1. We have a gig, 3 sets starting about 9ish. Our drummer told us he was quitting last week and this is his last gig so lets hope we can all act proffesional about it and not start fighting!

Then again I am in Scotland and after all the fuss when you lot won it the last time, its probably best.

    P.S. I hate rugby too.

  2. You need to check out Bass Culture: The John Entwistle Bass Collection.

    http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/208891/...re/Product.html

Brilliant coffee table book with comments on them all from Thunderfingers himself!

He had one of the first 5 electric basses ever made!

  3. Will definitely forget some here:

Thin Lizzy: Whiskey in the Jar

    The Who: The Seeker

Free: Alright Now (I know but people like it)

Red Hot Chilis: Under the Bridge

    Billy Idol: Rebel Yell

    Kasabian: Club Foot

    Eagles: Hotel California

    GnR: Sweet Child of Mine

    Lynard Skynard: Sweet Home

    Police: Cant stand losing you

    Beatles: Daytripper

Stones: Honkey Tonk Woman (Most boring one for me in the set)

    Lemonheads: Mrs Robinson

    Obligatory Mustang Sally

    Clapton: Layla

    Foo Fighters: Monkey Wrench

    Kings of Leon: California Waiting

    Blondie: One way or another

    REM: Whats the frequency Kenneth

    Zeppelin: Communication Breakdown

    Sabbath: Paranoid

    Primal Scream: Rocks

Man thats bad. Thats not even half our possible set list and I cant remember any more :)

  4.
hah... this'll confuse you... the sheet music I've got is notated in F

There's a five bar guitar cue and then the first bar of Bass has Dm and Bb for the two chords

The actual verse has the following chords:

    | C#m | G#m | C#m, C, D | E | F#m, B | E, A | F#m, B | E, A |

the transcription has been done from the "Layla and other assorted love songs" version.

The book it's in is "Great Rock For Bass Guitar" by Wise Publications
Well heres me showing my lack of theory! It sounds closer playing along in D instead of D#m. But that was the chord I was looking for. Dm to a Bb or D to an F. Both sounded fine from one recording to the other. We are going with D as thats what the Guitard learned too :)

  5. We decided to learn Layla and I have been learning the Clapton Version. Is the Derek and the Dominoes version in D or D#? I cant seem to get a copy of it but one tab I found is in D and I know how half the time, if not more, tabs are wrong.

The Unplugged version is in D and the original Clapton one I have (with the big instrumental at the end) is in D#.

It wont be hard to transpose it down a single fret but I always like to just turn up and knock it out first time

  6.
And now the same recording but this time JUST THE BASS..!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfDE-ZvfOwU...ted&search=

(Note: nothing happens until 00:53 or so... then all hell breaks loose..!)

I like some of the comments from the muppets who are convinced that's a Warwick bass...  :)
Check Post #4  way ahead of ye lol

  7.
Agreed. As I said earlier, dont start me off on The Who. I could be here some time.

If anyone doubts there prowess even in the later years, check out the Concert For New York on YouTube.

I hate to use youth lingo, but they "pwnd" that show.

I watched that. No-one even came close to the Who that night.

  8. I should probably go and hide then :) We do Mustang sally (the girls love it and someone ALWAYS asks for it), Teenage kicks and under the bridge.

We also do Sweet Home Alabama! Give the drunken public what they want is my view.

I think a few on this list are songs band members dont want to do. Not what bands are incapable of doing justice. None of the above are difficult to reproduce.

  9. I play in a band. We dont get as many gigs as I would like but that cant be helped. It certainly doesnt make me any more of a musician than anyone else here. To be honest I dont rate myself that highly on Bass as it is, The OP is probably technically better than I am so how does playing in a band make me any better than him?!

I will admit that I got a whole lot better once I started playing gigs but that doesnt change anything other than confidence in my own ability.

  10.
Just watch this
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3mi-bKtDGA

I didn't realise John had those custom spiders web explorer things whilst Keith was still around ...
This is a better version :)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfDE-ZvfOwU

I think the overall sound is much better. John stands out in the mix like he should lol

Oh if you like that get 'The Kids are Alright' DVD. Most watched DVD in my collection.

  11.
what's the serial? The first and fifth digits are the year and the 3 in between are the day in the year it was made.
I am sure its early 00's. He is away to work in Montrose for 4 days now so wont be able to get a look at it till then.

I think he might have found a buyer anyway. If anyone is interested let me know and I will see what the other offer is.
