  1. Slightly bemused at some of the comments on here regarding the actual band.

I grew up with them and on the early albums were many cracking rock songs. The next few were amazing blends of rock, pop and ambitious and at the time very unique adventurous songs which included many world wide hit singles.

They then became, at the time, the biggest band in the world selling millions of albums and singles and performing live to literally millions around the world. I saw many of those concerts and there was no one live to touch their shows in those days.

Then just when everyone thought they were yesterday's news along came Live Aid and the slot they did is legendary.

All four wrote some amazing songs that have all stood the test of time.

I sometimes wonder what a band has to do to impress some people !!

  2. Not playing live much myself at the moment so getting the chance to see more live music and the noise level ranges from too loud to stupidly loud !!

Saw a band last year in a pub where the bassist had an ampeg 8 by 10 cab and the guitarist a full " Ritchie Blackmore" sized Marshall stack !! Literally nearly knocked me over when they hit the first bar of the first song.

It's starting to put me off going to live music venues rather than attracting me to them !!

    Rant over, my apologies.

  3. Used to play it in my old band and always loved playing it. A sure fire audience winner as well.

Being saying for a couple of years now that one day Dire Straits will hop on the " reunion tour" bandwagon and I would certainly be up for a few hours of nostalgia.

Listened to Alchemy at the weekend, cracking live album.

I am so far of the pace as I have never heard of a single one of them :-(

  5. Long story short, my mate's 60th birthday treat last night from me and Debs was to see Francis Dunnery at the Wardrobe in Leeds.

He's quite in to It Bites and she likes his solo stuff. I have never heard any of it but what a cracking gig.

Brilliant songs played superbly with a wide variation and very entertaining banter in between with a great rapport with the audience

Payed about £75 for three tickets and was the best value for money gig wise I think I have ever spent

Not seen or heard of him ?? Go see him. A true talent and seems like a very nice bloke.

    Well recommended.

No. It's one of those things that sounds like it shouldn't work but does. I have a couple in my house. They plug into to mains sockets and actually use the mains wiring to send your connection that way. It means everything is wired (which I prefer to wireless), but without having to have loads of cabling round the house. The boxes have Cat5 on the end to connect your devices.

I see. This may help us though to hard wire up to our skybox. Must look in to this soon.

nowadays for band stuff our banjolele player uses just the 'brain' and kick drum from a Roland leccy drum kit and it sounds huge!

I had a Roland TD3 set up about a year ago and had that idea with another kick pedal plugged in to the snare socket but never thought I would use it so sold it :-(

  8. Has anyone posted their own personal favourite settings on the Jamup site ?? If so if wonder if it is possible to set up something like a "user group" to share sounds ?? Whilst it's fun to play around with the sounds it would also be good to have a group of fellow basschatters suggesting their recommendations.

  9. Nice looking bass. What is it ??
