband which is all the recording/writing software you need until your ready for the really serious stuff.

Plus iTunes on the Mac is far better than the Windows version.
(I always think the poor performance of iTunes for Windows is Apple's revenge for MS Office being such a dog on the Mac!)
Couple of problems there.

    1. The itunes thing is not a big deal and should not determine which machine you purchase, be it a Macbook or a Laptop.

2.Macbooks have a massive mark up and you will pay over £1000 for the most basic of new models if you want them to handle music software smoothly.

Laptops are less user friendly in this area but will come at a significantly lower cost. Its annoying that I dont have time to link some spec's for you as i've got work to do, but basically if you did decide to spend £1000+ that you would on a mac.

You can get a decent laptop for the job for around £500 - £700 being more 'futureproof' if you spend anything above that.

You can, indeed, spend less than that, although this isnt really a great idea as you start to see more significant performance gains past the £500 mark

Macbooks = for extreme ease of use and good software packages but much more expensive

Laptops = less £ for the amount of power and build quality youll get, fairly simple to use, massive range of compatible software

I know this is a bit of a blind argument missing many points but im in a rush and just thought i'd whack something down

    :)

ps. DO NOT GET A MAC. Although I do really like mac's, with the current range of dual core and now quad core laptop cpu's now available for £1000 you can get a very powerfull workhorse of a laptop for the same as a low/mid range specced macbook

  3. After watching Man-U beat Sunderland on saturday, we played the Brighton Freebutt. Was pretty decent, we were on second. Its got a nice stage but a bit of a weird room layout with a massive pillar in the centre. We had a fill in drummer and it was hios 3rd time playing with us, so a few minor cockups were understandable :)

First gig with the new band

Overall, there was a good response and a great laugh !

  4.
Sorry guys, forget the hedgehog jokes, there is only 1 car for the jobbing musician, particularly if you also have to transport drummer, PA, you name it....

It can only be a Volvo estate... 240, 740, 850, V70... Very little difference in capacity, my flightcases go across the back, and with the seats down about the same floorspace as a transit van! Well maybe not quite, but I have transported Amp, 410, 115 cab, AND the two top speakers and stands from our PA, and the Guitarist with his gear too.... Not forgetting mic stands, cable trunk and my three basses...

My V70 does 40MPG on diesel, so not as juicy as you would have thought either... Oh and its a proper car, not an MPV or converted van, so comfortable too!! You can pick up an old one reasonably cheaply, safe in the knowledge the diesel engine is good for 200,000 miles

    Nuff said!!
+1

    Shed on wheels

Old Xantia's are pretty decent too.

I love the old school hydraulics, bonfire levels of heating and sofa style seats, perfect for winter gigging :)

  5.
Protest The Hero's Kezia and Fortress. Arif is absolutely mental on bass. Have a look at Sequoia Throne if you want a real challenge.

I just got this a few weeks ago and am blown away by his playing. An album even non metal fans should check out if you are keen on technique

  6.
Surely the model up is the UX-8 - that has 8 inputs instead of a stereo pair that the UX1 / 2 have.
oops, yeah youre right haha

On a side note, one of my friends has had an m-audio for a while now and he loves it. I personally would stick with a UX model if given the option

  7.
at first i thought he was a practioner of Wing-Chun because of the stance he held while the guy was taunting him ... it turned out he's actually a Karate practioner... you have to love that low guard traditional karate stance :)

the guy trained in martial arts really well for remaining calm like that the whole time... even when he went for it, he still maintaned a calm demeanor.

    a real martial artist indeed.
I am a black belt in SSKA shotokan karate. It's nice to see someone keep calm and use their training wen they need it.

It's good fun and easy to get into, i'd reccomend it for anyone who would like to learn how to come out on top in a situation like this, and get fit !

  8. just checking :) im going to go through with the purchase with a fellow basschatter tonight

  9. ok then answer me this :)

shall I go ahead with the perfect cond, as new Sennheiser e865s (rrp £170) for £80 or a SM58 for £75 ?

I'm assuming the Sennheiser e865s will be better due to being rrp almost double the cost

  10.
OBBM on this forum does top quality cables of all kinds for very reasonable costs and fast delivery.

    OBBM's feedback
Cheers OldGit !

  11. Thanks guys for your thoughts on this

SM58 seems like a decent option :) I'll probably pick up one on the weekend if I dont come across a better deal by then

The beta is going to be a bit out of my price range at the moment but I will look into those in the future.

Is there much difference in the quality of the cables and if so, what sorta thing should I be looking at ?

  12. I know this isnt the ideal place to post this, but I know you guys would give me good advice ! :)

I've started doing main/shared vocals in my band whilst holding down the bass duties and now need a mic that is going to be built well and last touring/ intensive gigging.

I dont know a hell of a lot about the different standard of mic's out there and would really appreciate a bit of insight from anyone with more knowledge than me in what would be a good buy.
