bluesman

im a grimsby based bass player.....just wondered if anyone new any guitarists in this area who would be interested in forming a blues band? prefrably old school blues likes of buddy guy, hubert sumlin, muddy waters, willie dixon....to more modern likes of hendrix, gallagher, clapton, moore ect.....someone who can sing and play.....if any fellow bass players know any guitarists who fit the bill i can be contacted on this forum....cheers bob.

im really into this music.....listening to the coolest bass grooves that flow from artists such as aretha franklin, donny hathaway, curtis mayfield, the meters ect.....laying down these grooves the likes of jerry jemmott, tommy cogbill, willie weeks, george porter, chuck rainey, james jamerson, tommy mclure....does anyone share the same passion?? too me this is proper bass playing...i know that there are players who take the bass to new levels every day....but to me my bass heroes are why i wanted to pick up the bass....does the bass lose its role at times? or am i just an old stick in the mud? i listen to some modern players and i cant help but think theyve lost the plot....please dont crucify me its just my view....even the so called great jaco often leaves me cold...if you havnt heard some of the above guys check them out they too me really are the biz....cheers bob.

I HAVE THE VM JAZZ....AND THE CV JAZZ....BOTH PLAY REALLY NICE....NECK ON CV SEEMS SLIGHTLY THINNER AS A JAZZ NECK SHOULD....VM NECK FEELS CHUNKIER?? MIGHT BE ME....BUT ADDS TO THE APPEAL AND GIVES THEM BOTH A DIFFERENT QUALITY....WAS GOING TO GET THE CV PREC....BUT OPTED FOR THE JAZZES BUT THAT IS PURELY A PERSONAL THING....GO FOR IT AS FOR THE PRICE THEY ARE GREAT.....CHECK ON GOOGLE TYPE IN BASSWHISPERER YOU WILL FIND ED FRIEDLAND DOING A HEAD TO HEAD WITH THE CLASSIC VIBE RANGE SQUIERS AGAINST HIS OWN MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE FENDERS.....THE DIFFERENCE VERY MINIMAL.....HIS OWN WORDS, HE RATES THESE AS HIGH AS THE FIRST 82 SQUIERS....THIS IS WHAT DREW MY ATTENTION TO THEM.....THE VM JAZZ I HAVE PLEASED WITH ASWELL PERSONALLY I LIKE THE NOT SO GLOSSED NECK....BOTH GOT THERE OWN FEEL ECT....BUT I WANTED THE CV JAZZ FOR ITS ROSEWOOD NECK....AND THE VM JAZZ FOR ITS SMART BLOCK INLAYED MAPLE NECK....CHEERS BOB.

ive got the vm jazz.....new black 77 copy.....very nice....tempted too put some flat wounds on....any thoughts anyone?

i decided the 5 string grind wasnt me....so got my squier jazz back....its more me think im stuck in a time warp lol but many thanx too the folks who replied....

just bought my first 5 string....a peavey grind....any views anybody?? not sure if ive done right thing....love the playability...neck ect.....but always been squier/fender man.....think i was swayed for something a little diffrent....would like any views of any grind players.....thanx bob.

hi steve i love the blues to m8, im in the same boat as you.....just started playin again after 5 year lay off.....but really lost my bottle seems the longer you are out the game the harder to get back into it.....when i got my first bass about 10 year ago i gave myself a target to get in a band within 6 months.....i joined a local rock n roll band and cut my teeth with them, later i played with a couple of pop/rock bands......although a late starter im knockin 50 now.....i still feel like a begginer.....and really doubt my ability thesedays? best of luck....dont get yourself in a rut like me.....go for it.....cheers bob.

hi everyone just thought i would introduce myself to my fellow low enders....my bass heroes are the old school players like.....jerry jemmott, tommy cogbill, willie weeks, tommy mclure.....of cours james jamerson.....love that 60s r n b vibe....first player who made me notice the bass was dennis dunnaway [early alice cooper].....if you get chance check out the playin of dwain paite [early robben ford].....still a relative begginer myself even tho im knockin on a bit......big blues fan, 70s classic rock....but the bass opened my ears to a much wider spectrum.....i will stop wafflin.....cheers bob.
