  1. I've had a torrid time with my wood-necked basses recently. Took me a while to work out it was the suddenness of the hot dry weather. Same as the OP: they just would not stay in tune long enough to play a a song. Started to play about with the set ups on them, gave up after nothing would work.
Got my Steinberger out-composite neck, no wood- no problem.
As for string height, I don't bother with any measuring with anything. I just get the string height to where I want it and then make sure the strings are not buzzing to much. Note that I do like a little fretbuzz so a little may be too much for some.

  2. Bass Direct have no more 600's. So I got a 900.2 instead. Go me. £499 delivered early next week. If you don't have the funds right now, give them a call, they might hold one for you. I found them very helpful. And as I found the GB focus 4x10 cabs to be well put together I have no worries over any QC problems.

  3. Would that be the 150w (with Carlsbro rounding up the numbers) version ? I had the later green one, sold it. A few years later bought another one. Had to replace the volume pot but couldn't find the correct value pot to put in it. Ended up putting a very low value pot in it and it sounded awesome. Best fuzz box I've ever had. Don't know what became of it. I spent a lot of time on the internet looking for one recently. If one came up for sale I would go for it. Used my original one with the matching 2x12 ported cab, that was heavy. To the OP, stick a decent speaker in there and that will be a tidy amp that costs the same as a few sets of strings. Tidy find.

  4. Never really thought about it but looking at photos from years ago I was usually stage right. Could end up any side if the headliners bassist kindly offered me the use of his rig for the gig though.
One gig at the Marquee with The Grip the singer and guitar player insisted they have more room than me. I missed out on using Willies' SVT and 8x10 stack. Yeah, whatever guys.
One thing I realised is that most of the singers did stay well out of my way. I was using a set of bass pedals a lot of the time and lots of backing vocals so they knew I wouldn't be watching them if they got too close

Thanks. I got a 12'' of 'Fighting for the earth' by Warrior. (awful) It was purchased 2nd hand. Looked ok(clear with space image)
I just didn't know how to display it

Why don't you smash up the vinyl? All the broken pieces will then have the complete image in all the little bits. Make some shape ( getting a bit Blue Peter here) and frame it, put a light in front of it so you can see it better and then think "Why did I bother?".

  6. In answer to to BigRedX above. I'm a small chap, I just can't get on with a larger bass. Even played headless basses for a long time. One thing that I find interesting though, I had an Ibanez 4001 copy and that was a joy to play. Light, comfortable, lovely neck. When I got a Ric I found it was just wrong for, just gutted. And I do love that Ric tone. And they look the dogs as well.

  7. Loved the album when it came out. So disappointed with the clipping. Have only listened to PBTHAL's remaster for the last few years. Was not sure about getting the remaster until I listened to that Rolling Stone stream. Pre-ordered my vinyl copy. Just bustin' to hear it through my system.

  8. I had one with the blocky logo on the headstock. '84 sounds right. Candy Apple Red, put a chrome scratchplate on it. Would buy one again for sure. If yours plays like mine did you have a fine bass at a good price I reckon.
