That's a shame. A.S.S.  are decent promoters. Sadly, having seen John performing in his mid 80s, I don't think you missed much 😟

You may well be right, but it's still a pity. I saw Peter Green with the Splinter Group in the early 2000s, and I guess he wasn't at his best, but I enjoyed it and at least I saw him. Similarly I saw Johnny Winter in Leverkusen in 2010 when he could barely make it on to the stage, but he played well, I think, and I'm glad I went. Once they are gone, they are gone.

Its basically just ignorance on my part. I simply wasn't aware and never really gave it much more thought.

When i looked at the google map Paisley borders on Glasgow so i wasn't far away

I also had no idea Paisley was Scotlands 5th largest Town / City.

Every day a school day on Basschat and happy that people actually read my posts.

More importantly WHY WERE YOU NOT AT MY GIG LAST NIGHT in Paisley. :tatice_03:

    Dave

    I live in Germany. It's a bit far ... 😄

I have no idea. I've always just assumed its part of Glasgow but now that you mention it the postcode is PA

My apologies if i've offended you there. I'll correct my post above.

    Dave

No apology necessary. I'm not offended 😁, just wondered, you being a fellow Scot and all.

Great wee regular gig for our classic punk covers band Emergency Exit in The Cave in Paisley Glasgow. ... Oh happy days in Glasgow.

Hi Dave, may I ask why you refer to Paisley as being in Glasgow? It isn't, it's the 5th-biggest city/town in Scotland, and I should know, being a Buddy. I don't mean to be argumentative at all. I'm just curious.

  5. I was there for a few days in 2015 for a Rugby World Cup game between Scotland and South Africa (my 2 teams ... Scottish born but long residence in southern Africa). It was great. Friendly people, some nice pubs, a decent pedestrian area, guitar shops, easy trip to Tynemouth at the coast etc. As others have said, the centre is quite small so you can walk everywhere, and the quayside is great too. Highly recommended for a visit. Something I'm not used to (being from Africa and having lived in Germany for a long time) was the arrival of busloads of young people dressed up to the nines, who then hit the town in determined fashion. I have no idea whence they came. A few hours later many of them were staggering about or face down in the gutters. Culture shock ... but I never had any problem with anyone there.

A few gigs I've been to recently have had support acts with one or two members plus a laptop.

Not headliners, as I would be unlikely to go to such a gig.

So it does seem to be bubbling up.

Yes, I saw RHCP in Cologne in August, and one of the support acts was ASAP Rocky. No band at all, just backing tapes. He wasn't bad, really, but IMO this is not what I would call live music. A bit of an odd choice, especially as Flea later thanked the audience for supporting live music.

No, me neither.  When I was very young Autobahn was the first pop tune I heard that grabbed my attention. My dad had lots of Beatles 45s which I heard many times I didn't care for them then, still don't. Far prefer the Fab(elhafte) Vier to the Fab Four.

I guess I'm a bit older than you. My folks also had Beatles stuff, and the Stones, CCR, Trini Lopez and Ray Charles. I loved all of that. They also had Pat Boone and Johnny Mathis, which I could have done without. By the time I heard Kraftwerk I was a teenager and was already listening to Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Hendrix, Dylan and Grand Funk Railroad. My musical tastes are somewhat chaotic 🙄. But 'Autobahn' was definitely something new and very different.

Saw them when they headlined 2019 BlueDot fest. It was great to see them for the first time, me a near lifetime fan, even though there was no Florian Scheider there, not that anyone could tell

Yes, my first and probably only time. I feel the same as you did. Not a band I ever expected to see, similar to when I saw Johnny Winter in Leverkusen a few years ago not long before he died.

  9. Just booked tickets for Kraftwerk in Bonn in August 😃.

Not strictly the next gig as we also have tickets for RHCP in Cologne in July. The thrice-postponed Sting gig in Cologne is now scheduled for November.

And we were at the Shetland Folk Festival recently, too. I like a bit of a mix of music 🙂

Keb Mo is not limited to one genre. His music covers a wide range of styles. Me and the wife have been to see him at least half a dozen times. I envy you, he's not coming to the UK this trip!!!

Sure, he's perhaps a bit like Taj Mahal in the genre sense. I was lucky enough to see Taj in Dublin in about 1981. He's a huge favourite of mine. Still don't think I'll get milady to go, though ... 🙄

  11. I've been a fan since the 70s. His version of 'Take 5' from around that time is outstanding IMO, and I loved the 'Breezin'' album. I was lucky enough to see him at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Hague in about 2002. A great player and a fine singer.
