1.
LOL...... nee bother man, Kev's Awesome and i'm just helping out to keep them on the Road, while the Bucket's away

It'll be good to meet you, and I DO need some advice on wadding for my cab !!!

How come you got a BassChat T and I missed out !!!! ??
For cab wadding, try this stuff Wadding. It comes in 1.5m width so about 3m should be more than enough for your 4x10. I'd do the back, sides, top & bottom. Simplest way to attach it is with a heavy duty stapler, oh and don't stretch it tight.

    See you tonight then ;)

  2. Don't you just love an optimist ;)

My rig must have been complete about 100 times in the last twenty plus years, in fact its a bit like Triggers broom, its had 15 different heads and about the same number of different cabinets :P

  3.
slight mis-spell....... "uses" should have been used (s&d right next to eachother and clumsy bass players fingers)

I sold the monster about 2 years ago.....

You could have heard my GKRB700 II into my Loud inc cab on Friday but I think you're not going cos i'm playing instead of Kev :P

Get ya'self along..... i'm not that Bad

    Hey Mark,

Sorry mate, just re-read my post over at the other place and it does sound a bit like that don't it ;)

To explain, I've been promising Mr Bucket that I'd turn up to see him play after he was hugely complimentary about my dep at the Office last year, hence the rather cackhanded post. It was not intended as a slight towards you or your playing :)

Looks like I will be there on Friday (surplus brownie points to burn, so I may as well use them before they time expire) look out for a fat bearded bloke in a bright orange basschat tee-shirt!

  4.
If you can get hold of one then surely the PJB T-500 takes first place:

    http://www.philjonesbass.com/PRODUCTS/AMP/T-500.htm

    Alex
If that sounds even remotely like my little PJB 'bass buddy' then I want one!

  5.
I Uses an Aguilar DB680 & DB728 Valve Pre- Power with a pair of GS410's (see avatar) for about 6 months.

Best Sound i've ever had !! not sure the Cabs were the last word but would have loved a pair of Begantino 410's with that set up.

Ultimately though the Weight of that Set Up became a drag doing 3/4 shows a week, as we were at the time

    Mark
Mark,

Are you bringing your rig to the NE Bish Bash then?

  6.
a 750watt valve amp ;o are you trying to kill people with volume?
World domination plan 'b', harness the power of the infamous 'brown note' and then threaten world leaders with embarrassing trouser/skirt moments if they don't pay me squillions of money in all currencies ;)

  7.
If money was no object - what would be the finest valve amp around? (And possibly the cab to go with it) Could be vintage or new.
Well the amp would be around 750w and have say three separate pre-amps (Alembic, Ampeg, SWR) and weigh no more than say 20kg.

    The cabinet would be an 8 x10 + 2 x 15 + 2 x 12 in a fold-down box weighing no more than 20kg and fitting in a briefcase.

Well you can dream cant you ;)

  8.
I don't know a lot about this type of thing, but thinking about it logically I'd go - Bass > TU2 > UniBass > Exciter > Punch Factory > Amp
Thanks Ben,

I used to run that way, but found that running the exciter after the punch factory added back a little tonal 'width' if you know what I mean,

  9. Ok folks,

I'm not a huge effects user, but an upcoming gig has spurred me on to sort out a pedal board, PSU and to fix down the pedals I've got.

    In future, I will be using;

    1) Akai Unibass (distortion octaver thing)
    2) Aphex Punch Factory (compressor)
    3) Aphex Bass Exciter (bass exciter type thing)
    4) Boss TU2 (tuner)

    The TU2 and Unibass are relatively new purchases and haven't been gigged before. Using the two Aphex units I tended to go;

Bass -> Puch Factory -> Exciter -> Amp

    I'm thinking that the new layout should be;

    TU2 -> Akai -> Punch Factory -> Exciter -> Amp

What do you more seasoned effects users recon, does that sound about right? BTW the Akai effect output will be going through the PA so only the clean bass signal will be going through the punch factory and the exciter.

    Any comments will be appreciated.

  10.
Who are you, and what have you done with Warwickhunt? The turny things are all on one side of that headstock, and there isn't any sign of a 'W' anywhere! ;)
That picture would look lovely on a tee shirt. You know, the type you could wear at a social event, say in Seaton Deleval on say the 1st of March :P :)

  11.
I wish someone would buy this.

If I had the cash or you wanted a swap for a Corvette $$ 5 string I'd be biting your arm off for it.

