1. It's easy to get dragged into this.

We just had our new album mastered by Jon Astley - pretty much re-mastered every big band - Led Zep Remasters, The Who, Rolling Stones. You name it he'll probably have done it.

We agreed that the loudness war is killing music and we decided to master our rock album to early 90s level. I'm more than happy that we managed to retain our dynamics even if the album is quieter than modern stuff, who cares! This hugely loud stuff has no dynamics and is tiring to listen to. Everybody has a volume control on their stereo and can turn it up if it's not loud enough.

For what it's worth, this is the volume that he recommended, and who were we to disagree ;)

  2. Couple more vids someone just sent me from the same gig. nice quality too

Jeremy - Pearl Jam - with 12 string

Black Hole Sun (with excruciating bass mistake - I hate playing this song :) )

  3. Make sure they are in phase though.

If you get less bottom end with both the signals on then they are out of phase.

I find the bass POD to be an excellent device for recording and available on ebay for £50 ish. I use this, unless it's going to be a released recording when I mic and DI my amp.

For demos the Bass POD is more than good enough

  4. We do Over My Head, Cult of Personality, Love Rears Up.

As well as 90s grunge stuff - AIC, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. And some Janes Addiction and a bit of Fishbone.

It goes down very well if you get the right venue. Otherwise, people look a bit bemused watching a covers band where only the band knows the covers :)

It's a stop gap until we get our originals band 300ft Gorilla up and running again.

  5. Saw Fishbone on Saturday night, who were fantastic as always. Had a chat with Norwood afterwards

Here is playing his Thumb Bass, also played his Infinity NT 5 too during the gig

And a couple of weeks earlier Kings X played a killer set at the same venue, and I got Mr Pinnick to sign my 12 string Hamer.

Inspirational stuff from 2 bands who should be more famous than they are

  6. Don't know if this is the right forum for clips but here's a couple of vids from our last gig

    Open Letter by Living Colour

Dogman by Kings X and Filter's Hey Man nice Shot on 12 String Hamer (gig debut)

  7. My covers band, Dogman, are playing Trillians in Newcastle on Friday.

We'll be doing covers by all the best alt/rock bands of the early 90s - Pearl Jam/Living Colour/Fishbone/Kings X/Filter/AIC/Nirvana/Soundgarden etc etc

Entry is free and we'll be on from around 9pm.

Should be the first chance I get to use my new 12 string live too :)

  8. A bit mysterious still....

I've spoken to Ticketweb, who confirm that my tickets are still valid for the event. However, they are not selling any more at the moment. It is not sold out, and it has not been cancelled or postponed as far as they are aware. The guy just said keep trying the site over the next few weeks. He also said, because I have tickets they'll let me know straight away if it's been cancelled, so I will update on here if that happens.

Maybe they're waiting for the promoter to pay the deposit on the room?

Reminds me of the time they re-scheduled a Newcastle gig as they were rumoured not have been allowed through customs after their previous gig in Amsterdam :)

  9. Cheers. I ended up getting the Warwick Infinity after a chat with Norwood in 2008 - I've been using a thumb NT 5 for about 20 years - just before I saw Norwood using the same at the Riverside - I'd been unable to find another bass that had the mid range punch of the Thumb but with a more rounded tone - tried Streamers and hated them. Norwood suggested trying an Infinity and then he used one at the gig that night - I was blown away by the sound.

    Amp is a Thunderfunk with 2 x 90s Trace cabs (2x10 and 4x10)

We are considering getting a couple of mates to do horns and try and do another Fishbone track at next one. Trouble is Fishbone tracks are so difficult to arrange without keyboards and 3 vocalists. Also trying to work out what's going on in those tracks isn't always straight forward :)

To get back on topic, I'm going to try and speak to the Ncle academy about what's happening with this gig as I need another couple of tickets for some mates coming over from the US.

    I'll keep you posted

  10. Some stuff from our last Trillians gig here http://www.youtube.com/dogmanband

And one of Sunless Saturday that one of our audience took from the same gig

  11.
Yes, gutted that I won't be able to get to see King's X as the wife is due to give birth that week. Boo. Dogman sounds interesting though!
I believe it's free entry. We'll be doing 90s alt - Alice in Chains, janes Addiction, Kings X, Fishbone, Living Colour, Pearl Jam etc.

    :)

I saw Fishbone in Leeds 2008 (as well as in the early 90s). Awesome gig.
