1. if you want easy playability don´t look only at slim necks, but also asymetrical necks! Some necks could be thick but give you the slim feeling because of that. I prefer this solution because the quantity of wood in the neck affects the deepness of the sound.

Unfortunately there are no many basses wich have this solution adopted. One of these is, for istance, the Tobias Growler.

Re 62 jazz basses have a great neck as well..

2. I came across with this very interesting piece of gear, but I don´t know a lot about it, apart the fact it has very good feedbacks by acoustic guitarists.

My main interest is whether this unit can drive a power amp...somebody knows the answer??

3.
+1.. Mine's spot-on for headphone jammin', but I wouldn't dream of recording with it or using it live...
+1, it's my best travel mate, but nothing more (it's just sex LOL)

4. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=53835&st=0

50-60 quid for a compact preamp with 3 band eq, Q control, XLR+1/4 output, able to drive a power amp, ..is Dave Hall pulling our leg?!? It sounds so brilliant...

had 2 DHA but sold quickly, because I'm not a big fan of his boomy darky tuby sound(even though the sound was really like a kick in your mouth!!!). but this is different guys..

5. to Silent Fly: I already have a Custom italian Preamp, now I´m looking for a back up branded preamp
To zero 9: I had the PJB M500 head, really great stuff, but I slighty preferred the sound of my preamp, so I sold the PJB and bought a cheaper power amp. I assume the PJB Buddy has the some sound of the head..

EBS Microbass is really catching my attention indeed! I´m looking out on the bc market!

6. Hello everybody,

as the headline suggests I'm looking for a compact preamp which
in order of importance
0) has at least the XLR output
1) can drive a Power Amp --edited-- =D
2) has a great sound
3) is especially good on clean sounds
4) lays in the up to 200 pound zone
5) couples a 1/4'' output to the XLR one
6) is powered by both 9v battery and power supply

Of course I'm open to suggestions which don't satisfy all the points.

I don´t dislike warm tuby sounds.

my Power Amp (soundtech ps 802) has 10k ohms of Imput impedance and +4dbu (1.23v) imput voltage

any suggestion?

7.
yep, the Corvette $$ definately doesn't need any bottom end boost. it took me a while to figure out how to get the right sound from it, the key for me is to subtract from it, and not boost any of it, apart from maybe around 1k to bring out the high mids a bit. but i tend to eq out the boomy bit just above sub level and anything clangy at the top almost completely.

anyway i digress... both pedals are now *sold*, many thanks to everyone involved.
On my Corvette (j/j) I replaced the pups because I missed that 800-1k sting, and Seymour Duncan did the job greatly

8.
I had the original, really simple version. Sold it a few months ago (to DuneTuneJazz) because I wasn't using it enough.

Nice, very distinctive sound. Nothing (much) to go wrong.

One oddity was that the "default" setting according to the manual was All-up, i.e. everything to max, the idea being that you changed your sound by rolling off the knobs as required.
I remember the manual said to put the volume at max and the eq at minimum as starting setting. From there, if more "room" is needed, boost the eq..

9.
DO these players all play Fender? Like I said in my edit (which you may not have seen before your last post), maybe higher action is a benefit to Fender only?

Just a thought - I'm not knocking Fender BTW!
In italy a well known stereotype is : Fender play better off with med. action.

Still, I made my Fender jazz sing wonderfully with the lowest action obtainable. However, things get easier to mewhen I play basses with higher radius (flat fingerboard). Some Fender basses have a strongly rounded fingerboard, and this makes harder to find the right compromise between low action, straight neck, light but speed touch and having an effective sound.(and maybe this is one of the reasons why my main bass is not a jazz but not by Fender)