This is exactly what i am looking for for use with the rock band.
What an absolutely spiffing idea. Me and at least one other NE Basschatter would probably pay money to watch Mr Wateroftyne play a gig on a five string Warwick, eh Mr Hunt? ;) :P :)

  12.
So we've firmly established nay PROVED that not only is WoT anti-Warwick but he can't see past 4 strings! The barsteward. :P
Indeed, and I guess that puts me in the same minority grouping as a warwick owner ;)

  13.
Those machineheads look distinctly 'Fendery'... has the anti-Warwick backlash started already? Best you try again matey boy with some distinctly 'W' shaped tuners! ;)
Nowt wrang with them tuners matey, at least nowt that another one wouldn't put right :P

He's at it again, discriminating against those of us with more strings than talent :)

  14.
Have a look at CPC Farnell

Or there's some on ebay if you search for "Speaker Carpet"
The Maplin carpet is ok, a little thin (be careful when your stretching it) and its grey rather than the traditional black, but I quite like that as it looks custom.

  15.
So... what y'all bringing? ;)
Ok, well I'll bring my SWR750x and either one or two Goliath 4x10's or a Son of Bertha 1x15 (depends what the two 4x10s sound like together. Gigging them together for the first time in a couple of weeks).

Bass-wise I'll bring my Overwater J 5 and either a Fender Jazz V DLX or my home built P thing.

And as Mr Organiser has expressed an interest, I'll bring the PJB Bass Buddy along as well.

  16.
Hahaha, no brown nosing required. The offer of transport is there for anyone who wants it.

March 1st looks good with me.
Yep, March 1st good for me too. I'd be happy to give anybody a lift, though it'll depend on how many cabs the organisers want me to bring as to how much room there is in the car.

  17. 1) Who's up for it in principle?

Count me in, but the sooner you pick a date, the better, as with my diary at the moment I need at least three weeks notice.

    2) Would you prefer a weekend afternoon or a weekday evening?

Weekend afternoon would suit me better and I'd have more chance of making it.

    3) Would you be prepared to chip in - literally - a quid or two for hall hire?

No problems, I'm happy to pay a share.

    4) Can we have a strict embargo on the number of Warwicks allowed in the room at anyone time?

Yes please, (ducks and runs whilst weaving to avoid thrown objects) :P

Warning: I may wear my basschat tee-shirt, therefore the wearing of sunglasses may be advisory if not mandatory ;) :)

  18. Timing: the difference between a good bass player and an amazing bass player (and rythmn section too!)

I don't think its really about being mathematically right on the beat. For me, it's all about the feel of the song and having the ability to move the beat around that fraction to turn an otherwise mundane chord progression into something lively and interesting and musical.

  19. Ok Egor, my evil plan has taken a step nearer to fruition.

First, we buy the black five string version. Then we take our trusty chop saw to the headstock and replace it with a ball end holder. Then we add Status style tuning keys at the body end of the bass. And then Egor, having solved the infamous neck dive issue, WE TAKE OVER ZEE WORLD HA HA HA HA HA

  20. For me, the forum is fine as is.

Having been around here through the various incarnations since Gerald or Gerard first got the idea rolling in the UK, I feel right at home with the Kiwi/Ped format.

I'm sure the place needs some finance to keep it going and to maintain bandwidth, uptime etc etc. I have suggested before the pay-to-sell idea where the advertiser pays to place a 'for sale' add. If you look at the number of threads in the for sale sections, even a nominal listing fee should be sufficient to fund the ongoing maintenance and development costs of the site. Failing that, merchandise is probably another fine way to raise income (just look at the uptake for the 'orange' basschat shirts!).

I'd be happy to pay a subscription to access this place, but I recognise that others may not either be able or willing to do the same, and I dislike the two-tier approach adopted by some other forums as being eliteist and clique'y (two things I hate with a passion).

  21. Ok peeps, I've gone with the PJB Bass Buddy care of our own Vern-Icepick and wow, what can I say.

Big fat warm tone on my home recordings whereas without the PJB it was just a little flat and lifeless. Hopefully, the studio guys will have the same experience later this month.

BTW just to clarify, without the preamp and plugging straight into the desk, my J-Retro equipped Overwater J5 wasn't really 'driving' the mic input on the desk. Yes, we had to back the trim gain thing back a bit to stop it distorting, but in backing it off, I seemed to loose some depth or oompth. With the PJB, I can back the gain on the bass buddy back to avoid distortion but still provide a big fat signal to my desk. Does that make sense, I hope so 'cause thats what seems to be happening?

Anyway, I'm not/will not be eq'ing the bass using the preamp but I will be horrendously tempted to leave the compressor switched on as this is the most bass friendly and musical compressor I've come across so far and all from just one knob too.

Thanks for all the suggestions and the help,
