Better Lovers in Brighton last night - it's 3/5 of Every Time I Die, with producer Will Putney on guitar and ex-Dillinger Escape Plan singer Greg Puciato on vocals
Superb - seriously tight and put on a great show. Wasn't a long set - 35ish minutes as they've only released four songs so far and played those along with three new ones and a cover of Soundgarden's Rusty Cage
Really looking forward to the full album and hoping to be back at the same venue in March for Greg's solo tour

It may be a good thing.
The press release implies you'll be able to put your music forward for sync opportunities, but how this would work in reality is beyond me.
I like bandcamp a great deal, but the way users engage with it is changing. As my sales dwindle, my complete plays increase massively, so it seems more people are using it as a streaming service.
I use it as a pay per album streaming service, could download the albums I've bought, but never have.
Hopefully this new take-over, after the Epic one won't have any issues but I may need to re-evaluate the not downloading if starts going wrong

Bono's performance isn't great is it?
I'd love to see what Tool would do with something on that scale

Been listening to the complete Mutoid Man discography ahead of seeing them tomorrow night

Pretty decent, 50th birthday party in a social club, so went exactly as you'd expect it to.
Had a slight issue with my slimmed down pedal board, I think a connection came loose at one point so I went silent. No drama, just by-passed the pedal board and went straight into the amp until there was a moment to re-jig.
However what it did highlight is what an integral part of my sound the TC Spectracomp is. Without it, the sound was thinner and lacked some umph, turning on my EBS amp's built in compressor was no comparison either. Just set to 12:00 on the default tone-print brought out some very pleasing frequencies and filled out the sound.
It's remarkable how good the Spectracomp is, particularly for a one-knob pedal at it's price point

More manufacturers to have a paint shop like G&L - all those finish options, available to order in whichever combination of wood, colour and pickguard you want.
Instead of short runs of very limited colours - you can't buy an American Precision in red at the moment, that seems nuts.

Seems like i haven't mentioned yet that I actually got a doom/stoner rock project going myself, named "all I nil".
A solo project where the core main instrumentation will be a tenor bass (that is a bass tuned to A standard tuning, like the 4 upper strings on a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning), programmed/played via a weighted keys midi keyboard drums/percussion, and then vocals, with some additional, more flavor oriented, programmed and physically played instrumentation added from other instruments.
So far I got 7 more, but mostly less, traditional stoner/doom regular songs, and then an additional 4 more folky instrumentals, where almost all the bass parts and the form of the songs is in place, that just needs to be recorded down and then having drums and additional instrumentation added.
This is the "amp-less" setup that I use for this project:
But planning to an EHX Attack Decay, an EHX Freeze at some point, as well as a TC Electronic Ditto X4 looper, and then possibly an EHX Bass9 (to be able to play lower than A1), and possibly some of the other EHX 9 pedals as well, mainly interested in the B9, Mel9 and Synth9.
And I should add treating my tenor bass as sort of a hybrid bass/guitar in terms of how and what I play on it, as well as I make use of a slide, obviously for slide guitar/steel guitar like stuff, and a mallet, used to play dulcimer like stuff.
My Ibanez GSRM20 neck + GSRM20B body Mikro Bass, that I named "Dud Bottomfeeder" , with the stick pickups pulled out, replaced with just one EMG Geezer Butler P pickup, wired directly to the output jack socket, the stock side mounted barrel type one having been pulled out and replaced for a front mounted regular jack socket, and tuned to tenor bass, A standard, tuning :
Sounds like a great project, I'd be particularly interested to hear the dulcimer like parts

Steve's quite active on social media, you could try contacting him and seeing if he still has a copy of the original review

I'm convinced there's certain guitarists, bassists and drummers who have learned a decent number of Megadeth songs to be ready for when Dave inevitably fires someone else

I was actually chatting to a mate about this yesterday. In hindsight, The Burning Red is a much better album than its reputation would suggest and, apart from some unfortunate rapping, isn't really a Nu-Metal album at all. It has aged well.
Supercharger, however, definitely is 😆
On The Burning Red, Rob asks you to "watch me fall" definitely nu-metal 😁
And yes, agreed about Supercharger

The title of this thread included "...by bands who should know better" nu metal bands wouldn't have been nu metal if they knew better.
Machine Head weren't really nu metal but Robb Flynn is an absolute tool
Machine Head as a rule aren't nu-metal, but The Burning Red absolutely is.
I did hear a story that they'd not planned to record the cover, but were jamming it in the studio and Ross Robinson persuaded them to put it on the album

Couldn't agree more though these bands wouldn't have known better as they're c@ck. Nu-metal was one of the lowest points in music along with the all those post grunge bands though these genres are interchangeable . The Disturbed cover is just too painfully earnest/earnestly painful. Then there's that atrocious take on Smooth Criminal.
Oh, I quite like the Smooth Criminal cover, partly because it's fun and also because it is very nostalgic for me - I was exactly the right age when it came out
-
There's a number of nu-metal bands who did some awful, earnest covers
Disturbed - The Sound Of Silence
Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes
Machine Head - Message In A Bottle

I really like this Capdown live album, it really captures their energy with (or so the liner notes claim) no overdubs

I've just thought, back when I was in a Melod-death band, the guitarists were in drop B, but I just played in B standard as I'm not a fan of drop tunings.
Made for some awkward fingerings (and who hasn't in their youth?) But I preferred that to the intervals shifting and messing with my head

I know what you mean. I've not bothered with much in C because my 4 string won't go that low and my 5 won't go that high.
I like Carcass because they tuned to B, so it's easy on a five string
But most metal seems to be in C or C# tuning, which is just a pain.
Or modern stuff which is super down tuned to low F#/drop E where the bass is almost pointless

Are non standard tunings common outside of hard Rock and metal? I'm constantly changing tunings anywhere between drop A and E standard for metal covers but if I try anything like soul, pop or reggae it is almost always in E standard tuning.
So many metal songs I've never learned as I can't be fecked with messing about with tunings, even on a five string

Can you get pantomime gigs in December? A drummer friend made his most regular income for the year in November/December playing pantos

It is certainly one of my favourites and it introduced my to Julie Christmas and her excellent band Made Out Of Babies.
I particularly enjoy this live version of Mariner
I did see them play Mariner in full in 2016, best gig I've ever seen

Starting with a song that just blows my mind, and incredible vocal performance and a brilliant piece of heavy music
Reflection to the soundtrack of a song which I just love. Beautifully dark.
Departure to something much more upbeat. My favourite punk record of all time with a bass line I could never play.

I love Mariner so much, quite possibly my favourite album of all time
