I'm just delighted to find that @Flanker is still with us.

I still remember buying your Alleva Coppolo LPB5 in a lovely complicated part-swap deal involving the Powersoft Digam that I'd bought from @Dood. That AC then got swopped back and forth with @Clarky for a while before being sold to a Basschatter on the Isle of Wight.

Haha 🤣. All the gear, no-idea. I lost thousands during that period from buying new basses then moving them on a few months later. I was definitely searching for something. I apologised to my dear wife a couple of years ago when it struck me how bad it must have looked from her point of view.

Are you still driving BMW’s? I might still have had my beloved Soarer when you came to MK, or maybe the 530d?

Thank you so much Jack.  I really appreciate everyone’s warm welcomes. 🙏

I also love that you’ve kept Spiderman dancing all this time. 👏

Always welcome to drop in now and again for a wee blether and catch up on the bass gossip.

Sorry to hear about having use of only one arm/hand.

We can still chat about basses tho.

    Thank you Dave.

I had to kind of let go of playing bass and aviation for the sake of my mental health since 2011. However, recently I’ve discovered the world of virtual reality flying, in which I can once again fly all types of planes to all sorts of destinations - it’s been a sort of game changer for me. Playing bass took over from aviation as my no1 passion before my stroke, or so I thought, but I think the truth is that flying/aviation was deep in my being from an early age. I might have changed my path had I found bass earlier, but it wasn’t to be.

I am so grateful for both being able to listen to bass players and music in general, and now I am happy to have found flying once more too.

Anyone who has an interest in flying really ought to try it.

Maybe next time around I’ll try being a pro bass player? I know it’s an uphill struggle! 😊

  3. Thanks, but I doubt I’ll be staying. I still love bass, sometimes I even enjoy playing what I can, but I rarely play nowadays. (I’ve only the use of one arm/hand). I’ve a nice Yamaha precision, but it’s heavy. I might consider looking for a lighter precision too.

I think I’ve better learned how to listen.
Although I never met many people from the forum in person, I will always remember it very fondly and probably will keep returning every now & then, as long as I am able.

  4. I left the forum because of health reasons over a decade ago - I physically couldn’t really play any longer. I’ve been banned from most of the forums I liked, so it’s probably just as well! 🤣

I’ve since realised that my buying and selling of (quality 😊) gear was an addiction.
Most people really don’t like having their strongly held beliefs questioned, even by ‘nice guys’.

  5. Hi
It’s a long time since I posted here!!!
I recently went with my daughter to see Lianne LH play at the Koko venue in London. I was impressed by her bass player who she called something like Janice Bennett, the Surname I’m pretty sure of, but not about the first name.
I can’t find anything about her by searching on the internet - it’s like she doesn’t exist!
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. 🙏

  6. My wife reckons It's a sure sign i'm getting better!

The nut size doesn't bother me really but I suppose the smaller the better. It's the right hand thats the problem. It's sloooowly coming right and my lovely physios are all quite upbeat. Everybody says the fingers are the last to return.

I don't think it'll ever be back to two fingered Jamiroqai though!!!!

  7. Thanks guys.
The black one was nice but the red precision was my favourite Celinder, think Kiwi still has it!
In spite of my minor disagreements with Chris they are still my favourite bass, anyone with a four string Celinder precision want to trade????

  8. I have two Five strings ,they are both beautiful but I had a stroke fifteen months ago and to say the least it has been very frustrating on the bass front !!!
I would find a 4 string Precision easier I think.

Nordy VP5 lightweight (Around 8.5 lbs)
    Alder body / Rosewood neck
    Nordy gig bag.
Very good/ Excellent condition. Bought new from BassDirect around 18 months old.(hardly used )

    Price: £1650.00

Consider 4string Precision trade (part or full)
Prefer lightish weight / Maple neck

Unfortunately cannot drive / Available Milton Keynes area near J14 / M1

  9. I have suffered the same fate as Chuck, as a professional pilot that avenue has been closed to me but it is playing the bass that I miss the most.
Let's hope and pray that he can ( in time) play the bass again. It is a long hard slog and I'd imagine a lot harder at Chuck's age than mine( I am 51).
    I'll make a donation.

  10. Hi Jimmy
I have a Skjold and a Nordy which are both relatively expensive basses, but both are worth the money in my opinion. There will always be people who put more or less value on money, I would be less inclined to buy a Fodera for example, as they are charging too much even accounting for their geographical location imho. To me it says more about the luthier than the bass so I'd rather not buy their goods.

On the other hand I would hope people can make a comfortable living for their expertise, as with everything there is probably a happy balance to be struck somewhere.

It is probably not worth getting involved in the ethics of things, I think that's a slippery slope ........

I am surprised at the response you have received........I don't think you've deserved it but maybe I'm too soft!

  11. Thanks for your kindness everyone.

I've done two videos - one with the Nordy P and one with the Skjold. I had to have a go on the Skjold as it's a lovely bass and was feeling left out ! I say videos- its Eithne with her iphone!

I thought I was pretty average before the stroke! I was Victor Wooten compared to now!!! HaHa

  12. Well guys I managed to play along to Dusty Springfield ' The Look of Love ' today !! I even managed a few notes in time with the record!!

'So what ?' I hear you say . Well its the first time in seven months I've managed anything like it since my stroke!!

My fingers on my right hand will not extend at all, so the big problem has been keeping them from damping the strings.Yesterday I tried a few things and managed to strap up my three fingers and just play with my forefinger, I reckon it'll work. Take months if not years to play anything decent but who cares, I'm on my way!!!!Awesome.

I played for thirty odd years and didn't think I'd ever play again. Never say never eh?

I'll put a video up as promised but in spite of the bass being up pretty loud you can only hear the song ?

    Thankful ; Thankful ; Thankful ;Thankful ; Thankful ; Thankful ; Thankful................
