  8. They were only made for 12 months between 1985 and 1986. The models like mine were made in Japan, and were sold by Fender for around $500. There was indeed a US version called the Fender Performer Elite which retailed at around $1,000 at the time. Thanks for the compliments - it's even better looking than the photos suggest!
  9. Slim, yes . . . .but definitely not impossible. It involves a bit of patience and luck from my experience!
  10. I first became aware of these rarities as recently as last year in a magazine. Then a couple of weeks ago the chance came up to buy this beauty and I couldn't resist. The guy even drove it personally to my house in Newcastle all the way from London to ensure it reached me safely. All I can say is it's astounding. I've had the lot - Rickenbackers, Jazzes, Precisions, Flying V, even a Gibson Explorer bass but I've never played (or seen) anything quite like this. The two-octave neck is wonderfully thin and plays like a dream. This Performer is in incredible condition for being 28 years old and the only modification - and a wise one at that - is the addition of Schaller strap locks. An exceptional bass!
  11. This bass is now sold. A big thank you to everyone who showed an interest in it and an even bigger thank you to Tom, it couldn't have went to a nicer guy. Cheers.
  12. Hi Jazzmanb, The neck is a Precision neck, manufactured to replicate the ones used in the 70's. I've had a few Jazzes and Precisions in my time (hence my username!) and I can truly say, hand on heart, this is the 'fastest' Precision neck I've ever played let alone owned. It's extremely smooth and rediculously playable. You're more than welcome to pop across for a no obligation tryout, but it's only fair to warn you you'll be more than impressed!
  13. Thank you kindly karlfer - I agree with everything you say (it's an extremely lovely bass and a delight to play). Appreciated
  14. Many thanks for the Bump ;o) The Gibson I'm interested in is a LP Junior DC in Peltham Blue.
  15. Many thanks for the compliment - I must admit it's a much admired bass. I'll willingly forgive your ignorance if you forgive mine - it is indeed a 'Crafted In Japan' Guitar. I should have included such a basic fact in my description! Trusting this helps
