sounds a little muddy tone wise to me expect when it's all DarkGlassie on the first section and during the tapping example, I guess I expected a much brighter sound from such a modern looking bass?

i agree im not blown away, i expected a little more zing in the top end, be nice to see how the classic compares tonally, still wanna try one though.

Bet the multi-scale Ibby's do 95% of the job at 30% of the price.. The 5% being the aesthetics...

It's not about the multiscale or asthetics for me, I can take em or leave em generally, it's all about that neck profile.

It's a different beast entirely if it works as it does on guitar.

I'm not interested in any other basses, I've already got the traditional bass covered.  I don't think you can directly compare one of these with anything else on the market.

That being said they are still too bloody expensive lol.

Those out there who were mad keen on getting one, is that still the case now it's over £3k and made in Indonesia? I appreciate they're offering something pretty special if that's the flavour of special you like.

I was intending to jump in and just get one based on my experience with the guitars (I would never go back to a traditionaldesign ) but at 3k I need to play it first before shelling out that much. I want to make sure the benefits translate to a bigger instrument, I'm still very keen , if it works as well I think it will be worth the money in the long run.

The figure in my head was 2.5k max but I was hoping it might be a little less.

I need to get my hands on one .

Again on cost, preamp aside, the standard uses roasted birdseye maple as a fretboard, which must cost more than standard ebony.  Other than the brown stain, those represent the extent of the differences, so the prices should be very close if not the same?

We shall see, not really too much point speculating at the moment, they may be the same, the prog may be more, we will find out in a couple of weeks. It does depend on the quality of the ebony and maple, ebony without lighter streaks has gone up a large amount in the last few years due to logging laws. Tbh I'm not bothered, if that neck profile works as well on the bass as the guitar version it will be money well spent in my eyes. hopefully there won't be too much between them though.

Weight puts me off, I’ve never owned a super lightweight bass that can hold a candle to a heavier counterpart for depth of tone,

i was the same before getting my Xylem which is a tone monster and only 6.75lb (about 3kg)

i agree though generally most lightweight basses i have tried do seem to lack something.

Tone wise it’s nothing special or unique, prog model should be cheaper as it has a lower priced pre in it, but I bet it won’t be!  It’s all going to be on playability for me. And yeah, the price will have to come in favourable to Dingwall to challenge that market.  I’m more interested in why it has taken so long to come out and spent so long in the prototype stage.

i agree tone wise, you know what you are getting with nordstrand/darkglass stuff so its all about that that endurneck.

is the darkglass pre cheaper than the nordstrand one? cant be much in it can there, the pickups are (slightly) more expensive in the prog and a decent piece of ebony is generally more expensive than the maple board on the classic so i would expect it to be a little more overall.

its the first endurneck for a bass so i would expect that to be the biggest factor in the design and testing stage, the original endurneck has been tweaked over the years and the current standard is a little different to my 3 year old os6 so im glad they are taking the time because its THE most important thing in making this product stand out from the crowd.

Am hoping they come up with a six-string version. This is similar to Dingwall Super scale which is my preference.

It does say starting line-up 4 and 5 string versions implying that there is more to follow, considering the stock guitars go up to 8 string I'm sure there will be a 6, I'm curious to see if they stretch to a 7 at some point though.

  8. With my os6 guitar i felt that the scale difference was there to aid erganomics primarily instead of bieng all about string tension and it feels very natural, you dont really notice the fan but it eases some finger strain in the upper registers and makes t hings very comfortable.

Im hoping the bass has a similar feel.

Anything saucy happening with electronics do we know? Need more reasons to GAS before the pricing s**ts roundly on the currently appealing fantasy...

They seem to have tried a few different preamp and pickup options with the prototype, definitely seen a darkglass tone capsule and nordstrand & bartolini pickups so far, itll be interesting to see the final specs.
