1. Just got one of these for practice use as I'm a bit sick of lugging a 6x10 and an Ampeg around, I must admit for the price this is a really good little amp.

I will definitely will using it for some of the smaller venues that my band plays at.

I've not really played with the toneprint much yet, so I can't tell you how good it is or isn't.

I think TC Electronic have built a pretty solid sounding little combo, well worth a try if you don't want to spend a fortune.

  2. I've had a couple of nice 5 string basses in the past but found that I wasn't really using the low B, not that because it confused me after playing 4 string for so long, so I always ended up getting rid of them.

Recently I got another 5 string and strung it E to C, for me personally it is far more useful than the low B with the music that I play, but that's purely my own personal preference.

Don't think that sort of thing works with custom ones, no comparison point, so everyone is cagey about it. The original price is for a custom made for you item, which ceases to apply when resold, as its just an odd item then.

    Exactly, hence my dilemma.

I'm sure there'll be others along shortly to confirm this - Custom basses are rarely worth (read "sell for") anything like what you pay to have them built, after all, most buyers are after a "name" on the headstock. An instrument's rarity and what it means to you doesn't always relate to it's market value(sale price)..The only way to find out really is to put it up for sale and let it find it's own level..

Is this the Ray Cooper in your sig? Isn't he based in Hertfordshire??

    Nice paint by the way..

Yes it is the same one, and yes he's based in Hertfordshire.

I'm not desperate to get rid but it doesn't get played much these days. I know that selling a custom instrument isn't an exact science, you know what you're getting when it says Fender, Stingray or Gibson on the headstock.

I guess I'll have to see.

  5. Hi Everyone,

Not sure where to post this so don't shout at me if it's in the wrong place.

I have a custom bass that I've had for around 10 years now, and to be honest it's not getting the use that it deserves.

It's pretty niche as it's a Flying V, but how do I realistically value it? I know what I paid for it and realise that I would never get that, has anyone else had a similar dilemma?

    (Has gold pots on now)

  6. A few months ago I posted on here asking if anyone had strung their 5 strings E to C instead of B to G.

I was given lots of really useful advice, as per the usual on here.

Well after having two failed attempts at playing 5 string before I decided to give it a final go but with the E to C tuning.

Why I didn't do this before God only knows, (he says through gritted teeth after selling a lovely Stingray 5 a few years ago for £800, birdseye maple neck and fingerboard, piezzo bridge, the works - not that I'm bitter!).

For me personally I've found it a revelation and although I'm a pretty average bassist it has inspired me and made me push myself again in terms of practicing and playing, (oh to be 18 again).

I never struggled with 5 strings before because of my small hands, more of not really having much use for the low B, so it just ended up as an elaborate thumb rest.

If there's anyone out there who is thinking of ditching their 5 string and going back to 4 then I'd seriously give this a go first, a few tweaks to the saddles and a minor truss rod adjustment and I was sorted, I'm now happier than a pig in @#&%

At least the smoke covered the smell of men and their disgusting Lynx aromas. Pubs and venues smell horrible now.

I remember going into a pub next to Old Trafford a week after the smoking ban came in, (I was going to see Genesis and not Man Utd before anyone has a go - or you might think Genesis is worse), what hit me was the overpowering stench of body odour and stale beer, not sure what's worse, but as cancer has killed almost every smoker in my family then I guess a bit of sweat never hurt anyone long-term.

  8. For sale is my lovely Sandberg JM4.

If it's so lovely why am I selling it? Because I have 2 Yamaha's that I love more and it's not getting played.

    Very good condition.

    Comes with hard case.

    Now rebranded the TM4 - http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/basscat-overview/calt-series/caltm

    After £800.00.

Would be interested in trades against a nice 5 string.

Afraid some (perhaps many) Americans don't quite fathom that shipping to Europe for them is about the same amount of hassle. I actually bought a bass from the US before, where the sender did not want to ship to me. So what I did was use a forwarding company..... i.e. the guy sent to them, they checked if all was well and sent me a picture, they repacked and sent via courier (saved me hugely on costs, as they had wholesale discount).

Can send details if need be, they did a good job for me.
I've done similar as well, I have a friend out there where I've shipped stuff to before where the person did not want to ship to the UK, doesn't make sense really, they were happy to take my money and ship it nearly 3000 miles from one side of the States to the other then my friend did the same again, barking mad really :-)

  10. Nice collection, I love the BB1500A as it is almost identical to my old TRB4, same pickups and electronics, although I indulged and put some TI Flats on it and it sounds lovely. I did have a BB2004 and 2005 but just didn't get on with them to be honest, I always end up going back to my TRB4.

I'm sure you'll get your hands on a 2000 as some point.

  11. You're not wrong, that's the way it normally works, get something you like because you can't find the bass that you really want and then one appears on here or Ebay when you don't have the money, if you tried to sell another bass to fund it then it would be gone and you're back to square one, the never ending GAS circle :-)

I see you like your Yamaha's, a bit like myself?

  12. I don't know why he won't ship outside the US, wherever it's going it needs to be packed the same? I've bought a few basses from the US in the past when the pound was stronger, as long as you pay the shipping and insurance I can't see the problem. Have you asked the guy if he'd be prepared to ship outside the US? They might do. (If he is just make sure you have enough to pay HM Customs as well - robbing ********).
