1.
So you can sand off “Squire” and put on “Fender”? I wouldn’t bother mate, the bass looks nice as it is so I wouldn’t potentially ruin the finish by doing something like that. As you said, it’s all about playability so the badge shouldn’t matter.
As for mods, the first I’d be looking to get would be a BadAss bridge if I were you  Tortoise shell pickguards also look the nuts on ‘burst Jazz basses, but I see you’re already on that one :)
hi ben,

i was thinking about getting a badass2 bridge, being a massive miller fan too but ive heard they dont fit under the bridge cover...true???

i will defo get a tortoise shell scratchplate and the thumbrest but im still in between getting a badass bridge or a bridge cover

    opinions??

also a maple neck with dots or blocks???

    thanks

  3. im so happy,

i brought two new pots today, a soldering iron, solder, a new set of 40-100 strings and lemon oil...

and got to work. i firstly drew the old wiring diagram , and then took the old pots off, cleaned the chrome plate, and bolted the new pots into position, then soldered all the wires back on, then cleaned the frets with brasso, lemon oil on the fingerboard and fast fret bringing the fretboard up like new, the i used turtle wax to polish the striped down neck and body before assembling all the parts back on, including tuners, scratchplate e.t.c.

i then put on the strings and tuned it in, i have to admit i am so proud of the work i have done, its the first major job i have done on my basses and when i plugged it in and i worked i was over the moon :).

i will try and get some pics up soon

thanks for all the advice and stuff

  4. out to play jazz: I spose you didnt buy one because your now used to having headless, graphite basses...im a similar person i would stop myself from buying a status for that very reason, thanks for the comment though mate, nice basses you have too i prefer the older style status' espescially headed... :)

stingrayfan: thanks for the comment about the jaydees mate, your right about the early tapes album my dads bass sound exactly the same, funny for a bass that was made like 18 years after mark's

thanks everyone so far for the comments

    keep em coming

  5. the other day i took my jazz apart to tclean maintain and set i tup , on the way i filled and painted the strap whold and created another one, as the old one was getting loose, however when i attempted to take the precision pull off style knobs off, i pulled two of the shafts out of the pots, can this be fixed, or are new pots needed?? i never had this problem before as i was using proper jazz bass style ones, however i thought id see what this type looked like,

im actually gutted coudl anyone hlelp me???

    thanks

  6. afraid not mate...its just a copy by shine, very good though i can get a very near exact replica of macca's sound on it...

while im talking about my basses, the other day i took my jazz apart to clean, maintain setup e.t.c. and i broke two of the shafts out of the pots, is it possible to fix them back into the pots, or will i have to get new ones???

  7. 1981 jaydee roadie series 2 body shape, in cherry red with full actives, beautiful bass sounds perfect...

2002 squier jazz bass, sunburst doesnt look it, but has been played hard..for example has cuts in the pickups and neck/frets where ive been slapping it, i fitted the schaller straplocks, fender control knobs, and pickup cover, what do you guys think???

  9. my mint ashdown electric blue 180 is for sale....

absolutely perfect condition hardly used, bought it about 18 months ago, and hardly play with it any more, as i go straight through my pedal into headphones...

this is really a great little amp, and performs perfectly to all styles of music, i play everything from funk(mark king who uses ashdown, stanley clarke), to rock (genesis, the beatles), reggae, its just great

    heres what ashdown says:

Ashdown Electric Blue bass amplification loads legendary Ashdown tone into an affordable new amp head and a pair of high-performance, high-value combos.

The EB 12-180 1 x 12" combo uses a 180 Watts RMS fan-cooled fast-transient power stage, and a fully-featured bass preamplifier with inputs for both active and passive instruments, an illumunated VU meter, 5 band EQ with Bright and Deep switches, a front panel-mounted balanced DI output for connection to a PA or recording console, an FX loop, a tuner/line output and the classic Ashdown sub-harmonic generator.

Consistent with its EVO II status, the combo also includes a built-in compressor to provide an exceptional level of sonic control for a bass amp of this size and cost.

A high-performance Ashdown BlueLine bass driver ensures exceptional attack, clarity and low-end performance, while an extension speaker output can be used to connect an additional cabinet for use in larger venues. The cabinet is finished in a tough, scuff-proof carpet covering with protective corners and a kick-proof metal grille.
