Looks exactly the same as my old bass (below) except the bridge pickup. I certainly didn't get £1400 for mine haha!

Ok, I'll keep trying. The local family run store doesn't stock many 5's so I may have to make a number of trips there to see what's in. There's another music store in town but it's a chain, and not very good really.

Can anyone recommend brands to try? Preferably 35 scale

I tried so far... an Ibanez BTB1305E, a Vintage, and some horrible cheap thing from another local store chain.

The Vintage had the nicest neck of the 3, and the string spacing was good, but it was 34 scale, and I didn't like the B string... felt like there wasn't enough tension on it.

The Ibby was nice as well, 35 scale and the B was much more... can't think of the word, but I liked that B a lot more. But the neck.... man.... it was like trying to get my hand round a door cos it was so flat and wide. Not pleasant at all

I keep thinking I would love to play a 5-er as those low notes would be great for metal... so now and then I drop into the local music store to try some out, but I just can't get on with any of them.

I can't put my finger on what the problem is, but none of them feel right.

Has anyone else had this problem when trying to find a 5, or make the transition? What did you do? Just buy one and hope it grew on you, or stick with the 4's?

I've just ordered one of these but curious - does it have a headphone jack or can I just use an adaptor to plug my headphones in to the speaker jack (instead of the cab) for playing at night?

How much of a financial hit are we talking, if I were to sell it?

How much would I be looking to get for a 2009 $$ ? Bearing in mind that they're around £1100 new, and that's on the cheapest online stores.

That amp in your link is certainly awesome value for money! But the issue that I have is that I have a great combo amp at the moment, plenty loud enough etc, but it's just too heavy. it weighs 60lbs, which is the same as that cab in the thread. If I was fitter and healthier, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at that weight, but I have back and wrist problems, and want to avoid injuring myself any further by lugging around stuff that's way too heavy for me

I'm definitely gonna see if there are ways of going about everything without selling the Warwick, but it might be that I need to. I don't smoke, don't drink, don't really go out much, maybe once every couple of months, don't get takeaways often... it's just that money's tight at the moment.

Tough one ain't it? now you see why I'm so torn

Main reason for needing a new amp isn't just because of reliability but many that I'm using a hossing great heavy combo which isn't easy when you use it every week and live on the 2nd floor. Made even worse by my back and wrist problems... So I need a smaller, lighter amp to save doing myself an injury.

So, I can't afford the amp I want without the Warwick going, just don't seem to be able to pull the trigger...

Black basses you say? Hmm....

Here's my Kramer Baretta NT, and my Warwick Corvette $$. Both stunning to play, but feel and sound completely different.
