Ridiculously good guitars for the money. Very good live sound, our guitarist uses one and rates it above his other, more expensive instruments.

    Have a free bump.
Thanks, I completley agree with your guitarist! I was considering keeping it but someone on gumtree has just stumped up the cash so its now sold!

Not what I meant, mate. Harness the raw, unfettered power of Basschat!

There must be several hundred Basschatters sitting a tube-ride away from you, maybe thousands.

Someone will have one for you to try. You just need to ask about a bit ...

    I see, Good idea! Thanks.

I like the '75 although it fits the profile of a custom colour late 60's/early 70's Jazz a lot more. I'd be interested to know if the bridge pickup was 70's position too, if not it's a really late 60's looking Jazz. Still really nice though!

I think you are right. Its got more in common with a late 60's model then a 70's. Hopefully someone that has one will pop up on here with more info!

I guess unless you have the chance to try them both out it's impossible to tell what they play like.... Its an interesting looking bass though. I've not seen one like that before, is it MIJ?
Thats an example one I've posted a picture of but its a ltd edition US Reissue (Although there are new MIJ ones around). Like you say you never know for 100% until you try one!

I like the look of that 75 personally... although I thought the thumb rest had moved to the other side of the strings by 75.... I may well be wrong!

Whatever it is though it looks lovely....

yeah Im going that way too but Im not overkeen on the headstock... Wonder what the play difference is like?

  6. So, I’m thinking of getting one of the following Fender Jazz Bass models but I have no experience of trying either one out and will probably have to buy before I try online if I decide to take the plunge. Has anybody else on here got any experience of these basses and any feedback they can provide?

I have a Gibson Midtown Standard 6 string (the P90 version) and it is a sensationally good instrument. If this is anything like the guitar then it will be a brilliant bass.
i like the look of the Midtown guitars. I think Gibson have really up'd their game over the past year or so and started producing some really good stuff thats a little different. This is a bass for someone that likes the hollowbody look, wants good tone and a beautiful looking bass and doesn't want to worry about feedback.

Does it handle feedback well at higher volumes?

    Nice bass :)
Thanks. It sounds a good as it looks too and pelham really suits this style of bass but for some reason Gibson discontinued the colour pretty early.

I had a feedback issue with my old hofner so that was one to the main things I looked out for and kept in mind when i bought it. I'm happy to say that feed back isn't an issue!

    wowie, this is stunning! GLWS

yeah it is, It looks even better in the flesh which is why I don't understand why it was quickly discountinued by Gibson?

  12. I've had a couple of rare-ish basses before which I've imported from the USA. I had a beautiful custom G&L JB2 bass which at the time was a brand you'd never see over here. I haven't ever seen another USA JB2 in the flesh in the UK and especially not one as beatiful as the one I had!

Currently I have a beautiful Pelham Blue Gibson Midtown bass and I was told by the shop i ordered it from that I was lucky to get it as they more or less discontinued the pelham blue model after they offered them for sale (true but mad as its the most beautiful version!). He told me that no others had been officially imported (sales ploy?). Anyway it sounds great, looks cool and because of its rareness I thought it would be a sound investment!

Since getting it I have only used it once and now I'm starting to think it may be best if I do get rid of it and buy something else that I may use more...decisions!

  13. Mansons Guitar Shop in Exeter stock and sell Eden but I wouldn't bother looking on their website as its still being developed. best to give them a call for prices. I did go looking for a nice 4x10 eden cab but all the shops I went to in and around London said they had stopped selling EDEN and one said it was down to some commercial dispute with marshalls. Anyway, I think marshall are being picky about who sells there products and are taking their time relaunching EDEN.

GAK in Brighton also have 0ne 4x10 cab

  14. I have tried the ES 335 bass and they are beautiful but I own a Gibson pelham blue Midtown Bass and overall I prefer the midtowns sounds personally. I also own a Gibson Les Paul standard bass (weighs a ton) and the ES 335 is basically a larger hollowbody version with same pickups etc. Saying that I still want one in my Gibson collection but they are selling for £1699 at the moment and I can't justify that when i have the midtown to meet all my hollowbody bass needs!
