1. Ok, here we go again, i'm putting up my 2 Kingbasses for sale, 1st is my Retroglide, i had this built for me to the same specs that Mark King has his " all the bells and whistles" its about 10 months old has had light use and is in excellent condition. it comes with its original hard case which is also in excellent condition. i'm looking for £2400. 2nd up is my Black Beauty. This is the Prototype (23) built for Mark King, which he used live. it comes with paper work signed by Rob Green and Mark King to confirm the authenticity, the bass is also signed by Mark on the back plate. again this comes with the original hard case. the bass is still in great condition with only the scuff marks from fingernails near the g string ( where the popping takes place) and is really only visible on close inspection. Being a prototype and used by Mark King i'm looking for £3000 for this one. please PM me if you want any more details. thanks, James.
 2.
Hey James - man, it sounds like he has been nicking my jokes again. - Only joking, I think he has a fair few sources of jokes! Did he tell you the scuba diver joke. It's so purile, it's amusing. Bernie has been playing Laurence's live disk quite a bit - you can actually download the album for free at the moment from http://laurencecottle.com/buy/ and the track he probably played you is "quite firm". Bernie's stuff was very polished - did he play you his function band stuff or his fusion guitar stuff - that stuff was mad! As for Bernie and guitar - yup, it's quite rare for a luthier to be as accomplished a player as Bernie is. His chord knowledge is pretty good in my book. I thought you had a permanent power source in your Rumour already? A 9v jack socket? I must ask Bernie for that for my next Rumour as that is going to be an all out stage bass. Yeah - the new blue bass is sensational... ultimate funkster! And don't you reckon the photographs don't catch how great that colour really is. I'm glad you have seen it up close and personal so to speak!
Hi, don't remember the scuba diver one, but i'm sure there was one about a guy who ate so much curry he fell into a korma !??! i'm sure thats Bob Monkhouses big book of jokes that got stolen! i heard a bit of the live Cottle stuff, and some stuff that were short bursts, about 30 seconds long. very cool! thanks for the tip on the Cottle albums, downloading right now! Yes there is a power source already, but it was a "quick fix" at the time, Bernie and Dick have come up with a better solution. The Blue bass is very nice and fits in with the idea i had, different colours tho. i saw your order on the board, gonna be very cool! James.
 3. Just had a thoroughly enjoyable trip down to see Bernie! He set up my Spitfire "switch" with the old school p bass sound on one position, and the GB hi fi sound on the other, and he's going to put a permanent power source into my Rumour for the LED's (should save on the battery costs)! Had a good chat about all things bass, heard a few jokes from his book, nice cup of tea, and listened to some music. he played me some amazing Laurence Cottle stuff, and also some of his own stuff from the early 80's, which sounds like it could be in the charts right now imho. i also took the opportunity to play him some demo's from my forthcoming solo project, featuring my GB's of course! and he's gonna play some guitar on one of my tracks, (hopefully) which he was jamming to in the shop . i tell ya, the guys a mean guitar player! also got a chance to see the all over Blue rumour featured a bit earlier in this post, amazing! and incredibly light. i need to get my name back on his list of builds b4 it gets any longer! James.
This bass, I think, is the best looking solid colour GB I have ever seen. In the flesh, it's ridiculous... the blue metallic really jumps out at ya. By the way... it's coming to the midlands. ...and no. It's not me. ...sadly.
4.
So you planning to go 100% GB? Now there's a move. I'm nearly there! I like to keep one non GB for the trashy venues What are you thinking of for your next GB then? Vegas - cool man. Have you been there before? Where are you staying? My top tip is that you book a ticket to see the Cirque du Soleil show "O" at the Bellagio. It will blow your mind. Make sure you get it in advance though - the tickets are hot and sell out pretty quickly. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_(Cirque_du_Soleil)
Well, i've got a specific idea for the next GB, its actually based on a car i used to have, won't say to much more right now, i may have a word with Bernie about it tomorrow and see what he thinks. Never been to Vegas, spent some time in Reno and Lake Tahoe at the casino's , so definatley looking forward to it. Staying at Treasure Island as its central on the strip and was a good deal. would love to check out a Cirque du soleil show, i'll have a look online about tickets, Thanks. gonna check out Ed Romans Guitar shop too , looks pretty cool. James.
 5.
Don't think I will be around this time... but it would be good to meet up and talk rubbish and basses at some point. Hows the selling of the Statii going?
There's been a bit of interest, but I don't think the current climate is helping! I'm not pushing them too much, would be quite happy to keep hold of them, just means I'll have to wait a bit longer b4 my next GB! Still, I'm off to vegas in a few weeks, maybe I'll be lucky and win the money for my next bass. Would be great to have a GB meet up soon. James.
