1. I heard something about that ages ago in the comment section of that video, didn't believe it but Guthrie himself confirmed it in another video. Also, I f'ing love the trading 4s then 2s then the 1 in that song.

  2. Sorry all, instead of creating a new thread, I thought I'd rehash this one. Using the search feature, it's strange to see how little love there is for Avishai Cohen, one of the true bass geniuses IMO. In a way, it's my personal version of easy listening... there's nothing "easy listening" about simple and boring, for me at least.

  3. I was going to post this earlier! Just as well, as my motivation was somewhat cynical.

...as in, this is the stuff I'd much rather hear in the "charts". These guys are clearly having a whale of a time and playing some incredible, interesting music, whilst the supposed "originals" manage to take themselves seriously.

  4.
Thats called having a different opinion and if people dont want other opinion (and im sure they do) they really shouldn't post on a public web forum.
Opinions like the ones expressed here seem a little silly, when she could probably outplay most of us at any given genre.

*edit: I didn't mean that. I just meant... imagine yourself on stage next to Tal in front of Jeff Beck, and you're asked to take a solo. She's definitely on it. What does your opinion matter at this point?

Could possibly just be my headphones here... but that is an insanely rockin' bass tone. Not what I'd usually go for, but good song as well.
Check out Toe. Their album 'For Long Tomorrow' is a thing of beauty! It's not prog. It gets dubbed post-this and post-blahblahblah, but who cares.. it's a good'n.

Exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for :) Thank you.
I love Melt-Banana!!

anyone mentioned Boris or Zeni-Geva yet?

I saw ruins, but the version with only a drummer, last year in Bristol. Hugely entertining.
Boris are one of my all time favourites, they should be a househould name by now D:
Best gig I ever saw was Ground Zero, they were the most incredible thing I have ever witnessed on a stage:-

*edited YT videos out to save space

    I could go on....

    :)
That's mental. Thanks.

  6. I've come across 3 Japanese "prog" bands in the past few weeks that I'm finding completely inspiring, and couldn't go without recommending to somebody. If anyone has any further Japanese progressive oddness to share, please go ahead and post them :)

mouse on the keys - maybe not so much prog, but just brilliant, hear for yourself...

ruins - chaotic duo of bass and drums

(prog rock medley, see how much songs you can guess. there's 39...)

kenso - no one song from them could do them any justice. check out the related links on YT for more.

  7. Posted this in "bass tracks to listen to before you die" thread, and am now posting it here

The bassist is a woman named Meshell Ndegeocello (thanks to bubinga5 for pointing that out)

Bit of a strange one this, but it satisfies all of my groove needs...

  8.
Seems to me, Ryan Larson is to music, what Derek Pye is to photography. Check out "Derek's Photos" :)
LOL

    very artsy...

  9. Had to learn Amy MacDonald - This is the life, for the function band I'm in... not what I'd usually listen to but damn it sounds great in a band. Actually, none of it is stuff I'd usually listen to but actually learning the songs and getting them to sound tight gives you an appreciation of it.
