1.
I could knit the ignorance in this reply into a nice jumper ! It is fair to say that an Ashdown flat is dull, but that's what the EQ is for. It doesn't take a lot of tweaking to make it just as bright as any other amp, and still have plenty of headroom on the EQ controls.

Not sure about the Hartke gear - never tried the VX cabs.
I tried an abm combo in a studio and no matter what I did the wool was there.
Trieda Mark Bass rig at a shop though.Left the EQ flat and used the VLE dial.Tone heaven!

2.
You should certainly also look at the Yamahas, specially if you don't mind used.
Looked, tried, deliberated, bought. One new Yamaha BB414 in Vintage White is running into my open arms as we speak.
I just wish that I did'nt try it through a Mark Bass head though,as it has given me bad GAS.
Oh,the price?£199.Bargain.

3. I have recently sold my Warwick with the view to buying a P bass. But as my son now needs a new car seat I am left with perhaps £230 to spend on a new bass to act as a spare.I am hoping that my budget restrictions mean that I buy a bass owing to the sound and comfort of it,not the name on the headstock.
I would be quite happy with a Squire or SX providing they feel and sound OK.

4. Leo Fender,a man who did not play bass or guitar, came up with the design for the Precision, the most copied bass ever.
Luck, skill, divine inspiration?Makes you wonder(or perhaps not, especially if you have anything better to do.).

5.
One pick-up two knobs and four strings - the magic has to come from YOU!

Sometimes you just can't beat simplicity.

I acquired a cheap and cheerful Encore P just before Christmas and now I'm gassing for a Bob Glaub (although it'll end up being a pimped SX lol).
I agree about the simplicity. Now all I have to do is convince the guitar player to ditch his pedal board(8 pedals and breeding fast)and just plug straight into his amp :)

6. After years of avoiding all things Precision and Jazz related I have had a conversion. Now I know what all the fuss is about.Let me explain;my guitar playing pal, despairing of me wanting to sell my $$ and get another as yet unspecified bass, lent me his old no-name p-bass copy. It's had a(bad)refinish in blue and has an EMG pup in it,and lives in his studio.
I plugged it in to my Trace head, fired up the 4x10,and even with old strings it cut through 2 vocals,2 guitars, drums and sax at rehearsals. My Status Groove felt and sounded, well,
less of a bass in comparison. So now I just need to sell the Warwick and then I'm going to get a P style bass of my own.SX,Squire or similar.
I love the simplicity of 1 pup,20 frets and passive wiring. :)

7.
its not going to be as good as a $$ in a million years. if you want to replace it with a p bass get a decent quality fender or a sandberg or something. i havent played the samick, but im pretty sure that youd regret getting rid of you $$ for it.
I find 24 fret necks uncomfy now,so 20 frets are ideal,but the $$ has a great tone though.Regrets,I'd have a few,but then again,too few to mention(sorry Frank)...

8. I've been offered a Samick P-bass as a spare by the guitar player in my band.It needs a set up and some new control knobs.
I've hardly ever played a P-bass let alone a Samick and I was wondering if they are any good.It would replace my Warwick $$ that I am trying to sell(see my advert)and be
used along side my Status Groove.
