    Hi Evil Undead,

The only short scale set in ProSteels we do is the EPS170S (45-100). This is the brightest sounding string we manufacture in a short scale set.

As for the dead sounding E string, have you experienced this on multiple sets?

    Regards,

hey! yeah I've had it on every set, but the medium scales on my other bass have been fine across all strings. it's weird.

I wish the pro steels were available in short scale 40-95!

  2. I've been saving for ages for one of these Scott Whitley SWB-1 basses, since they first were introduced at the very end of last year.

One came up on the forum recently brand new, didn't have quite enough, so I was aiming for the current run due in July. Just about saved enough, went to the website to order, I've just missed it and July's batch is sold out! Gutted.

There's another batch due in September but that's an awfully long time away. Waaaaaaah :(

  3. Hey all. I really like d'addario short scale nickels, the 40-95 gauge, for the feel and tension. But they aren't bright enough really and go dead too fast. Plus the E is always kinda dead. Are they any short scale steels in similar gauge?

  4. I play at home only. Used to be in a band and it was fun, but the crap parts for me didn't outweigh the good parts - the drunks falling all over the stage, getting home late at night and unloading gear by myself (woman, living in a rough area, bit scary), playing the same songs every week (band members never wanted to break out of the 70's pub rock stuff that every band plays).

Then when the time came that I wasn't really physically capable of it any more, I found that I didn't really miss it that much.

Sounds a bit negative haha, but it's a different view at least.

Well, my ideal score would be something like a 2nd hand Overwater (or a Shuker), but there's not many going and this is going to take a bit more saving up:

I like G&L, Yamaha and Warwick as 'Mainstream' Brands.

I love that, what model is it?

  6. Well, lowering that bridge pickup really seems to have helped so much. I'm really grateful for everyone's comments and suggestions :) let's see how it goes, I might be back in a week with the same issue but so far so good!

I can recommend the cheaper Hipshot Licensed Import tuners. I fitted a set of these to my Sire V7 5-string and they're superb. One of my other basses has USA Hipshots and the Licensed ones are just as good.

I'll look into them :) thanks!

Is there no way to go back to the luthier with it and explain things to him..? He should know if here's anything amiss and how to fix it. Has this always been like this since you got it from him, or has ti been good up to now, but something has changed..?

Yeah it's been like this the whole time. I could, but he's miles away and would involve a very long car journey or postage, and I CBA with either to be honest :D

This was my thought as soon as I read "new neck".
It would be easy to measure the bridge position and no luthier is so perfect that they don't let an occasional slip through.

True. The intonation is a lot better since I lowered the bridge pickup though. The tuning is still up and down though.

You mentioned adjusting the height of the bridge pickup, but didn't mention the neck pickup.

It might be worth lowering it 2mm to match the change you made to the other and see if there's any improvement. It's free and reversible, so it can't hurt to try.

I should have said, I checked that one and it's 4-5mm, the bridge one has been lowered to match it

Have you got good output from the bass, and is the volume all the way up?
    [/quote]

    Yes all ok there

It seems to me that if you tune, then it goes out after a short time, the nut slots may be a wee bit on the tight side & gripping. Consider a pass or two of a file to give a smidgen of more width, and make sure the bottom of the slot is cut clean with an angle down toward the head with a good witness point.

Yeah? Maybe I'll give that a try but I'm not confident with that sort of thing
