1. My 2002 lefty, recently bought it back and it had really been neglected. A good clean, new machine heads, battery box and assorted screws and a setup
and it's just about as good as new.

Very happy to have it back, sounds lovely, so much so that I can't remember why I sold it in the first place!

2. Saw him opening for the Chili Peppers in Cardiff, must have been 2004 or so. They were very good, he was great! Had no idea he was going
to be playing, it was such an awesome surprise to walk in just as he got his set underway.
Think he was 70 odd but you'd never have known it, he was still one hell of a showman.

3.
I dont think I've ever heard of any child learning how to tie shoelaces in classes.....Parents usually teach their kids that.
I'm honestly amazed at what parents don't teach their children, I know several people who work in main stream primary education and every September they encounter children who cant dress, feed themselves or go to the toilet on their own. My wife works with secondary school children and last year they had a new starter, eleven years old, they had to cut his dinner up for him as he had no experience of using a knife and fork!

As for giving every child the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, I couldn't be more in favour of it. The possible academic and social benefits that come with learning music should be available to all children should they wish to try.

I had no opportunity at primary level, secondary level music lessons were no better, we spent three years copying classical composer's biogs from text books to our workbooks in strict silence. Our hands on experience was occasionally getting to learn something like the theme to eastenders on a tiny keyboard using numbers to reference the keys. I honsetly think our music teacher truly hated what she did, refused to teach us to read music when we asked and also wouldn't arrange lessons that we were more than willing to pay for.

I was talking to a music teacher at a college a few years ago who asked where I'd gone to school, he then asked about the music teacher, I told him exactly how little she tried and that she seemed to have nothing but contempt for music and her pupils. Got a little awkward when he told me she was his wife but I hope he passed on the gist of it.

4. I would go for the bass first, lessons will go much better if you can play between them, working on what you've learned.

As for the bass second hand might be the way to go, there are some amazing bargains to be had on this site and most members REALLY look after their gear, looking through the ads makes me almost feel lucky to be left handed, Id be broke snapping up some of stuff for sale otherwise.

I'd also get down to the biggest music store local to you and get a feel the sort bass you prefer, especially in terms of neck profile, eg chunkier precision neck or slimmer jazz style. As well as the sound and weight of the bass. A precision variant is always a nice place to start because they're so versatile musically.

5. Trying to get my Stingray into as new condition and need to replace the battery box, Strings and Things have
everything I need parts wise but I'm not sure which battery box I need.

They list two on their site and request that you email them a picture of your battery box in order to
determine which you need, trouble is they havent responded to emails and on the phone were
even less helpful.

That's mine from my 2002 lefty Ray, Strings and Things list a new and an old style box without photos or any information on how they differ.

Anyone got any idea which one I need?

6. When I'd previously played a Stingray, I think my inexperience and cack handedness meant I was one of those players playing a Ray and not doing it justice. My playing has come on a lot since then and I've really tried to get into new genres and master new techniques and I'm finding the sound much more to my liking this time round.

Mine is a weighty beast with a nice chunky neck and the build quality is great, the bass just feels so reassuringly solid and well put together, I certainly couldn't be happier with the fit and finish.

7. I found a Stingray I'd sold a few years ago on these very boards. I'd ordered it new in '02, black/black/maple. I remarked to my OH that I was sure it was mine, then I remembered I'd registered on the EB forum to get the date of manufacture, dug up my old post and confirmed the serial.
Wasn't quite in the mint condition the ad claimed, needs a replacement machine head, for some reason has a screw missing from the pickup and the battery box needs replacing, I'll be dropping it off at a good local luthier tomorrow.

It still plays and looks lovely and I'm really, really happy to have it back :)
