I didn't think either my programmable Sansamp BDDI or the regular one done distortion or fuzz. Just mild to heavy overdrive (and the heavier drive past 2 o'clock sounded pants IMO, horse for courses etc).

The VT Bass on the other hand will just about get you into distortion with the drive cranked. Nothing crazy though.

Just found this, though it's guitar not bass. Might pick one up, since they're quite cheap, just for something to get messy with.

No worries, I'm pretty much skint after buying those Dano pedals and also a modded DS-1. If you've still got the tremolo at the end of the month I'll be able to make you an offer though.

Gets a bit too muddy and just plain eh for me when used normally. Great fun though for playing weird sh*t, especially if you've got reverse reverb.

I managed to catch my first Melvins gig at ATP last month. Now, I knew they'd be good, I've heard many good things about their live performances, but only one band (Sonic Youth in '00) has left me quite so lost for words as I was after their 45 minute or so freight train-like onslaught.

As you might imagine, I'm really f***ing looking forward to seeing them headline a show. Fingers crossed they make it back over this year

I've been looking for a cheap delay that can do echo well, this is one of the ones on my list to try. Seems to get very good reviews.

Others I'm also thinking about are the Ibanez DE-7 and Danelectro's Dan Echo, though I'm not sure the latter does delay at all. So far I'm leaning towards the Echohead, since it's the cheapest and my Marshall Reflector reverb is the dog's dangly bits as far as I'm concerned.

Don't suppose you fancy trading the tremolo for a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive? Good condition, just a few small chips to the paint here and there.

I've just picked up a Dano CTO-1 Transparent Overdrive, CO-1 Drive and CF-1 Fuzz. I'm mightily impressed by all 3 of them, especially the CO-1. That's for guitar, mind you. On bass, they're all still very decent, I just found I needed to put them in a loop with an EQ, to boost the low-mids and bass a tad. Saying that, it's about what you'd expect from using these kind of dirt pedals with bass I guess.

Can understand if you don't want the SD-1, personally I'd recommend the CO-1 for that job. Of course, maybe you're not a guitar player either

You could always try the MoltenVoltage mods or plug their Molten MIDI into it, if you've got a few quid spare.

Personally, I'm leaning towards an XP-100 though, if I ever get another Whammy.

I thought the Micro Q-tron sounded pretty cool, especially for the price, I just couldn't deal with the volume spike. I'm considering getting one again and putting it through a bypass looper with a volume pot.

A bit pricier, but I rather liked the MXR Auto Q (it has a level cut/boost!), could perhaps do with being a tad wilder though. Would definitely use again, if I could get one cheap.

Before I revisit the Micro Q-tron though, I think I'll be going the BYOC 440 clone route next. From what I remember, they supply parts to build it to Bottom Feeder specs if required. Plus I love the sound of the fixed wah option the BYOC has.

Level 42, can't remember what song though. I was about 7 at the time. By the time my parents let me have a bass (or any real instrument other than a Casio keyboard for that matter), I was 13, grunge was everywhere and Level 42 seemed totally pants.

For my thumb rest on my Tbird, I just used one of those rubber pedalboard mounting blocks with the sticky undersides. You know, the ones you get with Boss pedals to mount on Boss pedalboards.

I dunno what glue they use, but that thing's stuck solid on my bass.

EDIT: You might not want to use this method, if you give a crap about the finish on your instrument.

I want to write and record an album and play everything on it, as well as sing. Might get one or two friends to "guest" on guitar or vocals here and there, just so it does sound too samey.

Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots has been using a QSC MX1500 for his live rig since the mid-90's. Not the same model I know, but I guess it does say soming about the company in general.

Pretty sure he used it on their "Purple" album too, thinking about it.

As the proud owner of an ABM EVO II head, I'm wondering what the differences are to the newer Chinese-made EVO III models. Since I'm too lazy to find an EVO III to try out, has anyone here had a go on both?

I've no intention of getting rid of my EVO II, at least not for an EVO III. I'm just curious is all. In fact for a tube-amp lover (who's too poor to afford one), I've actually really started to like my ABM lately, to the extent where my VT Bass has been seeing more action with my guitar than bass of late.

Isn't feedback usually caused by the signal from the speakers, being picked up by the pickups on the guitar, thus creating a loop of sorts? At least I think I remember reading something like that. If so, as already mentioned, try standing as far away from your amp as possible and/or turn down.

If that doesn't work (small practice space/stage) or isn't feasible, I second a Boss NS-2 or if you want to spend a bit more for something a bit better an ISP Decimator.

I think I vaguely remember Justin Meldal-Johnson mentioning these over on talkbass. Basically, If I remember right, he said something along the lines of them being pretty outrageous and great for getting those good old Jesus & Mary Chain fuzz tones.

He did also include however, that an EQ pedal would probably be required after one to replace the bass suck caused by the Super Fuzz.
