I can never get my head round the CS's thinking at times, the bass looks great btw, but why 3-tone sunburst?, at least do it over 2-tone, so it looks like its been refinished over an original finish, not refinished over a refinish?
Quite, my learned friend. -

Many thanks but are you a good samaritan or one of this forums resident 'experts'?
Both. I kid you not.
I was attempting to gift you a yawning smilie...

Yawning smiley not uploading. -

.... they are a lousy replacement for a bass.
Bit harsh, that. All depends on what you're doing with it. They're fine if you're augmenting real songs and not just masturbating. I was going to say ask John and George.... but they're dead. So.... ask Roy Babbington. -

In 1997, Fender transitioned to a serial number decal that included the words “Crafted in Japan” above the serial number.

Do you think anybody would be printing out Rickenbacker headstocks in the near future?
Rickenbacker, perhaps? -

Personally I'd like a thumbrest, Ebony or Rosewood, would rather have no pickguard or screw holes & no BadAss but that's just me.....
No it isn't. -

Please tell me if you recon I'm wrong, but Brown Eyed Girl is a bit of a challenge to play as a first piece.

Is this a trick question? -
So you buy it, and store it in your uncle's loft. Just think how much it'll fetch in forty years time..!
Probably about two grand. They'll have no rarity value like true originals. Too many of 'em around already. -
Definitely rosewood Andy. Jazz basses don't look right with maple necks...

This. -

Cheers McKendrick could well be, If it is can I put the price.......... way up.
Have a look in the neck pocket, if it IS a VSP there'll be a JB62VS or JB62-VSP stamp. Or JB62US or just JB62 if it isn't. Your description suggests VSP, but the photo's (non reverse tuners) suggest US. -

Cor - I thought it would be a straightforward reply!

Nice bass....is this a 62US with the alder body and US pups or the basswood body?
I'll put my hat on it being a VSP with special Jap pickups which in my opinion are head and shoulders better than the US pickups fitted to CIJ/US models. It'll either be an alder or sen (Jap ash) body, definitely not basswood.
That's a rare non-catalogue colour, too.... probably an Ishibashi special order or summat like.
Gorgeous basses these... http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/jb62-vsp.html -
There are three grades of pickups used on MIJ/CIJ Jazzes:
1) A very acceptable mass production type that goes on most models.
2) US pickups go on models suffixed 'US'.
3) Models suffixed 'VSP' get a very high quality pickup that is a Jap made boutique-ish version of an American early 60's vintage type - these ones are my fave Jazz pickups. For me they carry more clarity and weight than US Fender pickups and wee all over most after-market types.
Check the nomenclature on this: http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/products_jazzbass.html -

DV247 have been consistently useless when I've tried them: charging me for goods they don't have in stock....
I've had precisely the same experience with them - tho' I doubt it is the reason they currently stock no Fender guitars. -

I think the price on that '61 is a little high, given the front paint damage and re-located thumbrest though. Rare nonetheless.
I wouldn't give nine for that never mind nineteen.
Carry on. -

Fender uses 250K, and Gibson uses 500K.
Both manufacturers use 250k on single coil, 500k on buckers... with one or two little anomolies hither and thither. -
I love the P-bass and Jamerson's work, but to see everyone roll around and play dead when someone shouts "P-bass" gets kind of boring.
Soz, I don't get this, but then again I'm really 'kin thick.
oh lookin great there, just one question why does it have two strap locks on the bottom.
To stop the thing falling over when they stand it on it's end....
.... or when somebody shouts "P-Bass". -

I'm considering putting a new fretted neck on a fretless Jazz that I have. Don't want to spend a fortune, but also don't want to get a rubbish neck. Anyone used any of these (what I believe are Mighty Mite) necks ? ..... http://www.ebay.co.u...d=p5197.c0.m619
Or any other suggestions ?
Or anyone want to swap a good fretted Jazz neck for a quality ebony board, half lined fretless neck ?
HAve you considered a direct swap with 'guitaradam'.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/203834-where-to-buy-fretless-necks/
