1. Recently I've developed a liking for some great musical hip-hop (not rap over a droning sub).

I've found some examples of electric or synth bass done well in front of a crowd which seem quite difficult to find.

Great song, a bit poppy but fantastic fat bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5bbPOL1QnI
In the same concert he uses a Lakland I think at 2:20 if you look for 'Rock Your Body'.

Jay-Z, John Mayer and Tony Royster Jr... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v4KlT2UDi8

Enjoy! Tell me what you think or add to this list if you like.

  2. I've got my Lower Sixth practical tomorrow for my A Level grade, and bricking it! I'm playing Chromatic Fantasy, a Bach violin Sonata, and a piece from the Rockschool grade 8 syllabus (boke).

I don't know, I just weird kinda inadequate doing auditions etc alongside pianists etc, anyone else feel the same?

    *runs away to practice* :)

  3. Apart from Blood Sugar Sex Magik (it seems like a staple on here!), only really for shows/drama productions etc like Little Shop, or Hairspray, but I got my hands on some sheet music for both. Does anyone know where I can get all of Little Shop? Doing it next year :)

Yeah, thanks for all of the advice guys! I think that I forgot to mention that this was my first real transcription of a bass part, and I actually learned it by ear before writing it down, so the ease of reading it never really occurred to me, so I just wrote in in whatever way seemed 'neatest'.

I definitely will make a stab at learning the whole thing off this chart ^, and maybe just pretend in my head to play all of those runs :)

    Thanks.

  5. I gave a friend of mine my iPod a couple of months ago to 'revamp' with some nice music. Along with some great classical stuff (he's a trumpeter bloke), I got so much great jazz! First go on shuffle, you've all heard it, Cannonball Adderly quintet with Joe Zawinul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRrFWp4DUho...feature=related

And then the Birdland Big Band (featuring Tommy Kennedy!) playing 'Common Ground'. Favourite Big Band, favourite bassist!
