Are you sure you want a 4 Ohm speaker? According to the manual, it's 12W into 8 Ohms. Personally, I'd play safe and get an 8 Ohm one.

I currently carry my B2 and various instrument/speaker/kettle leads, bits & bobs, PSUs etc in a holdall type bag that's not big enough for the B9. If I can get them all in the same bag as the B9, it'll still only be a single bag to carry.

In what way is it too big - internal dimensions? Seems to me that it's smaller than the Gator bag that Mudpup et al are using happily, or is it just the mahoosive looking pouch on the front that makes it seem bulky?

Just curious really - I think I'm leaning towards the smaller Gator 2110 at the mo'.

Dunno about the EBs, but I'm pretty sure the MAGs max quoted output is into a 4 Ohm load.

So the MAG300, fer example, will only do about 150-200W into the integral 8 Ohm speaker/s. you'd need to add another 8 Ohm extension cab to get the full whack.

I can't do that. I don't have my bass particularly low (buckle rash around the mid bottom half of the body) but the bass sits higher up when I'm sitting down, which I find uncomfortable.

If it didn't take me so b%**#y long to learn and work stuff out, I'd do it all standing up...

I've not used the bass stuff, but I did own a guitar combo for a while many years ago - but only because I won it in a competition! It was truly awful.

My current gigging rig is a Tanglewater Classic J through a LH500 and a Barefaced Compact, and I can't see me changing it any time soon.

Also have an HA2500 which I keep mainly as a backup, but I'd happily use it as my main amp.

Remove the 10 or so dinky little screws from the top panel, and it lifts right off. Prepare to be amazed at how little "stuff" is in there.

Once you're in, the pots are easy to get at as I recall - just poke the flexi tube into a gap in the pot casing, and give it a squirt. Repeat as necessary.

While you're in there, you might want to make sure that the valve is seated properly, just in case that's contributing to the noise.

Me too. I'm putting a bitsa P together at the mo', and it's getting the D/G pup more neckwards than the E/A.

Looking at the photo on a proper screen now, rather than my 'phone, and it looks like the woodwork at the bottom of the driver - in the center, above the port slot - has been removed...possibly to accommodate a replacement driver ?

Do you have access to a multimeter ? A quick google suggests that the DC resistance will be roughly 80% of the nominal impedance. I've just put a meter across a spare (known good) 8 Ohm Ashdown driver that I have here, and it measures between 6 & 7 Ohms. (Less than 8, more than 4...)

I had one of these until fairly recently. Bought it from here as not working - in fact, it did work, but not very often! Lots of high pitched squealing, crackling etc...but in the short periods that it did work, I really liked the sound, so I took it to a local amp guy. He traced the problem to a combination of a dodgy pot, which no amount on Servisol would cure so he replaced it, and a dry joint on the preamp board or something.

It also later developed an problem with the lead from the internal speaker to the jack that plugs into the speaker socket on the back, that led me to believe that the speaker was blown. It wasn't, which is why I happen to have a spare driver here...) Replaced the lead & jack plug and it was fine.

Only reason I sold it really was the weight - it must weigh 30+KGs, and I can't be doing with that these days.

I always preferred the old front ported Ashdown cabs to the newer rear ported designs. Whether that was the reason, or whether it's the amp itself, but IMO my old MAG400 was a definite class above later MAG rigs that I've used.

I think (corrections welcome) that they originally had the blue coned driver, so I'd be wondering if this has had the speaker replaced at some point.

In which case, I'd check to make sure it's an 8ohm one in there before connecting an additional cab.

Just completed a slightly convoluted deal whereby Pablo, whom I've never met or had any dealing with before, sent me a rather large sum of money, so that I could go buy an Akai deep Impact from a guy just down the road from me, which I then forwarded on to Pablo.

The whole thing was a pleasure from start to finish - with prompt, informative and friendly comms throughout, and everything done exactly how he said he'd do it, when he said he'd do it.

Deal with confidence folks.

The only downside? I'm now GASsing for a Deep Impact !
