1. I'm considering a move from super light weight combo to light weight head and cab.

Top of my amp list is the ampeg PF500, OTB then markbass and Genz Benz

When it comes to cabs I'm struggling to get passed the barefaced specs the problem is it's so tough to choose without listening.

Are there any Midget or Compact users in the Bristol area that would be able go let me have a play through your rig. Or even just let me know when your playing out so I could come hear it in context

Much appreciated
Matt

2. Super light 500w combo, driven by the Puma 500 head, non-removable

Interested in trades not cash
very interested in orange or ampeg offering's (head and cab's or combos)
Super GASSING for Genz Benz Streamliner after reading Shep's review
Big Orange Terror Bass and Cab Gas

I find the eq just doesn't hit the right spot for me, would be spot on for a slapper or 5 string/active plauyer I reckon this has the modern/HiFi vibe and I'm playing pick style in a indie/post-punk band

pics to follow

3. Interested in all things bass but especially Low Gain Overdrives at the moment

As well as being a great, warm sounding compressor, if you crank the pre-gain, you can get quite a cool valve overdrive, if you're into that kind of thing.

Will Sell for £SOLD

4. I'm interested in the polish love at low gain will it still retain lows
will it get into the sort of sound that i posted above without a tone control to control the highs
If so I might might have to dive on it in the forum

My concern with the Phat Phuk is that i use a solid state D class amp and I don't want to boost the signal too much just slightly warm it up

Although the SFT, Mad professor, EBS and sound great i'm most likely gonna have to wait for a 2nd hand one to come up in my price arrange.

The Way Huge is available new for similar price and obviously the polish love is much cheaper

5. From what I've found about the polish love it seems and sounds to be very high gain

I'm really looking for low gain sounds, I've just pulled the trigger on a fender sub-lime for fuzzier more distorted sounds, i'm really lookin for the warmth from my OD

I'd like to hear more about the problems you've had with the EBS and Pork Loin Dudewheresmybass, also when people talk about grittiness I'm not sure what I'm after more smooth warmth so I'm not sure if the hardwire would be for me?

The SFT sounds promising but hard to come by and probably very expensive?

6.
If you want a sound like a nice tube amp, why not try a tube amp sim - Tech 21 VT Bass?

A nice budget OD pedal is the Bogdan Polish Love if you can find one - it's not all that different to the EBS, a bit warmer IMO.
Hows the Polish Love for Low end retention,
Where do I look for them

7. I'm looking for a low gain Bass overdrive, with no loss of lows and a really warm round sound

I'm not after bossey attacky highs but a smoth warm sound

Listening to clips and YouTube vids even most Bass overdrive pedals tend to be more guitar attack like rather than overdriving the bass sound like a nice tube amp would.
The nearest to the sort of sound I'm after is this clip of the EBS Multidrive

EBS Multidrive clip

The problem with videos is although they give a good indication of the sound of the pedal they don't hightlight specifics. For instance for me one of the most important things is is it possible to keep close to unity volume and not experience Bass loss when kicking in the pedal. My current overdrive pedal the Zeibek Geminidrive is really guilty of this as is my Rat even with Reutz mod and leaves me not wanting to play it, also the Geminidrive is really hard to get a decent blended sound out of without a significant volume boost

So is the EBS what I'm after, are there any alternatives that I should look into
I'm also considering the Way Huge Pork loin as it gets lots of praise for retaining low's and also has blend control and is a bit cheaper and easier to get hold of.

All opinions appreciated

8. [s]Zvex Vextron series Fuzz with wave control, impedance variability to work well with active and passive bass's plus three sub switching for greater control over the low frequencies.

I reckon this is better more tweakable than the Woolly mammoth and if I still needed that synth bass sound would be all over this but am in a different band now and need different textures i reckon.

Could be tempted by trades for anything really
particularly after a warm non bass sucking tubey overdrive or fuzz

Sold[/s]

9.
Yh when i mean professional musician i meant the Stuart Pearce, Phil Mulford, Laurence Cottle busy bee types. What made me think is iv seen a few great players at ACM doing master classes and when they explain what they do it seems so simple. Laurence Cottle said for him it was hours of practice and playing lots of different genres when gigging that got him to where he is now. So is it literally just having the motivation to really want to do it that separates people from going and doing it or keeping it as a hobby?

Also i do completely appreciate the not wanting to make your hobby your job thing.
not it isn't literally just having the motivation
The term professional is used more generally to denote a person who performs commercially in a field typically reserved for hobbyists or amateurs.

Professional = does it for a living

Amateur = does it for fun
true
Professional just means you get paid for doing what you do. All the talent in the world means very little if nobody really wants to listen to you. I remember really looking forward to seeing Stevie Vai and my mind wandering after a few songs is they were not 'tunes'. Serving the song is always better than pleasing your own musical self.
Very true

You can totally find non-paid musicians to match any paid musician

In my mind the only thing separating those who want to be get paid and those who do is opportunity

The two things that every musician that makes money from their playing had is opportunity and desire

it similar to what people say about luck

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity

No matter of preparation without a change will get your there
equally if you can't deliver when you get that change your not gonna get anyway (now deliver can mean playing note perfect or it can mean bringing something else)

10. yea I'd read that thread before and a fair few of the others I'm pretty much spent the last week or more geeking out on here and talk bass

I guess I'm more interested in how the the terror bass head will sound through the compact
particularly in comparison to the SP210 (which is a sound I'm pretty hot on)

and also any benefits the compact may have over the SP210 and vice versa

11. So I've been playing bass properly in bands for 2-3 years now after being a hamfisted guitarist with a spare bass lying around

In the first band I joined playing bass the keyboard player owned a bass amp so i played that for the 2 years I was with the band
it was one of those behrigner ultra bass heads (350 watt I think) and 15" inch cabs
I have to say i was never really happy with the amp even when I upgraded from a cheap 2nd hand tatty bass to a fender mexican precision special

So I've recently joined a new band and figure i need a to get myself an amp, i've played through a ton of heads at varios shops (never the best place to judge)
Out of the tc450 AND bh300, various ashdown offerings, mark bass Little Mark and fender combo I've can't get away from how good everything sounds played through the orange terror bass and SP210, the only thing that came close was the Ampeg portaflex PF500, but I only got to play this through the portaflex 15" cab and I've always had a thing against 15" cabs so at the moment it would take a hurd of bulls to dissuade me from the Orange Terror bass 5oo head

My Dilema is do I get the sexy looking matching Isobaric Cab that orange does (i only have the money left for one cab so ti's a choice between the SP212 or 212) Which have always sounded great when I played them in shops. my concern is will small cab like the SP210 really be able to pull of gigging in a live band situation and that

And then there's this nagging thought in the back of mind that I can't get away from 'What would the terror bass sound like through a barefaced compact'

Barefaced seem to get a lot of love round here and all I've heard is pretty rave review on the stuff although bigger than the SP210 it is lighter (which seems to get more important each year that goes bye)

Any views/opinions or directions appreciated

Comes with soft carry case, manual and certificate

Looking specifically for a trade for a Tiny Terror 500 watt Bass Head (or something similar)

Other wise would consider selling for around £375

thanks

13. I saw them play last night in Bristol, the band are phenomenal and Corrine an absolute legend, her voice is incredible and depth and beauty of her songwritting is stunning.

Really loved Kenny's playing, he and the drummer where locked on through some awesome pauses and changes in speed that really added to the tracks.
Plus his bass sound and synth effects were awesome, I would love to know what effects he was using aswell as the rest of his rig there were some great sub bass and synthbass sounds coming form his board.
