Think they recorded most of Relayer in Chris's own 'garden shed' recording studio and it was notoriously hissy from the off. The Wilson remaster is probably as good as it's ever going to get.

Pretty sure it was Murray with them when I saw them, presumably a different tour. I had a look on wiki (might be wrong) which suggests when they first relocated to UK Sano stayed in Japan, so they hired Murray as a stop gap until Sano then sorted his affairs out in Japan and came over too.

I'm not the biggest Genesis fan but these opening chords on the opening track and the way the song then kicks in seems to be sending out a clear 'this band's not done yet' message despite its title

The preshapes don't eliminate the graphic, it's possible to use them both together. In my set up I've found that the sound I like best uses elements of the EQ from the Bassattack pedal, the TE online preshape and online graphic (plus a bit of built in compression). I've tried removing one or more of these features, assuming that I could compensate with the other parts but it never seems to sound quite as good to me.

I'm sure I saw them on the same tour, wasn't Neil Murray playing bass with them?

Glad it was a good one. Just checked setlist fm and the set now isn't too far removed from when I saw them at the NIA and it was Oct 2013! so they are effectively still on the same tour as then, they certainly still put some mileage in for guys of their age.

And that's the point a lot of 2 guitar bands miss. The good 2 guitar bands build a sound where the 2 complement each other, harmonise etc. If you listen to classic Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash and even Quo the 2 guitars are often playing different things. As you say, 2 guys chugging away on the same thing in the same time quickly turns to mush.

Didn't know that Barbara's sister is married to Joe Walsh. Could make for some interesting xmas get togethers.

Arguably their best long format song. The way it resolves into a strong uplifting theme after the chaos of the 'battle' section and then into the sublime 'soon' is always a hairs on the back of your neck moment for me.

So could you still live at the same standard of living you have purely from the gigging irrespective of having done a day job for years or is the gigging effectively topping up the pension or savings you accumulated from doing that day job for years?

Done NYE gigs for last 2 years so happy for one off this year, unless someone calls me for a particularly lucrative dep job.

Amazing. Top marks to their marketing people. Never made it all the way through a 'best of' myself. Had a quick look at the details for their last studio album, lots of collaborations which will no doubt bring in interest from fans of those other artists involved. I agree that it's a bit cheeky claiming royalties from work done after he's left and has had no input into, if that is indeed the case.

Surprised if he gets a couple of million out of them, were they that big? a couple of number 1 albums and a dozen or so top 20 singles? Actually I just checked and about 8 of original studio albums went Gold but no higher. So they made some money but I think old Pete's still being a bit optimistic.

Not me, think even running at 4ohms my Trace combo is under 300W. Never had it near even half full scale on the output vol, though it's been mostly pub gigs I'll admit.

I'm sure it'll be a while before she records another album but could perhaps see her doing some collaborations and come up with some more uptempo motown-esque type stuff in a D Springfield style. Would suit her.

Although the driver in my Trace combo is capable of a surprising range of frequencies for a 15'' I still prefer to use it with the 2x10 ext speaker (SWR) for gigs. Rehearsals are usually with the studio gear anyway.

I quite liked the last album, once they ditched all that faux folkie stuff they revealed a half decent indie rock band lurking within. Not sure if crez saw the old or new version.

I'm sure there are plenty of professional bands that don't, on average, play as much as once a week over the course of a year even when they have something to promote.

Used to do that with a previous band, used to enjoy playing it but could never quite get the Jerry Scheff stuff in at the end Glad you had a good time and so did the audience, that's what open mics (and all gigs) should be about.

Thought the most recent album was actually a bit of an improvement on its predecessor but it's been out quite a while now so I'm not sure how much from it will be in current set list. Saw them at NIA in brum not long after it came out but that was back in 2013. Would probably go if they were playing anywhere closer to me. They have done a lot of touring over the last few years, it takes its toll.

Would have come along but sadly it clashes with a 40th birthday meal that I've already agreed to attend, have a good 'un mate.
