Final bump before withdrawing
-
So as I mentioned in another thread I recently blew the amp head in my TC BG250 208 combo and whilst I could replace it like-for-like, I’m considering just using the combo as a cab and adding a Markbass Little Marcus 250.
One reason is I love the range of tones available from my SWR Marcus Miller preamp, second reason is having blown one TC I’m reluctant to go with the replacement option.
Question is, are any of you lovely people using one of these Markbass heads in anger, and if so what do you think of them?

Whats the scale length of this please? More electric bass or actual double bass?
She’s 3/4 scale, definitely more double bass than electric. There’s a great video of Ed Friedland playing one here

I've just put my five-string KK Baby Bass up for sale in the classifieds section 😉

Continuing my “I’ve got way too much gear for the space I’ve got” here’s the next item I’d like to move on - my five-string (low B) KK Baby Bass Traditional.
I bought this bass about six years ago secondhand from a guy in Wales who unfortunately shipped it to me via ParcelForce. When the Bass arrived, the fingerboard was detached, and the body had suffered a few small dings (all shown in the photos). We both learned that the ParcelFarce additional insurance is worthless for musical instruments and after a while the seller simply ceased responding to communications. Being a reasonably competent engineer, I reattached the fingerboard myself and this has remained stable ever since. I mention this as I like to be open and transparent in my dealings. About a year after I bought her the standard tailpiece failed (probably as a result of the transit damage) and I replaced this with a modified Thomastik tailpiece with the added benefit of fine tuners which are really useful for quick fine adjustments mid-gig.
Bottom line is as much as I love this bass, an old motorcycling injury to my left thumb makes playing this (or any double bass for that matter) for any length of time an uncomfortable proposition.
I originally paid £850 for the bass but I’m now selling for £650 in respect of the history of damage. Obviously given previous experience I am extremely reluctant to ship the Bass but would be happy to meet halfway within reason. Alternatively if you wish to try before you buy, tea/coffee will be available 😎I will also include a Stagg double bass stand in the deal. The Bass comes in it’s original KK ‘gig bag’ case which is in pristine condition with all zips, straps, etc intact and working as they should.
Any questions, fire away!-

Final price reduction. I saw one of these recently sell at this bargain price on a Facebook group page and that was without the flight case. I'll give it a couple of weeks and if she doesn't sell I'll hang on to her.

Absolutely, spares are definitely becoming harder to find but I haven’t found a current production amp that can match anyone of these for tone.

So it looks like I’ve blown something in my little TC Electronics BG250 208 combo.
Turned it on today and there was a crackling followed by a pop and then no output and that horrible hospital antiseptic smell of knackered electronics.Has anyone experienced this with the BG250 head and if so, was it an expensive repair?

Purchased this from the US many years ago to see whether it would fit my then Fender DLX Jazz V - it didn’t! Nor does it fit my Overwater Jazz V or Sire v2 Jazz V so I guess it really does only fit the American standard Jazz V 😂
Looks gold in the photo but is actually bright shiny silver.
Price is £5 + postage or collect from Killingworth Newcastle upon Tyne.

Nee to the world of IEM’s so this thread has been an invaluable source of information. As a user of some custom moulded ACS filters, I was wondering whether anybody has tested the ACS Pro Line IEM which converts any ACS custom moulded ear plug into an IEM?

Good to see Elvis helping out with quality control 😎

So quite a few years ago I became what began as an enthusiast but quickly became an obsession with the SWR sound. Over the years various SWR amps, cabs, and combos have passed through my hands but I think I’m currently at the most heads I’ve ever owned.
As it was a typically miserable British bank holiday weather wise, I decided to spend the afternoon ‘testing’ and sorting my current stable.I think I’m sorted for now, unless someone tempts me with either a Baby Blue or the even rarer Spellbinder 😎

So being the impatient bugger that I am I couldn’t help contacting James for a progress update. He confirmed my body was fully sanded ready for finishing, so we’re roughly halfway through the wait 🤞
In the meantime, I’ve stripped and sanded the neck ready to refinish it with some of Rothko & Frost’s aged tinted nitro which I’d better get a move on with or the body will be here before the neck is ready.

Thanks Graham,
They are indeed a great amp but it has been relegated to fourth place behind my SWR SM1500, SM900, and SWR MM Pre/Amplite head choices. I really have too much gear and need to shift this to make space.

In answer to a couple of pm’s, I am happy to package this up for shipment. I can pack around the amp with bubble wrap, and construct a strong cardboard box around the flight case. As I work from home there’s no problem with waiting in for couriers to collect.

Recently played through an old skool peavey 2x15 in a rehearsal room. Trouserflappingly fantastic.

Based on what I’ve been reading in the Build Diary’s section, I’d be tempted to throw a Sims Super-Quad in there for the best of all worlds solution.

So here I am having a bit of a slow day so I thought "Ooh I know, I'll play a little bass" so I took out my little bass (Harley Benton CLU fretless) and low and behold the 'E' string has snapped. The strings were Aquila Reds and it looks like the string has snapped where it sits over the bridge saddle. No problem I thought, there's plenty of meat left around the tuning peg so I started to unwind and the string snapped again. Looks like the rubber (or whatever they are made out of) has perished and gotten brittle.
Not wanting to invest in another set if this is going to happen again, I got to wondering what options there are for alternatives for these great little basses?

Your bass is like a little sister to my five string. Great bass as you say and easy to get to work in a band setting. Mine doesn't get much playing time these days as doubling gigs are rarer than gigs themselves.

Aguilar AG500SC for sale £300
500W at 4 ohm Aguilar AG500 SC for sale. I’ve owned this amp for the last five or so years and it’s never let me down. Very easy to dial in a usable tone, simple no frills bass amp with inbuilt ‘heft’ (none of your lightweight class D nonsense here).
Amp will come with the old but serviceable 3U flight case shown in the photos. Collection only from Killingworth, North Tyneside or arrange your own courier at your cost/risk. Price is £325 firm. Only selling because it’s fallen into third place behind my two SWR amps and I need the space. Equally I won’t be too disappointed if it doesn’t sell.
Any questions, ask away!-
