Recommend Progressive Bassics by Gary Willis, he shows how to work the three finger technique complete with string muting.......

Geoff, Interested, but the wife will divorce me if I bring another guitar into the house. Would you consider a p-ex/trade for my Warwick Streamer Standard 4 string, currently listed at £275 in the for sale section.

I also have a Shure Wireless set up for sale at £65 which would obviously be cash your way.

  3.
Bought this off a bassworlder about a year ago and I gigged it once but with a change of band and venues played, I dont use it much any more. Handles the low B on my 5 string really well.

£65 UK posted, or collect from Worcester Park, Surrey and save yourself a fiver.

No interest at all. Price too high ?? Reasonable offers considered.

Literally the best bass book i own. The tracks in it are tough but very very rewarding and musical.

  7.
You are right - I am working through the Ed Friedland "building walking basslines" book and will be moving on to the Gary Willis book thereafter, as there is a lot to take in.

Both Ed Friedland and Gary Willis are fantastic tutors, and I the Gary Willis book requires more of a preconcept of walking basslines in order to work.
Agree with all thats been said above.

What worked for me was the Strong-Beat, Weak Beat concept thats a favourite of Gary Willis. Take a standard bar with four notes in it, and play it over and over, with the emphasis on beats 1 and beats 3. You can extend this to scales (you will need to play the top note twice to keep within the four beats to a bar form as you come down the scale) and all of a sudden your scales and arpeggios sound interesting.

Vary it around a bit. For example play with the emphasis on beats 2 and 4 you've got yourself a reggae groove, 1 2 and 3 and you have a skipping walk and so on.

    Dave,

I think we might be away - trying to bag a last minute holiday deal, but if we are around I'll be there and well done for organising it !

    Cheers, John

  9. What was wrong with the old skin. I dont like the new one, it doesnt give me anything and I would like to keep the old one - but it seems I cant select it any more.

It seems pretty arbitrary to force a new skin on people just because its "new" and "cool".

  10.
There's a great Yamaha fretless 6 on eBay, the sellers name looks awfully familiar :)

I heard varied reviews on those Mazeti etc. Some very good, some very bad. I'be heard good stuff about Harley Benton bring good for the price. Have to say though, that I have no personal experience of either...
Harley Benton is very good value for the price. I bought a fretless 5, think I paid around £130. After about 18 months I did outgrow it but not before I had a pretty good feel for both fretless and 5 strings - exactly why I bought it.

I did a couple of gigs with it and got complements on the looks and the sound.

Anyway I now have a more expensive fretless 4 and a fretted 5 - that is the only downside, it'll fuel your GAS.

Check out Harmony Central for the Harley Benton reviews. I did a review myself for one of the old sites and if you PM me your email I'll send it to you.

    Cheers, John
