1. I am in love with my Terror (especially through the still-amazing-to-me Midget) but there have been occasions - okay, venues - where I could use a weeny bit more EQ control.

The current solution is to set the Terror to preferred settings (bass 4, mid 7, treble 5) but also to use a Headway preamp (which I already had) to fine-tune out some lower mids and add a hint of upper mids:

Very pleased with the results so far!

  2. Arrow-shaped headstock plaque means it's '50s, not a '46, which would have had a T-shaped logo... and it's a Model B, not a Deluxe BD, which would have a flip-top cover over the headstock.

*pedant mode off* Still, not a bad price for a bakelite in the UK even though the '30s string-throughs with the 1.5" pickup are the ones to have.

    **okay, pedant mode really off**

  3. Rupert at http://www.bearstraps.com/ in Deptford, London will do any of his straps in custom length.

They're very traditional - mostly plain one-piece, '60s short pads or buckle adjust types in black or brown, though he does sometimes do one-offs.

Ultimate quality, and great prices. A 5.5cm-wide plain leather handmade strap is £24!

    Totally recommended.

  4. Mystified by John Entwistle at No 1. Obviously a great band, obviously a steam train of a player, but compared to the soul greats... it just doesn't stack up.

Mind you the Ox topped Guitar & Bass's best bassist poll of a few years ago, and that was a readers' postal vote.

  5. I'm not sure Wunjo's is exempt from Denmark St disease... they sold a mate of mine a Gibson L-00 acoustic that was actually a re-badged Kalamazoo, as should have been obvious to them from the ladder bracing and lack of truss rod. In that case the money wasn't too bad, but I think it's buyer beware everywhere in the guitar market these days.

  6.
No offence but you're techs a noob, what cools it is static pressure rather than cfm, and most cfm are lying anyways :)
Oh, I'm not offended, I couldn't tell 'static pressure' from a rolling doughnut, but I'll be sure to tell my guy he's a noob and shouldn't do stuff like this :)

  7. +1 for Roqsolid.

I ordered a cover for a Barefaced Midget online last Sunday evening… come Thursday, it was at the door. Amazingly good turnaround! :)

Though p'raps not quite as thickly padded as I'd hoped, it's really toughly made, and perfect in terms of size.

I asked for the baffle board-pocket option (the cab being cloth-grilled) and was relieved that Roqsolid got it on the correct side (as noted above, the Midget has an off-centre carry-handle).

Actually with a thin board inserted in place the handle opening is pulled just a few mm's off-centre… and I'd say the size of the handle opening could do with being a tad more generous anyway… but it's no problem.

    Overall... recommended.

  8. Agreed! After re-valving, my TB gives a sound I simply don't want to change.

A guitarist friend whose ears I trust (full-time pro since the ’60s) came up after Sunday's gig and waxed lyrical about about my just-finalised Terror/Midget combination.

"It's just so… so…" he said, waving his hands about and making vague shapes in the air, "… well, it's just so round."

    Result :)

  9.
It looks like a relative of this amp;

So I guess it might have been labelled Gem.
The winner!

Here's a Gem Saturn B50... obviously very close...

  10.
looks like it more man but all the tuners are all on the same side of the head stock and the head stock is more fender sized, know i meeeeeeen?
Judiciously circumventing your admittedly inspiring vernacular, my final guess is an Ibanez TR50.

    Here's the full eBay ad....

Been racking my brains on this one. Logo rings a bell... but stumped.

  12. Veeery interesting. Your JV Jazz is historic. My Precisions are but a humble JV1 '57 and a JV2 '62. I didn't realise before that covers disappeared with the logo change (I seem to recall a big-Fender-small-Squier J with no cover holes - that I missed, alas - but maybe t'was an anomaly, or I'm mistaken).

Pretty nuts to be talking about these when we could be discussing real '52 neck profiles but, hey, I'm just chipping in where I can :)

PS Bad news. The excellent Mr 99ster uses the black and white Elvis pic...
