Yeahhh Aberdeens a nightmare. Everytime I go out I find a different road closed. “Thankfully” we only seem to gig Krakatoa (aka the moorings) so I just park in the NCP 2 mins away. 15 quid for an average gig is a bit of a stinger like.
How was the gig?
Gig was good, not a huge crowd but they were up for it. Sound engineer was good - efficient sound check and great on stage sound. Backline was fried (an ancient Ashdown Mag and Trace cab that was once a combo and had electrical tape securing the amp/cab connection). Hence me trundling my own gear in

Did you not get to use the car park at Drummonds? Admittedly it's not ideal because it's several floors below the bar itself, but at least it's nearby.
Nope. Every time I tried to get close to Drummonds I hit a pedestrian only zone or a no right hand turn. Ended up parked in Bon Accord.

Glasgow is the same and now the council in their wisdom have decided to extend the parking meters form 6 pm till 10 pm and it costs a bloomin fortune to park on the street. The now closed Hard Rock cafe on Buchanan st was the same. no access to the front after 10 am and you couldn`t get access to the front until after 7 pm.
Still that`s no longer a problem as the feckers let the staff know on Tuesday that the venue wouldn`t be opening and if punters wanted to try their overprice fair there was one in Edinburgh!
I've played the Glasgow HRC a few times (and we had 2 bookings for this year which now seems to be off as per your comment about it closing suddenly this week). I've had to wheel my amp from Bath street in the rain.

Ah yes.....you seem to have experienced the joys of Aberdeen traffic planning department who seem to be permanently on drugs! 😠 The assignment of bus gates and LEZ change monthly now I think just to confuse people and allow them to hand out fines for the poor council coffers. Where was your gig? (Glad it was a good one)
Gig was in Drummonds on Belmont Street.
We reckon 2 of the band members will be getting traffic violation fines after trying to deal with the impossible restrictions.

What's with the cab that can wobble most venues on their foundations? I'd be travelling lighter and using a collapsing hand cart.
BTII cab is actually pretty easy to kick back and wheel around

Tonight I'd like to thank Aberdeen City Council for their traffic policies which afforded me the opportunity to carry this lot from the gig venue back to my hotel room in the pissing rain - in two trips. Unable to use my (electric, zero emissions I might add) vehicle because there's no freaking way to get a car anywhere that doesn't involve a bus gate, closed road, one way street or a pedestrian zone. Got back to the hotel just in time for the bar to shut. Absolutely perfect.
Gig was good though.

Decided to pull the trigger on this Vintera II today.
Picked up secondhand at GG for about £250 less than the new price but it's still got the cellophane on the pickguard and neck plate. We are getting used to each other this evening. Initial impressions are very good : super easy to play, wide range of tones. Nice and light, my back and shoulders will thank me after long gigs. I'm feeling like it needs a lighter right hand touch than my long scale basses. Have ordered a set of LaBella 760F-MUS strings.
Rehearsal tomorrow so will see how it fits into a band setting.

Selling on behalf of my son who has now got himself a P Bass.
2010 model according to the Ernie Ball database.
We gave it a slight visual tweak with a pearloid scratch plate and white pickup cover (both were originally black).
Couple of slight dinks in the finish (nothing through to the wood) but in great overall shape. Nice low action. Based in Edinburgh, happy to host a tryout over a coffee but can meet up in Central belt.
Any questions, just shout. No case I'm afraid but will sort something out if buyer wants to arrange postage.
**Edit - to answer a question received over PM - weight on bathroom scales is 9.5lbs**

Thanks all, looks like there's a couple of solid contenders here to try out.

Hi all, looking for an amp for my son.
I'm fortunate enough to have three amp setups (home, rehearsals, and gigs) and my son has been able to borrow these as required.
Trouble is he's going away to Uni and will now need his own amp for the same 3 scenarios : silent practice, rehearsals and gigs.
Is there a single solution that you could recommend that would fit the bill?
Spec would need to include:
Aux In (or Bluetooth)
Headphones
Enough headroom for his MM Stingray
Enough volume for rehearsals and gig backline.
Handles FX ok.
DI out.
Ideally a combo but let's not rule out separates.
Reasonably portable (I remember dragging a Peavey TKO around in my youth, not fun).
Budget : £450 (either new or S/H).
Looking forward to suggestions/recommendations.

Still no takers.
One last bump before I take this down at the weekend.

Hi all, have reduced price for one last try to see if this sells. Anybody got a big birthday coming up in the new year wanting a YOB bass?

***11 Sept : Pricedrop from £2600 to £2350***
***30 Sept : Final Price drop to £2250***
Listed earlier in the year but withdrew the ad when I went on holibobs...have also listened to what the market is telling me about price and adjusted accordingly!
Was my main gigging bass for a few years but now the (lighter) Deakey P bass is getting all the action.
Ash body with a really vibrant sunburst, nice dark rosewood fingerboard.
Strung with Ernie Ball flats and a new foam strip is fitted under the original bridge ashtray. Lovely low action with no buzz. It really plays a dream.
There's a small repair to the scratchplate at the jack end - it had cracked at the end, professionally done using a small black washer for a discrete fix.
Has Schaller straplocks fitted, the originals are included.
The pickup cover is a genuine Fender replacement part.
Tone pot is a replacement.
B width neck. A shade under 10lbs on the bathroom scales.
Non original Fender case included. Happy to field any questions. No trades thanks.

Last update. Gig last night in a good sized venue with proper power supplies (no 4 way extension boards here!) and LED lighting. Quiet as a mouse.
2.5 hour set straight through no issues.
Phew.
It's a keeper - but, as per chat here, it probably shouldn't be reacting so badly to electrical interference the way it does in my house - so will see if Ashdown can take it for a service once gigs settle down.
It also sounds lush through the Big Twin.
Thanks all.

Hi all - quick update. Went back to GG today, plugged the amp in - reasonably quiet. When cranked there was a degree of hiss but nothing unexpected for an amp of this size and nothing like I was getting at home.
Conclusion - there's something environmental in my house that this amp doesn't like. Could be the transformer based lighting, electrical interference, dodgy wiring, who knows.
As ever, GG Edinburgh have been great, they are still holding my old amp for me until I've had a rehearsal and a gig this weekend in case i have any issues.
If the amp is ok in a live venue then it's a keeper.
Will report back after the weekend.
Once the gig season settles I will probably send to Ashdown for a full service regardless after reading the good things about the aftersales here.
Thanks all.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the 12-band head doesn’t have a valve I believe?
Yeah there's no valve drive control on the MK500 (unless it's inside and always on?)
A Few Questions to all Short-Scale Bassists.

Last night I played for about 2.5 hours.
Played mostly on the short scale Mustang - then (because I just fancied a change) played the last 30 mins using the regular scale Deakey P bass. Sooooo, to answer your specific questions...
Q1 - Picked up the Mustang, played without thinking I was playing anything different or unusual. When I swapped to the P bass it felt MASSIVE! Body, neck everything felt HUGE for a couple of songs before the muscle memory came back. So my challenge wasn't about going from long scale to short scale - it was about how odd the return journey to long scale felt!
Q2 - never noticed any neck dive on the Mustang - but (like others say) I'm using a Mono grippy strap which probably helps.
Gratuitous photo of my brood attached with zero justification or relevance to your questions...
