1. If I tell you about my routine maybe you can get an idea of stuff to do Scales/Modes I start off with everytime i sit and practice, this i do for around 30mins with metrenome. Also its worth writing the tempo you begin with, finish with. Arpeggios in cycle of 4ths and 5ths this i do for 20 mins. with metrenome and writing my start/finish bpm. With the scales and that I do the intervals as well so 3rds 4ths 6ths and so on. This is great for me to understand the intervals as well as the funny fingerings for the intervals, really warms your fingers up. Then i start practicing certain aspects of bass playing, walking bass, its one of the things that I want to do freely as a bass player, so i spend quite a bit of time on that. What else I practice is one random jazz standard and learn the melody of it just to mix up things and also not being stuck into playing basslines. Ive also started to work quite abit of songs by ear to improve my "ear"as you would say. This is just for me being a well rounded musician but it wouldnt hurt if you did do it. And lastly, if i cant remember what else i do, I learn a tune. At the momment im learning soul intro/the chicken and it is bloody hard, worth the challenge. If anyone out there thinks my routine is bad or can add to what I do just tell me ! Hope this helps in some way ?
2. Get the jaco dvd or off the web (yutube) It isnt massivley into the theory side of things but man there are a load of excercises that will build up your technique. If i had got this when i first started I would be playing so much better. Just go through the Video and then start doing the excercises but dont rush (like me) and do one technique untill its perfect or have set days to do one technique and the other technique another day. Overall great stuff, as usual. Laslty, Id like to mention what was told to me, get a book/dvd or whatever tutorial thing you have and keep it ! dont start 1 and find another book, it just spoils what you are learning from one and the other book says its wrong. So stick to your guns is what I should say
3. If there is anyone who is interested but holding back due to the repair, come and have a go and judge for yourself ! Im free most of the days so give me a shout. Playing it should clear up all the misconceptions revolving around the bass
4.
Well, I don't want to sound rude since I'm not really interested, but this somehow sounds like there's something shady with that bass or at least it doesn't really feel right. If the bass was broken and repaired once, I believe you should provide as much info as possible to all potential buyers rather than playing hide and seek.
LOl, the only reason i pm'd was because there are also a few more answers I wanted to give about the bass. I dont want to sound rude as well but the amount of "thick" questions I have recieved e.g. will the bass fall into 2 at a gig is beyond me. Here is what I wrote just incase anyone thinks there is something up with the bass: 'The nature of the repair is that the previous owner, Scooby had cracked it in the front of the body due to an accident whilst he was cleaning the bass. (I think it fell off the table or something along the lines of that). As you can see the line on the bass, barely shows where the bass actually fell and was repaired. The repair was supervised by Overwaters own Chris May, so it's not a local luthier that did the job. I've had manu people ask me about the repair such as "Will it spontaneously break into 2?" or things along the lines of that. I can guarantee that nothing of the sort would happen as the repair was done using wood epoxy which is a strong bond. Sound wise the bass is phenomenal, never ever had a bass like this before. super versatile. The most recent thing that was done to the bass was a checkup (electronics) that the previous owner, Pete had done from a local luthier. Other than that the bass is faultless. Sorry for the long reply just wanted to get the facts through and save you time asking. If theres anything else let me know' Hope thay clears it up for you and everyone else
5.
I might be being a bit slow but I can't quite understand what's been repaired. Can you explain what the exact nature of the repair is? What happened to the bass and what has been done to rectify it, I'm quite interested in this but could just do with a bit more info. many thanks Martin
Pm'd Mate

10. Really dying for the other bass I want ! Someone take this off my hands !!!
11. Worth a try Do you know of any websites which have transcribed these solo's accurately ?
12. So I've dipped myself into the world of soloing, slightly. What I,ve noticed alot of Youtube teachers say that learning solos from other instruments eg saxophone, trumpet and so on will eventually increase your own abillity in soloing and even change your outlook on it. What im asking is has anyone experimented with learning solos from any jazz standards and applied them on bass ? Worth it putting the grueling practice hours for this ? Or just stick to bass solos ? I know it cant be useless to learn but y'know Cheers guys
13. What Ive forgot to mention is if your local, pop by and try it, I'll try and put new strings but they wont last long ! So hurry !
14. As Gibletts mentioned, really dying to get my hands on another bass thus the low price. Nothing wrong with ghe bass, UK made, electronics perfect, sound quality is great. I guess its just the repair most people are weary about ??.
