1. This is now for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/182204-gorgeous-precision-style-bass/
2. I have a beautiful 3 tone sunburst P-Bass outline bass for sale. Really fantastic condition (as you can see from the pictures). Very smooth to play. As discussed here: http://basschat.co.u...whats-it-worth/ Currently on Polish auction site Allegro (http://allegro.pl/gi...2500781556.html), and I'm looking for 1250 PLN (which is around £250 GBP). Postage to the UK would be around the 50 quid mark, although I would prefer to sell through Allegro and within within Poland, if possible -- that way I can send it very economically. Essentially it is a high quality copy of a Fender American Vintage '62 Precision Bass®, except I have replaced the pick-guard with a very nice, high quality vintage white one. Please ask away with any questions. Cheers! 3. I have some vague recollection the parts might be from Allparts - I saw a post mentioning that company and the name rings a bell. How would I check? Do all parts have distinctive marks or serial number anywhere? Don't want to take the bass apart if it won't tell me anything anyway!
4.
Going by your given location, I imagine the going rate in Poland & UK are quite different, where do you hope to sell it? The market is slow, if you put it up on here for £350 (sounds reasonable to me) see how much interest you get. Shipping costs need to be considered if the bass is in Poland of course. Cheerz, John
Just trying to actually work out how much it's worth, then will try and decide if it's worth selling here or in Poland or - if it's even worth selling at all!
5.
Why a string tee on the back of the headstock instead of the common strap button?!!
Hmm, that's a good question. Not sure. Does anyone really attach a strap there anyway!?
6.
The body join position says signature. They are very high quality instruments, on a USA standard type level, if someone was to open the case on one of these and tell you its a £1500 bass, you would not doubt them bar the missing name, they have that awe that a real America precision should have when you play them.
Can you elaborate on this? What do you mean by "signature"? Also, not sure what you mean by "body join". Forgive me - I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to electric basses!
7. Any more thoughts? If I included a decent Hiscox Flight case (as pictured), do you think it would be remiss of me to sell it for what I paid (around £350)?
8.
It wasn't one of the "Signature" brand basses from Goert Lamperts, was it?
No. This was from an e-bay seller called "perfectly.good.guitars", who doesn't seem to be on e-bay any more. I remember his PayPal account name was David Kelly.
9. Hello, I have a Precision style bass which I'm planning to sell, but wonder if you lovely people here could help me with a valuation. It was purchased from e-bay in 2009 from a seller who assembled guitars from OEM parts. As far as I remember it's an alder body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. It is strung with La Bella Flatwounds. I think I paid £365 at the time, though I#m not 100% sure and can't find the e-bay auction e-mail now. I'm not sure what the pickup is, and the bridge just seems to be standard P-Bass style. When I purchased it, it was all styled out like a James Jamerson bass (pickguard cover etc.), but I have since replaced the pick-guard with a really nice vintage white one (from Axes R Us). (When I bought it it had a Fender decal on the headstock which, feeling it was a bit distasteful, I removed.) It really is a gorgeous finish and a beautiful rich colour. I'm only selling as I bought it as a backup bass and its no longer required. I'm exclusively playing double bass these days. It plays really nicely. As low as it can go without excessive buzzing. A few very minor surface scratches and a couple of really minor dings. So, what do you think? How much should I be asking for this bass? Cheers! Douglas.
10. I continue to have a lot of interest in this bass, but no firm takers yet. I think it is in quite a tricky price range - a bit too expensive for amateurs and a bit too cheap for heavy-weight orchestral players. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know it's still here...!
11.
Hi Douglas, Bryants are great basses for the money. I know a few guys that play them as their 2nd instruments. I'd definitely be checking it out if i needed another bass. Have you advertised it on www.musicalchairs.info yet? That would be my first suggestion (it's where a lot of orchestral musos list their basses and I sold my Mentec bass via that site last year). Also because of the price, it should be of a lot of interest to students so knock up a good PDF advert and send it to the relevant departments at the royal academy, royal college, Guildhall, royal northern, trinity, royal Scottish and any other music college you can think of. Good luck with the sale
Thanks for the advise and will check out musicalchairs.
