What a fantastic bass.

Played lead guitar for a decade in bands. Took a punt on a bass because of my love of Rush and Geddy Lee and a few years later found myself with 4 mates, one a great drummer and the rest of us guitar players. I had a bass and we wanted to gig. 15 years later I'm still at it every week.

Yes on slower stuff when the 2 guitards play their keyboards. I usually play the 4 bass strings as the first 4 strings of a guitar chord. Played in different places it can be effective. Sometimes throw in a bit of flanger or wah to give a bit of sustain/drone.

If it sounds good I'll do it, if not I don't.

Yes ... I have had some major GAS the last few days and seriously thought about investing a few bob in a bass that would not depreciate. I suppose the ultimate would be a 70's Jazz with block inlays. Yes, I am a bit of a slut for that kind of thing. However after having a very pleasant 20 minutes with a Rick 4003 yesterday I'm thinking buy one or these new and keep it for years and play the thing most weeks as well.

Everybody will be happy.

I know about the Dunn and Glaub, I think this was just a standard sunburst model though. tried some mex P's at PMT and they were pretty awful as was the service unfortunately.

Checked out Guitar Guitar yesterday in Brum and was delighted to see such a great range of high end basses. I didn't bother to play anything with more than 4 strings or active but I was very impressed with a Lakland skyline Jazz. My gas for a P bass has disappeared now as I have tried 3 or 4 in the last week and not been impressed ( and I so desperately wanted to be ) infact the pick of the P's I tried was again the Lakland.

Anyway I now have enormous GAS for a Ricky 4003.

I had never played one before but fell in love instantly. I don't think I will be able to avoid buying one of these in the near future. I tried all this lovely gear through an Aguillar set up. Very, very nice. On top of it all the young bloke who served me was very helpful.

I will be going back and probably buying ...

This bass is too nice and too close to me ... I had literally been on BC a day or two when Wot's Jazz went, If I had had my bearings back then I would have had it.

Personally playing with Neil Young would be the ultimate, but I would probably choose rhythm guitar for that gig.

I was 1 when you did your last gig. Since the age of 17 I have practically gigged once a week every week. I'd really love to be doing this sh*t until the day I drop.

My older brothers really got into L42 when they were a real breakthrough act very early 80's and I imagine very hip . As a young teen I remember the endless 12" releases my brothers played but did enjoy some of their stuff. (Interestingly my brothers were fanatical Rush fans, which I am delighted to say is fact that has remained with us all to this day)

Anywho ... I had no interest in bass but was aware of the slap phenomenon of Mr King. I saw them at the Birmingham Odeon as a 14 year old and thought they were great and then mid 80's at the NEC and was totally unmoved. Then I forgot about them.

But ... a few years ago I took a punt on Retrogide, thought it was great and then saw them at the symphony hall on the tour and they were fantastic.

Mrs Fudge and I are going again this Sunday.

As Paul h said I'm from West Brom. Infact I played there the night of the England USA game. Practically lived in the place with Paul h 15 years ago.

As to my attendance .... at work until about 8pm next Wednesday.

BUT ... I am playing at Rock Steady Eddies in Walsall tomorrow night.

Suffragette City by Bowie or Children of the Revolution T-Rex for pub gigs. Weddings usually some ELO or other "chewing gum for the ears"

I've booked to see Quo. Never seen them live but my 5 and 8 year old love them since I sky+ their Glastonbury gig a few years ago. I'll get the Mrs to drive and take on suitable refreshments. I have to admit I'm looking forward to it.
