1. @karlfer thanks man will take a look at those sources. I am crap at the patience bit but you are right. I need to get some willpower from somewhere.

@thepurpleblob. Thanks for the tips. I was thinking that myself about selling the bass on if I didn't like it for whatever reason. It's a good way to try a lot of basses especailly doing trades. A new bass every so often for the price of P&P :)

None of you will be surprised to learn that most of my drum student are unable to play consistently to a click. It is the biggest area we generally work on, but sometimes it is hard to convince them to spend 20 mins each day grooving to a click.

I often drum live, and usually find that I have to supply a hats chick or something when the drums are not playing, just to keep it together. So yes, my job as drummer has to be to keep time.

With regard to tempo, I have a Tama Rhythmwatch metronome clamped below my hats. This has a big knob for instant access to tempos and I write them on my set list. I have it silent but use the flashing lights to count every song in. I know that the tempo is consistent night to night, but I don't follow it once started, as usually subtle tempo shifts help a song to breathe.

So the answer is, in most of my bands, yes.

I suggested that our band should practice using a metronome and it caused such pain, anguish and disgust with the other band members that I left it. However, a metronome clamped to the drums not even clicking sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Will open this ugly can of worms again on Sunday.

I think that is very wise for a first purchase. I have bought several guitars and bass on ebay. One was a rip off as the seller mentioned there were some scratches on the back but didn't mention they were through to the wood. I have also had my best purchase off ebay so you take your money and takes your chance. I'm waiting for a Spector Legend Custom to arrive at the moment so fingers grossed! There are always so many things about descriptions that are subjective e.g. playing action, good for its age etc. If its your first instrument you don't want a duffer.

Ordering new is no guarentee either but if its from a reputable dealer at least you can return it if faulty.

Cheers Pinball. I've had a couple of bad experiences on Ebay buying other things. I don't like buying expensive items on Ebay but this site just seems legit. Hope your Spector turns up as you expect. I do already have a decent usa jazz special but I'll have a bit of money coming my way and have decided to get some company for my J. I've gone from being certain that I wanted a Fender P-bass but now I'm wanting a Musicman Stingray and a Sandberg haha. I've decided to go to pmt in manchester and try each of them and then try summore in Dawsons so I know what I want. I like the security of buying new but it's like buying a new car. As soon as you leave the shop your bass has lost about 40% of its value.

It's a great buzz though. I can see why people have lots of guitars now :)

  4. Hi Guys.

Sorry, havent been contributing for ages. Last time I came on I was moaning about a scracth on my bass. Little did I know life was about to shoot me once again out of it's sh*t cannon and thus teach me about getting things in proportion. Amen.

Anyway, I have been looking at second hand basses on here and was wondering if anyone else has bought a bass from a person online and if so, how did you go about it? I've read the sticky about asking for photographs and all that but at the end of the day how do you go about payment? Do you send a cheque to the persons address?

    Any advice appreciated

    Cheers

    J

It'll be worth it, beautifully built instruments.

Am very tempted. I hate GAS. I don't really need another bass but everyone else has more than one ...

I had a USA 75Ri jazz, i havent got that anymore. I have still got my Sandberg JM4. I love them and would advise anyone to at least try the Bergs out. Its a beast, punches through the mix better than anything ive previously had.
Thanks man. Those JM4's are very nice. Wish I could get one of each :)

No they are not heavy at all and because of the 2+2 headstock are superbly balanced. The PM & JM were just renamed VM & TM (probably something to do Fender getting stroppy over the use of P and J to describe the p/ups).
Thanks ezbass. I see, I'm easily confused and keep having to remember which is which. Nice to know about the balance. I'm very close to buying this although I'm strectching my budget by a fair bit :)

  7. Hi Guys.

I joined a band about this time last years and we find it hard to find time to practice so we havent gigged much as of yet. We made this music at home with a Presonus Firestudio Project Interface and mixed it with the Studio One artist software that came with it. It's all new to us but it's a lot of fun.

Would really appreciate any comments, crits and advice

    Thanks

    John

  8. Hi Guys. I have an apportunity to buy a Sandberg Pm 4 and was wondering about the weight of them. Are they back breakers? Also what is the difference between the jm, pm ,vm and tm? Are the pm's discontinued?

I have a USA fender jazz special and was looking to get a p-bass too, but I've read a lot of good things about the Sandberg Basses and from what I've heard on Youtube they sound awsome.

  9. This is the best laugh I've had in ages. You guys are brutal :)

I watch this guy on Youtube for tutorials and stuff. Dman or somthing and he went to one of those Bass Roadshows and he said everyone was doing this and it did his head in so he intentionally didn't play any slap bass. He's very good at slap bass too. I've also seen Bass roadshows advertised were they have stipulated that no slap bass is allowed.

When I first saw it reminded me of one of those twats that go into a guitar shop and gived it large just to show off. I fookin hate that.

Anyway, with the risk of being lampooned I would like to be able to play slap bass as fast as that but I would endeavour to be a bit more tuneful.

  10. Thanks very much guys for chipping (no pun intended) in.

Some ingenious methods for fixing the ding but I'm not adept enough to try.

I'm going to go with the general consensus and let sleeping dogs lie. I mean, there will no doubt be somthing else for me to freak out and stress over in the next week or so. I'm just going to convince myself I'm cool with it and it gives the bass MoJo and improves the tone. f*** it.

Sorry for wasting your time, hope you understand

  11.
years ago there was a Yellow Pages advert, in which a French Polisher* was called to deal with a nasty scratch on a table.

If you have a spare bit of cash it might be worth giving one a call?
    *this is not a euphemism!
I'm thinking you might be right.
Iron might do it, needs to be properly boiling hot though. I'd polish it down with fine wet and dry, till it is level, then polish with t-cut, maybe toothpaste for the finest bit. If wood is showing, maybe felt tip it first.
I'm not gonna try this. I am sh*te at DIY and I'll probably make a town halls of it. I'm going to just leave it until I can find someone competent enough to fix it.

I do appreciate your help though mate but it's a fair bit harder than I first thought it would be.

  12.
There's very little chance of any more of it coming off unless its badly cracked around the area. The paint is pretty tough stuff and won't just start falling off.

Just get a black marker in on the bit that's down to the wood and a blind man running for a bus wouldn't notice it.
Haha. I like that saying.
Put some wet tissue on the hole, and touch it with a hot soldering iron, the water/steam pressure can pop the fibers back out, then fill whats left with superglue and polish down.
could you use an iron? How would you polish it down?

Do you think T-Cut would work?

  13. Cheers fellas. You've helped to cheer me up a bit. I'll be honest though, I would rather have scratched the car. I don't know about the nail varnish. Has anyone done this with a good result?
ever thought about starting up a 'relic'ing business? I've got a belt sander you can have... :)
Hrrrumph :)