12. I've had some serious interest in this bass, but no confirmed takers yet. So, for now - it's still available!
13. I will be down in London in the second week of December. I won't necessarily have my bass with me, but if someone shows genuine interest, I will consider bringing my bass down to offer a trial.
14. Download an extra high resolution images of the full front and rear of the body here: Front: http://douglaswhates.com/bassimages/bryant...t_front_XXL.jpg (9702px x 3921px) Rear: http://douglaswhates.com/bassimages/bryant...nt_back_XXL.jpg (9660px x 3912px) WARNING: these files are VERY big (around 14MB each) but you can see the instrument in a lot of detail.
15. Finally got around to making a quick pizz. demo: Douglas. P.S. Sorry Keith, not particularly interested in trades.
16. I'll be taking new photos of this bass and hopefully recording some audio clips very soon. In the meantime, if anyone would like to come to Glasgow and have a look/try it out - you're more than welcome!
17. Anyone with experience of selling double basses care to make any suggestions about where to advertise my bass for sale? I don't particularly want to sell it on commission through a dealer - would rather try and sell direct.
18.
As Paul is retired from 'full time' production it should be a great investment.
You're making me not want to sell it...!
19.
Ive also got a bryant bass and they are great instruments for really reasonable money. I would recommend them to anyone and this looks like a great instrument. Good luck with your sale.
I had a budget of £8500 when I bought this bass, but felt the Bryant offered as good a sound as anything I tried. Sure, a couple of basses I played may have been cosmetically superior, but the Bryant won the prize for sound! Amazing value, for sure. Why am I selling? As my playing style has evolved, I am finding that the Bryant is just too big a bass for my needs. It is a big sounding orchestral bass when bowed, and has that Ray Brown thing in abundance when plucked (it's an *amazing* bass for walking), but that doesn't really fit my needs any more. I play a lot of quieter chamber stuff, and I'm looking to get a more bass more suited to that. If I had the money, I'd keep the Bryant. I'm sure this will be perfect for someone.
20. Hi there, I am selling my Paul Bryant bass. It's his Gofriller copy. I bought this in late 2006 direct from Paul. It has very nice finely geared tuning machines, which I paid a bit extra for over the stock model. It has received around £800 worth of improvements over the past couple of years - undertaken by one of the UK's top luthiers. It has a nice new high quality larger bridge (the one Paul fitted was, apparently, too small for the instrument!), rather lovely looking ebony adjusters, the finger board has been smoothed out, the nut adjusted, the machines correctly adjusted and refitted, sound post adjusted and other minor modifications and adjustments - all for the better. I would suggest it is sounding and playing much better than it was when I got it from Paul -- much improved and refined. In terms of a sale price, given the work I have had done and the improved sound, reliability and playability, I have been advised that I should be looking for somewhere around the same price I paid for it new (£5,500). So, looking for something around the £5000 mark. (EDIT: now considering all reasonable offers for a quick sale) It has a few of the usual scuffs and bumps on the edges, but nothing at all serious. The worst bit cosmetically is on the back where I accidentally scratched up against it with my belt for a full gig (see last picture for detail). It was serviced earlier this month and I'm pleased to report it is playing very well with no unwanted buzzes or rattles. I hope to get some soundclips here in the next few days (EDIT: added - see a few posts down!). Concert video: High quality audio here: http://owduo.com/tagged/audio Any questions, please get in touch. I'm based in Poland, but often in the UK. Also able to travel to parts of mainland Europe quite easily. Thanks, Douglas. 21. Just under 48hrs to go and not much interest - hope the bidding picks up
22. Just put my Schertler cab up for sale on e-bay. Starting price £275, no reserve. Great for those double bassists amongst you, or even those requiring a very clean electric bass sound... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200474566149
23.
I've just found out that one of my basses may be a James William BRIGGS of Wakefield. I know he was making basses around 1880. Does anyone have any more info about this maker. I'd never heard the name before. The Major
Well, if it is a Briggs, you could be holding tens of thousands of pounds worth of bass in your hands! Give Tony Houska a bell at the Contrabass Shoppe, he'll soon fill in the details for you.
