i guess the easiest way to explain "chops" is as technical skill

if someone has good chops they are good at their instrument

and so if a piece of music is chopsy (i've not heard that one before) its technically very good with the purpose of making the players

look very good

Unfortunately yes you do get what you pay for however maybe a used head wouldn't be such a good idea?

you never know how its been treated before it gets to you

it could be serviced every year like yours and of course it'll be totally bullet proof and in great condition

or

it could've sat in a rehearsal room for 10 years being ragged to within an inch of its life all day every day and never been serviced

i'm not sure of the OP's level of knowledge when it comes to PA systems and so it could be difficult to notice the latter from the former

I would err on the side of caution and a warranty but yes if you can spring for it Peavey gear despite its reputation as dj gear is pretty solid

in short no shouldnt be a problem most mixers like this the "level" knob is volume and its fixed gain

that would be interesting to hear i remember seeing the foo fighters rockumentary where they talk about going from recording with pro tools to making a record with tape again and how you've just got so simply "play better" because things can't be fixed to the same extent

i wonder what bands such as queen and the like would've made of pro tools if they'd had it

Unfortunately the superbowl is infamous for musicians miming i refer you to the rhcp debacle a couple of years ago

iirc all the music is track but the vocals are live for the performance

i've seen bruno mars live on his last tour and jamero artis played a 4 string p bass for most of the gig however i remember him changing to a 5 for a couple of songs

Sennheiser hd-25's or beyerdynamic dt770's are industry standard closed back headphones neither are massively expensive (if compared to fashionable headphones at the moment the top of the line beats are about £300)

if you wanted to go open back (more common among studio engineers)

DT990's are pretty good for the money

i personally have a pair of Shure srm 940's and have friends with the slightly cheaper SRM 840's

they're good for the money and will do a fantastic job but are a little bass light (not such a crime imo) and are a little more expensive than the other options i've suggested

of course this all depends entirely upon your own budget but my advice would be that buying cheap means you'll buy twice

is a way and is used far more predominantly with big gigs than most people realised especially in the metal world

another way is to mic the kick from the beater head as has been said before (if the sound guy says that its too much effort it requires moving the kick mic on a stand from the front of the drum to the back)

another way is to use one of these and have your own mic permanently placed inside the kick but tbh that kinda defeats the object of having a solid reso head because its not the sound the drummer is going for not having a hole in the kick

the other option (and this is a controversial one) mic the drum from the front exactly the same as you would with one with a hole the mic won't lie it will sound like the kick drum that its mic'ing up which is how the drummer wants it to sound......

kick drums without holes have a very particular sound (think 70's bonham as an example) which is right for some bands but not for other i would imagine this is the motivation for Beer of the Bass's promoter asking for a kick with a hole in if theres gear share involved

but if you're playing your own gig with your own gear then its up to you how you use your gear.

would you for example take out a pedal you were using because the soundman asked you to?

i suspect not.

Yep owned two 2x10 traveller cabs one italian one indonesian.

next to each other i could hear a significant difference (maybe my ears are racist i hate italians )

but in all seriousness for me there was a lot more presence with the italian cab, and some of the felt started peeling off the indonesian cab after about 6 months of use i sold it to a friend a little while ago as for the gigs i was doing i only needed one

but hey like i said just my opinion

The percussionist is Rufus Taylor as well so i guess Roger wants him on the gig

We had him in where i work and live streamed his gig (gives you a little clue as to where i work) by all accounts an absolute gentleman and an incredible talent

just having a look to see if the gig is still available to watch anywhere will update if i find it

yeh it was a proper queen gig i've also worked in that room as a sound eng. its not easy its a big church and so its very lively but by all accounts the sound in the room was just as good as on tv

Its not live but anyone else watch Queen + Adam Lambert last night and think the mix for broadcast was very good bass sound was excellent classic P Bass tone and everything sounded crisp and tight

If you can try and find some old markbass cabs with made in italy written on them

markbass very quietly changed their production from italy to the far east about 2 years ago

i've owned both types of cabs and theres no comparison imho in sound and build quality
