Blah blah yeah you are probably right -
Ah ....
A recent thread on buying basses in China I found an expats website that said many of the Fenders in China are fakes so that may be something you need to look at... -
Tricky.
Maybe if you devide the question into genres.
The thing is that for everyone who thinks Mustang Sally/So What/Master of Puppets/Bach Prelude and Fuges/Roundabout/School days/Higher ground/Lessons in Love/Portrait of Tracy/Something is compulsory there will be loads of players who never need to or want to play that track..
So.. Nothing comes into the "lines everyone should know" category but that list is a start -

That's what got me into Zappa in the first place.
Specifically hearing "Stairway to Heaven" on the radio.
I didn't get it 'til then. Plus the album has some nice accessible cover versions as a gentle introduction to the original stuff. -
Jeeez..I would. I'd be horrified.

ha ha Well not necessarily all of the time -
Thanks for posting that OG.
Awesome to the max, like, totally.
Fixed that for you..
It's a desert island* disk for me.

That sounds magnificent to me... I'd not worry too much about my sound if it was like that... -
At least there was no bingo at this one!
No Bingo??? What kind of deviant social club was that?? -
I never expect, or feel I deserve, compliments, appreciative audiences, record deals, money, or an easy life. All I feel is great privilege to be able to play some good music with some really good musicians who, for some reason trust me with their music and, I think, like me as a person.
I want to enjoy myself, feel friendship and rapport with the other band members while on stage and off, and get to express myself occasionally as a musician, and more importantly as a PERSON, within a musical context. The primary thing is doing something of "quality" but that is highly subjective, I only like playing with bands that produce good songs, with good musicianship and who look good on stage.
I have met musicians in the past who are really up their own arses and come across like they are going to save the world with their music, and they DESERVE to be heard because they are GOOD and INNOVATIVE. Bollocks. They don't appreciate what a gift it is for someone to lend you their ears for a hour and derive some enjoyment from it, let alone some inspiration.
Yup Just happy to get away with having musical fun in a room full of people having fun.
In the "Up their own" department, Poor ol' Paul Weller on the wireless this week talking about his Mercury nomination. He thinks he's "Cu''in' edge, chew chew" and made Wake Up the Nation to add edge to contemporary music.
Eh? It's good (for a 50 year old) but sounding like various 70's heroes - Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, and Jerry Lee lewis etc does not make for a cutting edge album... -
First gig with new band last night - a mix of rock & roll, country and blues. Typical Social Club crowd, smattering of applause every now and then, no-one taking any real interest, then when we finished everyone coming up and telling us how good it was and are we coming back! I've now played social clubs in London, Suffolk and Sussex - are they the same the world over?
Yup
Type 3 Audience:
Arms crossed, looking angry, sat in the same seat every Saturday night for 10 years
"Go on then, fookin' entertain me. We 'ad that Abba Gold here last week. They were good" -
Love Sir Horace's stuff...
Amongst the many bass players that I learned from, copied and ripped off there was one who is little known.
In the 60's John Mayall did two albums with a "light" band, Acoustic guitar, sax/flute, Mayall and bass.
They are called "Empty Rooms" (studio) and "The Turning Point" (live)
The Bass player was Steve Thompson and I've never heard anything by him since but I played the two albums constantly ever since.
Here's "California" from The Turning Point.

Here's my quickie, rushing through transcription, originally that's a synth bassline, and it's just wicked..
I'll bring you more of stuff like this.. You wouldn't believe, how much wicked pop/synth bass stuff is out there..
Nice one.
Nice wifebeater too -
Saw that but assumed it was a Photoshoped picture ..
Corian has always appealed to me as a material that could be good for bodies. Inert, Oil and Acid resistant, won't stain, no expansion or contraction. Bit heavy but a nice bit of milling could reduce that.

I have a Corian/brass laminated nut on my Shuker .. Sounds great .. I'd not like a whole bass made from it though -
I bought this. It arrived the other day beautifully packaged.
This bass is exacly what Si said it was.
It's a very "together" instrument..... feels just lovely. Plays and sounds like a good P should, with that added "something" that you don't get with a new instument.
Gigged with it last night and even though it was bought as a back up, I can see it getting some serious action! Very light too, which is is important when your playing a 2.5 hour set!
I'm chuffed.
Thanks Si!
A touch of Sudocrem should sort out that chuffin', Jesso.
Glad you like the ol' girl. I have a feeling that one will just get better with age ....
Thanks mate.

Nice one Nick ..
have a bump -
im suprised there has been no interest in this..have a BUMP OG!!
Yes so am I ..
I think it's a bit too close to summer holidays for bass GAS in general -
If it's a pub audience then they would probably have heard Superstition go into Play that funky muzak about 500 times...
Anyone else noticed the bass was readvertised yesterday on gumtree even though the advert is still running on ebay?
That's OK as long as the ebay auctions says "also advertised elewhere so may end early"
Edit: Ah just re-read the ebay link and it's a Jim Fullacarp description .... I'd only tust him if I could actually go to his place to get it and have a good look first. -
Ooooh! exciting