 6. I'm gonna try and get down to see Bernie at the end of the week with my two. If anyones about. James.

 8. Cooooooool! That's another one for the shopping list! Would love to see it when finished, plus your other gb's too! Going back to the spitfire and pickups, I'm working on an album of bass driven instrumentals, (hopefully will get on to iTunes later in the year) and I'm so taken with the sound of the single coils that I'm gonna rerecord most of the parts with the spitfire! J.
 9. A GB guitar? I need to know more!!!!!! J.
 10.
All in good time my man. I'll probably lob some pictures up tonight. The single coils are certainly a different sound. A slap monster. I understand why James D went for them in his Spitfire. The switch position is quite interesting also - in the up position, it's pretty much like a regular Rumour in the down "hi fi position" and in the down position, it's proper old school. Having a look at the circuit at the back, it looks like some caps have been put in to take all the top end out and give it a super p bass thud tone. Don't know what to make of it at the moment - I'll have take it out on a few gigs to make my mind up!
Lovely bass! Your right about the single coils, they're a bit of a revalation to me! I've still got to get my switch sorted, it's just a volume boost at the mo, was thinking of going for the hi fi sound on one and old school on the other. My status basses are getting a bit scared, I'm tempted to go GB 100%, a 5 string is on my shopping list now. J.
 11. Guess i can put these here now too, and here with my Rumour, James.
 12. Picked her up this evening and..........WOW , another masterpiece from Mr. Goodfellow. First impressions, incredibly well balanced and comfortable to hold, stunning to look at , lots of detail to take in, first class workmanship (as if it would be any less than perfect) and an incredible array of tones to call upon. and here with my Rumour, James.
 13.
Hi, the bass looks stunning, though am i the only one amazed by the build time, or am i missing something?
It's been very quick really, although we'd been discussing it since the begining of the year, I only agreed the wood choices at the end of sept, so just under 4 months for the build! James.
 14.
i want one of them there shirts, has Bernie got some?
He certainly has, I got mine a few weeks ago. J.
 15. more than welcome! Not sure on a time yet, all depends on Bernie, he's waiting on some new super duper pick ups!? Probly late afternoon, I'll let you know! J.
 16. Well, its almost done, hopefully will pick her up on Tuesday (a nice early xmas present (to myself)! ) Bernie was kind enough to send me some pics to tide me over the weekend. He has stressed that they are not great photo's due to the lighting, and is even more beautiful in person. i've decided to go without LED's (for now) . oh, and a bit of t shirt porn too, Come on Tuesday!!! James.
 17.
I've done gigs with both. Both will give you what you need... I prefer the TD650 just for that extra headroom and the fact that the buttons light up - as Ferret points out.
Totally agree! i could'nt believe my ears when i tried some ebs stuff at Bernie Goodfellow's work shop, i immediateley sold my Ashdown gear and got the td650 with 4x10 and 1x15 neo cabs. Best set up i've ever had, and also the best bass sound in the studio when i DI it! James.
 18.
cant wait, we need a GB bash when shes done!
That sounds like a great idea! would love to meet some other GB players! James.
 19. Yup, Buckeye burl facing, ash body and ebony and birdseye maple (bookmatched) for the neck. mmmmmm....nice thanks for all the comments so far! James.
 20. Right, went down to see Bernie this morning, and took a few snaps of the bass so far, i'm very very very very very very very very very very very very excited!!:D:D Here's what it looked like last time, i'd been quite specific as to what i wanted , and i think Bernie has excelled!! And here is the progress, its still rough sawn, but i think its gonna be stunning!! the thru neck is almost there, Bernie has used Ebony for the splices, as well as the fret board , a lovely jet black, this is a first for a GB !! to give you an idea with knobs and hardware, JUst look at this wood, its outrageous! only a matter of weeks now, i'm gonna get led's , not decided on colour yet, and i'm going to try some single coil p/ups, which can be changed if i don't get on with them. James.
 21. Whats the lead time on GB's at the mo then? James.
 22. Thanks, thats the effect i was going for. When i first discussed it with Bernie, i don't think he was to keen, but now we've got the ball rolling he seems as excited as me! Will hopefully get down there next week to pick up my Rumour (Bernie and Dick are trying to sort me out a permenent power source for the LED's, running the power down the cable). so will be able to discuss the next phase of the Spitfire, got some interesting ideas for the thru neck and fret board. will definatley be having LED's, but colour and wether i have the controller are yet to be decided. James.
 23. Yup, thats a great pic, 2 beautiful basses, but i would say that!! James. really getting excited about my new Spitfire! James.
 24.
Man, it's still a rapid build compared to the likes of Fodera! Bernie's had a busy year it would seem. If it's any consolation, Bernie has my Rumour. Even though it is built, it has spent more time with Bernie than me. It's doing the rounds at the shows at the moment!
HaHa, yes i saw that, i'm having the same problem ,there is a nice pic of yours and mine together on the GB stand from the Manson guitar show They make a nice pair!! James.
