Gigging is a funny thing. The money is not great (usually) and I don't really like my fellow band members (singer and guitarist are married and are both Narcissistic sociopaths). The drummer has some kind of serious, paranoid, mental health issue (which he takes all sorts of heavy duty meds for) and is crazier than a box of frogs. I wouldn't want to socialise with any of them outside the band. But we make such a great racket together and I really enjoy the gig.

Sounds like a normal band to me. :P

There are any number of places you could get a perfectly giggable bass for around £100 (a Harley Benton P Bass is less than that, new) And a s/h combo from here, Facebook or Ebay for a couple of hundred would give you change to get a lead, tuner and petrol money to the gig....

3. I used to work full time in manufacturing being paid good money to do something I really enjoyed for years on end.
However, the highlight of my life was playing as last band on at Oliver's Bar, Burnley Blues Festival on the Sunday night, 300 miles from home.
The crowd went ballistic, demanding encores and we came off late, knackered and floating eight miles high thinking we were in for some serious flack from the organizers only to be told that the week end headliner had invited us up to the main stage to see his set, Jack Daniels supplied. :o
We were only a part time gigging pub blues band that had been asked to fill a slot.
Yes, we were paid, not a lot, ran at a financial loss and treated the week end as a holiday but boy was it fun.
Couldn't have experienced that buzz and respect if I had just sat in my bedroom playing with myself, could I? :D

Totally agree Blue, gigging is why I`m in a band. Yes I love rehearsing and recording, but gigging is the main thing for me. The whole buzz of it, driving to a new venue, seeing new audiences get into our music. Playing venues regularly and seeing the same faces at many gigs and chatting to them about the music plus making friends with them. I also love the solitude of a quiet drive home in the early hours.

This in spades! :)

Keith Ferguson. I always point towards the opening bass riff - 52 precision and heavy flats.

Yes, yes, yes - I play in a blues band called "Money Honey" named after this track and use a repro 53P complete with the appropriate resistor containing wiring, phenolic saddles and big fat flats to get as close to this sound as possible. A valve head and 2x10 cabinet helps too.

In truth, there is so much wrong with so many of these adverts that it is actually a bit pointless fixating on just one phrase.

I just spent three (count them, three) minutes on Gumtree and came up with any number of downright foolish adverts. Try this one:

https://www.gumtree....rage/1135985303

Now these people are probably absolutely straight, nice people, good musicians. I wouldn't know. How can you tell?

Apart from the venue and the date, there is literally NO information. I don't know what the line up is, what sort of music they play, whether they're any good, is money involved at all, where and when they want to rehearse, etc. etc. etc.

And all that for a one-off dep role for their "main bassist" (they operate a roster system?).

Who in their right mind would waste their time replying to that advert, and how could any reply NOT be a time waster?

Having identified the band from the ad, looked and listened to their website I don't think that this 66yo fat git would waste their or his time applying.

Sorry guys.

What even is that?

It could be a Danelectro bass foetus.

8. Big Fat La Bella flats or Roto TruBass Black Nylon 88s, depending on the bass. Highest gauge possible.
Slight neck relief.
Height at no buzz plus a bit.
Intonation accordingly.
Oh, and I like a high tension string set up and I don't use a pick.

9. This is a genuine, no bullsh*t loft find. :)

1990s Kahler 4-string Bass Forward Saddle Tremolo with all screws and bits complete.

The only thing missing is the routing template but I guess you could get one from Kahler if you need it.

As new, fitted to a home built P Bitsa for a few months of home use only a long time ago.

Never gigged
