2. No man, this is what the forum is all about, we learn from others, I was considering a palatino as well, interesting that needed work too, I guess its just expectations, price and build quality, I sold more than a few substandard les pauls in the 80's when I worked for a gidson dealer, they were 800 quid then, still you have a cool eub now though.

3. @ TPJ awe, that sucks and interestingly enough answers Happy Jack, I now have the bass i wanted and as ongoing maintenance happens anyway, maybe at the start of your relationship with the instrument is the best time to get the niggles outta the way, the shop work wasnt to sxpensive and brought it in at retail new price, but its still only had a set up, albeit a major one.

4. Due to the fact that most modern cheap basses are made at a price, they are barely finished as they get put in the box in china and shipped, hence my s/h stagg eub I purchased of a great guy was none the less not good when played, dead spots, fuzzy spots, terrible action etc and after a good look down it, a ski slope neck, so, planed of the black polymer finish, maple board underneath resanded and oiled, ebony nut and what have I got, 1 fantastic eub...be warned, you pay for what you get. (p.s a luthier did it for me)

5. Hi, Plenty of good advise there, I got a dean, the one on the stand, its not really an EUB but got me interested in them,
so I purchased a used stagg for £220, it was unplayable in reality, as ive been a musician for 30 years and can set up basses and guitars I knew it wasnt nice and had high and low points on the fingerboard.
My friend a luthier had to plain the fingerboard, as in his words, its a ski slope, then make an ebony nut, when he had finished he asked me what I wanted to do as he had gone thru the black polymer finish.
I knew it was maple underneath, so I now have an oiled maple board and it plays amazingly.

6. We use a 1k gigrac by soundcraft, 2 x 300w carlsbro 1 x 12s on tripods and 2 x 100w wedge monitors, split the amps to out fronts and mons A+B, we are a 3 piece, the drummer brings his own power monitor, feed to him. throw it up in 1/2 an hour, its always been more than adequate and as we always say, quick packaway, quick packaway, quickpackaway.

7. I thought I would put a link up to this page, you can see all the g&l bass and guitar range, well nearly, because the L1500/5 and Climax bass arnt there as they were not leo designs, The pup was taken to the MM sweet spot by BBE designs, or somthing like that. :)

9. Yes, the wunkay has a big MFD like the twokay, but its passive and mounted in the p bass p'up area, not the 'sweet spot' like the ray, climax or L1500. The p'up in the SB1 and SB2 sounds like a jazz pick up...ish.
The later SB1, i have a pre lawsuit headstock one has the super mfd split p bass pup and a curvier body dimension, the LB 100 is a p bass in all but name with a std pick up. (lb stood for legacy bass)
I like that little sb 1 on the bay, I think its a mahoghany body thats been stripped, I guess.

10.
I think John Giblin's work on Kate Bush Ariel album is very good.... also his work on the simple minds live album 'Live in the city of lights' is fantastic
+1 for anything giblin inc with john martyn and the other bush and PG albums, an enormous sense of melody, space and atmosphere.

11. Hi, Just got a used dean EUB, an astonishing instrument for the money I gave and I know its technically not a real upright, but for us mere electric bassists it gets close, especially for the upright mindset and sound. I would like to know your opinion on what strings would suit it best, thanks y'all.
