  1. What a beauty and a bargain at that price!

I have one from the Custom Shop in Sonic Blue and the build quality is off the charts! Pick ups can be pretty hot but this is a hell of a lot of bass for the money and anyone who is looking for a decent Fender Jazz should look at one of these USA Models. Its keeping it in the Leo Fender family after all!

According to google search, "placentia" comes from the Latin "pleasant place to live". However, it does sound similar to placenta.

On a further google search it appears to be an area close to the Fullerton factory so I assume thats why it has been used. Still, could of thought of something better and yes, it sounds close to Placenta so hopefully no marketing mishaps!

What was the weights like of the two? I think I'd be hard pushed to pick between them as the SB-1 also looks very tempting. Sadly there's no shops around here that stock them so trying them out is near impossible. My Fullerton JB was excellent, first class build quality and finish but just too damn heavy unfortunately.

I don't know the exact weight but I personally didn't find the weight that much of an issue and it balanced beautifully. The SB-1 was certainly lighter but then the body is smaller and the feel just it wasn't for me. I loved the MFD pick ups though, very powerful! The LB Pick ups were less powerful but had a nice classic P bass sound about them.

I don't think my G&L JB is that heavy either although I am used to playing Gibson Les Paul Basses which are very heavy in comparison.

They have a stunning (well I think so) US Fullerton Deluxe at Guitarguitar and the body is made from Western Sugar Pine? Not exactly sure what that would be like.

I tried this Bass out before Christmas and was totally blown away by it. I still don't know how I managed to walk out the shop without it!

I have a G&L Custom Shop JB so I know how good these basses are and the high quality they are built to. The neck on this bass was so smooth and easy to play and the thump from that pick up was beautiful. I played some Jamerson bass lines and it really fell into place.

I'm a fan of the MFD Pick ups (also tried an SB1) but the stock pick up on this really delivered. Had it been a different colour I think I would of snapped it up.

G&L are like a mini custom shop with hand built high quality basses being turned out under £2k. If it had Fender on the headstock you'd be looking at closer to double the price. I just don't understand how they aren't a lot better known in the UK.

In the end I did pull the trigger on one. I had it delivered last week but I've not had a great deal of time to get to know it yet. I spent about an hour with it yesterday including a slight adjustment to the factory setup, just a little high for my liking. It's obviously a beautifully put together and finished bass, exactly what you'd expect from a G&L. It's a bit heavier than my Precisions but to me, thats no big deal. But for a £1k+ bass I think it should have come with a hard case and not a pretty cheap gig bag but hey ho.

It would be nice to get the opportunity to play it at volume and not just quiet home noodling but that's not going to be happening anytime soon unfortunately. Even so, its a cracking bass.

Beautiful looking bass! Im surprised it didn"t come with a case too. I know guitar guitar had a couple of custom shop models for £1300_ish ( green sparkle & shell pink) that came with a case but I guess some dont.  Here's a couple of photos of mine. 20201225_081557.thumb.png.c1a278d5fafb5970a6453630e554416e.png

Just wondering if anybody here has one of these USA G&L Jazz basses and what their opinions of them are? Obviously how they compare to US Fender Jazzes (which I have owned in the past). I've owned Tribute Jazz types which have been great considering the price. But I have my eye on a US one so I'd love to hear some thoughts on these. Cheers.

Bit late to the party but I got a custom Built G&L USA JB in sonic blue a couple of years ago. Price for a custom build was amazing considering the quality of the build and the playability. I love my Fender Jazz Bass but you'd pay a hell of a lot more for a USA Fender and I think the G&L is actually much better and I always get comments from people.on it both the look and sound! I hear they will be offering MFD pick ups for JBs next year too. Anyway, not too many of the USA models in the UK so probably get a lot of Fender enthusiasts slating them without trying them but I'd say  they are well worth the money and well underrated.

Hiya - just sat looking at the receipts from Christmas purchases, and the plans for home improvement in 2021...

I have gone a bit mad since the initial lockdown, so as I’ve just bought a new bass and have 2 other p/j’s, thought I’d see what the interest would be in this beautiful thing.

it’s 9lbs, sounds brilliant and has a 35 scale, it has EMG pickups, maple/walnut/alder (?) body wings. And the non trim tonepump pre.

A couple of small dinks on the rear of the body, but is in great nick overall.

It has no case/bag - it came with something I’d describe as a “firewood” case which was so scruffy, I binned it. I could source something for shipping I suppose.

the 35” scale doesn’t feel odd, I suppose I’m used to fender sized bodies so with the smaller NS body, it all balances out.
